Awesome! Congratulation! 😊
My biggest rant right now with UA-cam Content creators is clickbait titles and videos that tell you how to grow your channel or how to gain views, etc. Then when you go into the video, they always bring up a channel, not theirs to show how much money the channel is making. Social Blade does not indicate if the channel is truly monetized or if the content creator is actually making any money. I have called out content creators for misleading titles and information. I've challenged them to use their said techniques to create their own channel and film it all when they get monetized without using their current channel to drum up support. I really hate when there are no factual supporting sources or evidence and it's all based on speculation. There are too many of those clickbait channels that it has gotten out of hand and in my opinion, UA-cam should start delisting those types of content.
You sound like a narcissistic person always trying to take people down
Maybe if you put more though into your life you’d be doing much better than you are
Who has time to sit and just videos of how to make money on you tube?
There’s better ways to make money lol

im a small automotive channel and i just cracked 100 subs thanks to you guys! Thanks for all the advice!
ouu i love me a good car channel, ill sub
Congrats! 🎉
I just started my channel. Slow growth, but growth nonetheless.
Good luck everyone
At this point, I don't know what I'm doing right or wrong. I've worked on my intros, titles, thumbnails and heavy editing. Although nothing seems to work. Nonetheless, this was yet another insightful video. The intro was a banger. Thank you Rob. 🙏
UA-cam is adamant that my channel will be a guinea fowl channel only and I am adamant that I shall not succumb to that. Problem is guinea fowl breeding season is over and there are not enough guinea fowl lovers to make my channel successful. I post about ducks, 30 or less views, yet there are many duck lovers out there. I post about dogs and cats, 20 or less views, yet some pet channels get thousand of views. I rescue abandoned, sick or injured animals and then end up adopting them, hardly any views. I am a sick person, yet no interest in how I cope living with my illness, yet people with cancer channels explode.
To prove my point I posted an aweful guinea fowl video 2 days ago. Nothing of interest happens in the video. I did not go to much trouble in editing. The content is so boring that I struggled to make a thumbnail. UA-cam saw the word guinea fowl and recommends it and it has 400 views. UA-cam needs to revisit its algorhythm.

You got this! 💪💪💪
I think your thumbnails are way too busy: less is more.
I also noticed myself thinking "In this video" or "in today's video" started to feel lengthy and boring, so I say "As you saw from today's title, we're going to be - " it works much better because I can get right into the juice! Great video Rob! :)
gotta do the same i haven't figured out a good way to start a video:/
I feel like that misses the point. Yes, it's different from what other people are doing, but it's still unnecessary and costs you the most valuable 2 seconds of the video. I believe actually jumping right to the point and starting with a sentence that is similar to the title, but divulges slightly more details than the title did to get people more excited for the rest of the video
Yes, I does always use those 3 words and.
If you skip from 0:30 to 9:30 in a 10-minute UA-cam video, it will show 1 minute of watch time. UA-cam tracks watch time based on the actual time spent watching the video, rather than the video's total duration. Skipping ahead or jumping to different timestamps within the video will only count the time that was actively viewed. In this case, since you skipped from 0:30 to 9:30, you effectively watched only 1 minute of the video, and that's what will be reflected in the watch time statistics.
I myself always have the courtesy to watch the whole entire video. I don't know why people decide to skip videos.
@@Asian86 It's great that you have a courtesy to watch the whole video. Different people have various reasons for deciding to skip a video or not watch it in its entirety. Here are some common reasons why people might skip or not finish watching a video:
1. Time constraints: Many people lead busy lives, and they might not have enough time to watch long videos. In such cases, they might skip or fast-forward through parts of the video to get to the essential information.
2. Lack of interest: If the video's content doesn't capture someone's interest or isn't relevant to them, they might decide to skip it and look for something more engaging or informative.
3. Familiarity with the topic: If someone is already well-versed in the subject matter of the video, they might skip through portions they are already familiar with, focusing only on the new or more critical information.
4. Video quality: Sometimes, low production quality or poor presentation can lead viewers to lose interest and skip the video.
5. Advertisement or filler content: If a video contains excessive ads or filler content without providing much value, viewers might skip it to avoid wasting time.
6. Multi-tasking: Some people watch videos while doing other tasks, so they might skip through less relevant parts to concentrate on what they need.
7. Technical issues: If there are problems with the video's playback, buffering, or audio, viewers might skip or abandon it altogether.
8. Personal preferences: People have different learning styles and preferences for consuming information. Some might prefer reading over watching videos, while others might prefer shorter video formats.
