True story. Paul Newman said he quit signing autographs forever when a guy had the nerve and asked him for one in the men's restroom as he was peeing. He said...that's it, never another. Can't blame him. 💯
Yeah, me too. Those were probably interesting times in baseball. It was a time when the Dodgers and Giants were still in the New York area, and most teams were still located on the eastern seaboard and the midwest.
The defending World Champion Dodgers beat the Yankees in the opener of the World Series that day, 6-3. They also won the next day but the Yankees then won 4 of 5, including Don Larson's perfect game, to take back the championship.
Do you remember who was the catcher for Don Larson that unforgettable day???? At the end of the game he ran and jumped into Don's arms!!! Yogi Berra!!!!!!!!:-):-):-):-):-):-)
October 3, 1956, Opening Day of the World Series, Ebbets Field, Dodgers 🤑 beat Yankees 😒 However, not in the cards for Dem Dodger Bums, as the Yankees, highlighted by a Don Larsen perfect game in Game Five, would come back from a 0-2 series deficit to capture the crown in seven games. Larsen would also capture the MVP award and Yogi Berra 🥰 would hit .360, smack three home runs and knock in ten runs to help the Yankees win their 17th World Series title. 🤗🌟💕 Also, the #1 song that week was Elvis Presley's Don't Be Cruel. 🌟1956 a great year🌟
So rude blowing smoke around guests. Too bad they didn’t accept how dangerous smoking was back then. Garry was a lot of fun, he just was a rude smoker.
A cigarette brand was the main sponsor of the show at the time, so host Garry Moore pretty much had to. His smoking would eventually contribute to his death. Also, it's just too bad that it took until the early 70s for a law to be passed that prohibited advertising of tobacco products.
The man, Paul Newman, believes his own press. The show has seconds to devote to this little story of people buying his food before he can get to Henry. Paul thinks he’s sooo charming that anything he says is soooo entertaining. Hence, he slowly drones on and on and on when2 sentences would have covered it. Gary and the panel fake laugh to cover for him and the dead air. Paul takes no notice of the flatness of his story. Hebert finally even tried, unsuccessfully, to cut him off. I can only imagine what a huge bore he must be at gatherings MR ME ME ME !! The real Paul Newman!
Most Americans smoked at that time. It was unusual to find an American who didn't smoke. It was promoted by the doctors during that era as beneficial for people's health. Turned out it came out in the 1970's that cigarette companies were paying doctor's and the American Medical Association bribes under the table to promote their products to the people and to patients. Why do you think cigarette companies were just about sued into oblivion over the last 45 years? Why do you think there aren't any cigarette commercials on TV anymore?
One of the newer Hollywood stars - and certainly one of the most handsome, not to mention philanthropic.
This stuff is hilarious! Wish they had good, clean fun on TV like this again.
I'd settle for any kind of fun.
Besides "To Tell The Truth" (already done) this is probably the best panel show from that era that could be redone.
Prohibited by Political Correctness.
@@Wiley_Coyote Say WHAT? You haven't watched What's My Line, have you? WML beats every other game show by miles, hands down.
What a great sport Newman was!
Could you imagine any "star"doing that today??
How great to see Paul Newman being such a good sport. A rare opportunity for a TV audience, now an imossibility.
Paul Newman was a wonderful man and a riot !!! :) RIP Paul :)
And so began Paul Newman's food enterprise empire...
The smile that launched a million swoons.
Great one. Love Newman! Great actor.

The great Paul Newman
Paul Newman was so handsome here. I can't imagine seeing him out in public. Nobody at the baseball game recognized him, though.
$26.00 of merchandise in half an hour? Today that is one hot dog and a beer... 30 seconds.
Ummmm no. It's equal to $305.00 today (2024)

You surely know your baseball history...sadly the Dodgers would be gone to LA after the 57 season, and Brooklyn has never been quite the same since.

This was too funny😂😂😂
Garry smokin it up!!!
TWENTY CENTS for a hot dog??? I was born way too late...
I remember a coke and a dog for 25 cents.
Mr. Newman always known for his sense of humor and practical jokes. But can't get over the cigarettes.
A tobacco company was the sponsor for this show at the time. Advertising for those kind of products on TV didn't stop until the start of 1971.
Newman..such a class act. Wonderful speaking voice and handsome. Lol....Gary Moore smoking on the program.
How special, this was funny 😆
I had just turned 3 years old .
Paul Newman was so handsome.
What s good spirt. Hes just an unpretentious man.
Look that they are smoking and that the departing gift is a carton of Winston cigarettes.
He also gives away the answer
hot dog + beer = $15 now
They had hints
Newman(Neumann?) would pick up his sister from school. Once a nun asked about his line of work. She was new there.
A presentator who smokes on air!
As the host lights up a cigarette, which then eventually kills him. Thank you cigarette companies.
Throat cancer.
good tv
It will affect him later when he craps it out. LOL

Oh oh. The smoking police are here. Lock the doors!

Paul Newman very cute and Handsome

Put the effing cigarettes down, for crying out loud.
I guess it was more common back then. Also, a cigarette company did sponsor the show at the time.
Although an avid smoker on or off the air, Garry was likely required by the sponsor to smoke its product during the show.