Remember that everyone has their own preferences and reasons for consuming content in a particular way. It's essential to respect those differences and cater to various learning styles when creating and sharing content.
@DanielLaurencin So you saying me doing live video on telling people the reason I starting posting video on my channel is moved Philippines too record video of my country is not something interesting too people? Seen many people posting video about our country getting views and subscribe is harder than thought maybe it be waste doing video if can't get anyone interesting I did live video show real but thanks for your input.
I hope I don’t sound like the bad guy here, but I’m seeing so many comments, and something small creators need to do is stop feeling bad for yourself. If you want this so bad, or as bad as you claim to, you wouldn’t waste your time and energy feeling bad for yourself. Take in this amazingly useful content, and keep grinding. Stop looking at your views. Stop caring so much. If you just want to make money and be a UA-camr, you’re never going to make it. If you see this as a hobby and just grind out videos, and learn, you’re much more likely to find success. But seriously, stop trying to make others feel bad for you. Most people here are in a similar situation as you. Do something about it.
I know what my problem is: to honest and too reserved, other people call it boring.
It translates into both my thumbnails and title. A good thumbnail creates impressions and a good title creates views..
A good hook creates longer views and quality content creates returning viewers.
Just subbed to help you out :) I'd recommend you improve your thumbails by using interesting fonts, interesting images, and good colors so people can read the words.
No. I watched a video on a channel from Kenya where the guy brushed his teeth without toothpaste or water for the first 5 minutes of the video and then repeated 5 times that now it is time for a different activity. I think his channel is 3 months old. It exploded. He is getting money donations and building toilets and what not already. Luck of the UA-cam draw.
@@monttech that’s nice, thank you. I’m currently editing on my phone, so until I switch to a computer I don’t think my thumbnails are going to improve much. Hopefully in a few weeks.
Its just so F ked up i do all my UA-cam Shorts on my laptop amd i cant edit any Thumbnails which in return has hurt my little channel as is already..... P.S. Forgot to say this so i cant edit any Thumbnails due to Labtop so i guess maybe i should make edit the basics on my labtop then Manually download it to my Crappy State phone and then Edit it from my Cell phone since thats the only way to do anything with a Thumbnail Edit for Shorts anymore... 💔
UA-cam considers the actual time spent watching a video as a metric. Therefore, let's consider an example: if a video is 2 minutes long and you watch the entire video at 0.25x speed, the watch time will be calculated as 8 minutes. Similarly, if you watch the video at 2x speed, the watch time will be reduced to 1 minute.
I always start with a "setting the scene" type of dramatic writing, usually from the near the end of the eventual story. I paint the scene in words with a very short passage and then get pretty much straight in there.
ive never started a video with those three words, at most if I'm doing a tutorial ill say something like I'm gonna teach yall this with the least amount of words possible and immediately get started on the tutorial. and if its a playthrough style in a sim rpg like stardew valley or ranch sim where its a continuous story line and i might say what the plan for today is real quick while getting straight to the playing. most of these tips in this video doesn't apply to gaming channels unless its a cinematic style like neebs gaming. i every once in a while do these style of videos but they are too complicated to record and edit on my own. and tend to take several days to produce. thank yall for yalls awesome tips they do help alot
Omg yes! "Just DO IT! Don't tell me you're going to... just DO IT!" It really bends me out of shape fr lol
I don't do the "in this video" intro but I have done the "Today I'm going to show you (blank)" before and recently I've done "if you want to (achieve goal), then here are three ways to go about doing that" Great video as always, guys.
LOL! I am laughing... as I am literally in the middle of editing a video where I start in part of my intro "in this video"....😂 I thank you for this. So many of your points made so much sense to me, I was like wow he is right! I never thought of it this way before. I am going to give your advice a try and cut that out of my intro for this video and see how my retention rate goes! YOU are awesome , my friend. Thank you as always 😁
lol, sometimes it happens 😜
This works excellently with storytelling. I find myself compelled to watch a video if I am hooked in the first 1 minute. Thumbnails are also great too!
Editing my old blog posts of 200+ videos... I have a lot of blog posts starting with "In today's video" :D Well, actually, all of them LOL
This is not the worst. The worst is when they say This video's sponsor is... They will lose viewers.
Haha we love a UA-cam rant and quiz! Intros are the worst, I feel like I struggle with them every time...but they're definitely getting better according to my analytics! I'll never say those 3 words ever again. 😂 Keep pushing, guys - WE GOT THIS! 😊
You got this!
I say in this video in the description is that just as bad? Usually though, I usually start with a hook but find myself saying "today" or "so today" more than I'd like and feel like it might have a similar effect
Well it's a good thing I didn't get too far into editing a video that's going out in July!
So basically DONT REPEAT THE TITLE IN YOUR HOOK that will just bore the viewer instead jump straight in and maybe get them curious by asking a question
The main problem is that people don't usually click on videos that has low views Even if it's better than other videos that got 1m views people don't like to watch anything not popular. the only solution for that is to talk about something that no one else made video about before like new Mobile games because when thier players search UA-cam for this game they will find only your channel talking about it and they will watch your 0 views content about this game
I remember 3 years ago Rob usually makes this kind of mistakes 😅. Good that you're teaching us. 👊
🤣🤣🤣
Not only "In this video..." but also the phrase "Hey everyone it's (whatever your name is)..." is something that even I myself have been phasing out of my videos.
lol i was thinking about the same thing a week or few ago that the "So I think you have to break through these walls" in my gameplay videos are useless. cool vid
I have a question I want to make my channel about this RTS that came out last month but the game itself isn't very popular and a lot of people hate it, does this mean I should stop making content on it or should I continue making content on it even if the game is failing???
I love the sentence "viewers who make it through the first 30 seconds are more likely to stay longer"
This cant be more true, since they already stayed longer 😂😂
That was outstanding. Especially the hook at the end to grab interest to watch the follow-up video. Thanks for being detailed and precise.
I don't think I've ever used the dreaded phrase "in this video" as the first sentence in any of my new, noteworthy releases, but I may have said it in one of my old, vastly inferior videos when I was young, stupid, and didn't know what vidIQ was. Intros are definitely the hardest part of making a video as far as "minutes of work per second" is concerned, but I find that a well-written script, good voice acting, and an animated (literally or not) presentation of what's coming up works well. Basically, make sure that *none* of the video is added fluff or extraneous, wordy tangents, and that's far more important in the intro.
I just went and checked all my videos, and the ammount of viewtime I lose just because of my intro is crazy 😂 Literally by the time I finish my intro (around 1:30) are my viewers gone... Thanks for the eye opener!
Never give up guys! All the best creators
Okay.. I'll start my videos with "in the following motionpicture"
Man you got me! I looked at all my videos and I found ONE video where I said "in this video", and one that started with "did you know" 😅
You could try getting rid of the echo by filling your shelf with plushies and pillows.
I have NEVER started a video with the three most useless words, but I am guilty of putting them in the description.
I normally also use an intro but thanks to this video I’m going to try and experiment and see what works! Remember it’s always a good idea to try new things 🙂
Never started the video with those 3 words. As a gaming content creator, I obviously have a lot to work for, but I'm extremely passionate about sharing my games that I play, no matter if they're going to pop off, or they won't pop off. I'm going to experiment with something with the upcoming series where I don't start the series on the main menu, instead of that, I will do it while playing the game. Being a Gaming related content creator is challenging since I'm bad with titles, descriptions and thumbnails, however I'm trying to improve. As your AI keeps telling me, UA-cam journey is a difficult one. Not to mention the gaming is such an oversaturated genre.
Do you personally help out channels? Is there a program i can sign up for? Ty in advance 😊
Okay then, so I get that one shouldn’t say “in this video” for the sake of more views. But what about if they have it written in the description but not actually saying those words in the actual video? I’m just wondering.
Thanks a lot VidIQ team for helping the (small) UA-cam Creators to becoming succesful. I'm almost at 100 subscribers and i'm really proud of that :D, thanks!
Time to aim for 1000!

@@vidIQ Oh yeah!

Never give up guys!!
Trying to get my click through rate up. Thumbnails with text definitely help.
It's all so logical but without these video's I'd have to come to all of it over time, great content we all can learn from. Keep up the hard work folks!
Exposition is just as boring in video form as it is in a book. "Show don't tell" is still a great principle.
Hello vid iq when i upload a youtube shorts my total views is not updated it updated automatically after a one day gap this issue persists for some few days ago and my channel reach is down please suggest me a valuable knowledge.
As i do explorations of abandoned places, my first few seconds are highlights of the explore. then straight to it. but i do see this a lot... and agree. i do the same thing. i know what the video is. i clicked it. dont need a 45 second explaination, Ad break/sponsor. before you know it. you are 4 min into a video before you get to the juice of what you clicked the video for. i end up skipping like 5min of the video on a lot of creators.
Since I'm doing a True Crime Channel, I go with a headline and my tagline. It would sound like this:
"This is the headline that my video is associated with. I'm Ernest Bethea "The Last Outlaw". This is Bethea's Byte... and it's Reloaded!"
Absolutely right. My videos do not have these words, yet no views; I am still trying to learn to employ a 'hook"!. Someday I'll get it.
I never started with "in this video". I did use a montages at the beginning though.
How do you put parts of ur video in the beginning I’m not a good editor😢😢😢
Very nice video; bonus points for how you hooked the next video flawlessly into the narration.
I don’t think I’ve ever said “In this video…” but I haven’t discovered a generic “hook” that works for a broad audience.
Never used these words , my video guy shows up whenever he gets there I am usually pissed with a smile getting work done along with him recording it , it’s all a hot mess but I enjoy watching your professional advice and I love what I do for work recording it just a bonus
As an Audio Drama / Audio Roleplay channel…. Nope, can’t say I have used those words 😅
I would love you guys to give some tips for gaming channels. Editing livestreams into short highlights or clips is hard! Hooks, story etc seem to be really hard things to apply to this type of content. Thanks!
Its like writing an essay that starts with in this essay
I've made over 800 videos and don't think I ever said it. 4 hours. Thanks for the information and advice. Was fun to watch. Great video
Thank you for watching!
800 videos pretty solid I'm building my catalog of my videos but not nearly that much I respect it
Also do this. But it's useless if the algorithm doesn’t like your channel. In my case because the algorithm keeps flagging my content for containing minors, and if that happens: end of story! This functionality is built-in to protect young children from online predators, but is in fact completely destroying my channel that does not feature young children and which is run and monitored by an adult. No matter what I do, my video's flop... Extremely frustrating!
I don't understand. I created a short and add a sound from UA-cam itself which was clam down it was 16 seconds of video. And I got a copyright claims after a week. Why did I happen I had to delete the delete and I lost my watch time. In this initial phases watch time means alot to me. Why it happened?
I can’t lie I think every content creator has done this
I actually have not. But mine are worse
I have a question for you.If you had to start a brand new channel today, how long will it take you to reach a million subscribers ???
How long will it take you to get monetized???
But so many say to hook viewers then confirm what they’re getting what’s written in the title after that. I’m so confused. I struggle here so much. 😢
Yo thanks for all the advice appreciate it
A 7 minute ad, you are the reason people hate youtube ads.
Again, we have a subject that is needed to be talked about! 🙌 I do personally like repetition in the beginning of videos. It makes me feel comfortable and I like that I can predict a bit. But that being said, I understand that in todays world you have just seconds to hook the viewer because we all have the attention span of less than a goldfish!? (unfortunately true). All I know is that my channel is always a work in progress, changing things as I learn them and I guess if I stop growing, I stop creating. So my plan is to keep on aquiring skills and knowledge...after all...isn't that what makes the world go around! Thank you again VIDIQ for being a mainstay for new knowledge for us newbies! Blessings! 💗
I have definitely been guilty of using “in this video” a number of times! I had no idea I shouldn’t have been doing that!
I appreciate you raising your hand and immediately doing the thing you're ranting about.
I struggle so much getting people to watch my videos, especially all the way thru. Unless you do full recaps, in full face makeup, or already had a big platform, then I feel like it's just hard getting seen in the movie review space. 😢😢
😢
should we add relevant keywords in our description like alot currently i do 100 relevant keywords i think maybe less....
Just don't sacrifice quality in the rest of the video for the sake of the intro. Keep creating!
I have never used those three words in my videos. I always wanted the time viewers spent with me to be more like friends droppin' in with each other havin' a conversation.
I used to have way too long of an intro though, and that wasn't doing me any favors. So, I started just diving right in to the read (I do tarot, among many other things) with an opening taste of the read. After that, I give a brief, like 30 second intro while I'm shuffling the cards.
The end result, my watch time is rapidly growing and my viewer retention is awesome. Most are sticking with me for the duration of the video. So thank you for all the support because I switched this up because of what I've learned from you guys.
Now, if only I can crack the algorithm to get more Subscribers! It's opposite for me. I got the viewing hours dialed in but need more Subscribers. I probably need to do more reminding to subscribe in my videos but I don't want to overdo it because I know that the more I hear people pushing to subscribe in videos, it's a turn off for me as a viewer. Trying to find the balance with that.
I think part of the issue is I post a lot of my links on Facebook to drive traffic to the channel but if people aren't logged into their UA-cam account, they can't subscribe. I've had a lot of people tell me that they took so long to subscribe because they needed to log into their account first. In this instant gratification world, people can avoid doing something as simple as logging into their account because it's too much of a hassle.
I wish UA-cam would find a workaround for this, like maybe require to login in order to watch what's on UA-cam as a whole.
My analytics show me about 85% of the people who view my channel are not subscribed and that has remained consistent for awhile. I know a lot of other creators have talked about this, too.
First! Thanks for all your work, I love your videos!
Yes but my channel is s tutorial channel concerning CGI... so I'd have a demo of what we're about to build and those words "in this video, we building this {insert basic description"
I like that you said the 3 dreaded words right at the 30 sec mark
Suprisingly I only did a "in this video" on a quick tierlist video but not a single video where I did a script have I had a "in this video"
This guy was probably that teacher that everyone wanted to register to be in his class. His class was probably always booked. This assumes he was a college professor. He has a real way with teaching others!
Also try watching some of the why files content as it's a good channel that does really good hooks and theatre of the mind. I find theatre of the mind really does work well.
I don't ever start my videos with "in this video" because I always start it with a cold open and a funny moment from my stream lol
I've not used the phrase "In this video" in my videos although I think I've had some early drafts of scripts that did. I do have intros that have a summary of what I'll be covering, but I try to make it a bit more organic to the video as a whole.
I have not used it either. Not yet. 😀
Nope I never started a video with "in this video" because I only have 1 video because I'm a shorts creator
I don't know what's. The problem with my channel I'm putting a lot of effort but no result, from thumbnails, to titles, to content..
I have never ever started the video with "in this video"
I have surpassed 1k subscribers thanks for your tips 🙏 now I have started using hook words and it’s working for me
This info is a game-changer. Opens up an entire extra field of creativity. Thank you VidIq
I did it it once , because I thought it was a requirement along with a duck face thumbnail. I used that only once as well. I'm old school enough and listen to people talk in real life enough to filter this phrase into nonexistence.but it's a minor point at best. I'm quite sure there were talking you tube improvement heads that probably insisted you start like this because it implies you are getting right to the meat. You tube at a superficial level is amazingly redundant, so what's a bit more?
I'm building the biggest Starship Enterprise model in the world, I'm pretty brutal with my editing and ALWAYS keep focus that the videos are not about me but about the quality of content I can deliver to my audience. My latest video went to over 3000 views in half a day and brought in 65 new subscribers. Consistency is another massive factor. Keep going!!!
I was creating a preview of a few seconds at the beginning of my videos with the words "in this video". OK I will change it to preview or something
What do you say about using stuff for quotes channel?
i watch videos at x2 speed ALWAYS... what does that mean???
I don't say anything, I just start recording and get on with it! Rob, will AI coach come to android if anyone does not have a pc in the google play store?
You may hate those three words. As much as I hate reading titles that say here's how to help small channels grow and all they talk about is thumbnails and titles. Then directing you to another video that talks about thumbnails and titles.
Thanks for the reminder. :) I make tutorials and have ended up starting them with Hi Folks, in this video....quite a bit recently! Tine to try something a bit different for the next one. :)
Hi. Why doesnt some videos get picked in the algorithm even though we do all the right things... can internet connection have an affect or isit when a previous video is being pushed out that a new one won't go through
I can guarantee you don't do all the right things
Then what is the problem... could it be using a different Internet connection. Cuz thr videos are not much different with the one that do get picked by the algorithm
Or you could just pay them. That’s right, youtube is now pay to play. They want you to create the content, edit it, make it kid friendly because there’s no UA-cam for kids and (and UA-cam wants everyone to be a Ned Flanders) then pay them. If you don’t understand, look at your revenue page. If you’re not monetized ask someone who is to tell you what it says. If you pay them a monthly fee, they will promote your content.
One thing I realised with video is that UA-cam won't promote our video when we send more than 1 video er week...
@@rosealine6143 Any difference will yield different results. Trust me, you aren't doing all the right things.
Can't have said it better! This is the best video I've watched! Becoming a full time UA-camr isn't easy however it's something I enjoy and will carry on with my goals and will become successful from it🙏🏾
My average 30 seconds tends to have 50ish percent retention. I tend to average 2 mins 30ish seconds of watch time. I have noticed my average watch hours does go up when I use chapters and I get less spikes and dips and more top moments
Your videos are keeping me motivated man my videos of this week are going super down compared to the week i started don't know what i am doing wrong though
6:47 I guess the same thing can be applied here in the end of every vídeo "this video" is used most of the time. I will do my best to use the information you provided to us 'in this vídeo' 🎉😂
@@PerryThePlatypus2145 Correct!
Haven’t it used it yet, but our videos are pretty much garbage without it.
