The truly fabulous sound of the Shadows... what an incredible band they were!
Great atmosphere! The solo is what Hank wanted on the record, he was unhappy with the one we all know! The guitar sounds incredible as do the group. Never equalled.
I loved the solo on the recorded version! I believe that this solo is consistent with his later style (when he started to use the neck pickup and then the Burns)!
@@bernhardnizynski4403 Got to agree the recorded solo version for me is the best.
@@danharrow7458
Tout à fait d'accord.
@@alainquinzelaire1253 merci
Heck, yeah. Almost a surf sound from this band. Superb. Relaxing.
Wow. This is SO much better than the studio version. Hank’s solo rips and the snare fills at the end have so much more power. In the studio version he seemed to have been holding back.
What fantastic drumming complementing the guitars. Tony at his best.
Always preferred Tony Meehan and Jet Harris, the original line up recorded some great stuff. Tony was a fantastic drummer.
@@danharrow7458 both Jet and Tony were excellent musicians-Tony was a talented and inventive drummer, very technical("see you in my drums" track is good ex) while,as Bruce Welch stated "Jet is a better musician than I,ll ever be' showing his skills on both 4 and 6 string Bass( Main title theme,Diamonds, etc)
Sadly, much of the music was "flattered out" during the production process. This version of The Savage is how we could have - should have heard the tune. What is done can not be undone, however The Savage as mixed here is a belated thrill. It took a long time to get here, but now it has arrived there is a lot of listening pleasure ahead. Big thanks for posting.
This is one of my favorite Shadows tunes to play.
blimey can actually hear Bruce
Good version, has a more "wild agressive " feel to it than the rec version, the band seem to be really going for broke thanks for posting this version
Vous trouvez ? C'est un désastre à côté de la version studio ! Vite, il faudrait de la vraie musique dans les oreilles des gens !
Superb Bass and Rhythm Guitar..Hank, well, ditto.
This kind of music can even make a corpse come out of it's grave!
Extraordinario!!!!
Amazing!
For those days heavy man!
The middle eight is not the same as on the record. The original is very tricky to get right. It took me ages to get the middle eight ok to do live. This music will never die.
WOUAH! BIG SOUND ON STAGE!
Super nagranie.Wspaniała solówka
apart from hank losing his way 1/2 way though that was awesum thanks for posting
Must have Knackered Bruce playing that fast
Great !
Super
Used to be called the Witch Doctor.
I think this is really the analog sound of the 60s and played straight without any weird effects, plus I think the sound is total Burns.-
People this is my grandad its true
Are you sure these [sound] are the Shadows? ... or how do you know it?
Encore à ce jour, ils sont au dessus du lot...
What about the last bit with the fantastic finishing echo exit
Il est toujours meilleur que ce direct !
itt még Jet Harris is itt volt.
Funny the statements that Bruce Welch or Cliff Richard were superfluous. Welch's rhythm merges with Meehan on most records, especially because he used acoustic guitar, so his rhythms and Tony's mixed. As for Cliff...the top singer in Europe was nobody's hanger-on. Most of us used the phrase "Cliff Richard and the Shadows" for good reason.
@UA-camINCLUSIVITYWHATAJOKE Amen to all of that! So many records from the Shadows, or Cliff and the Shadows, have that mixture of acoustic and drums. We'd already heard how acoustic guitar added extra life to those Everly Brothers and Ricky Nelson records, hey? The Everlys' J200s on Claudette and Problems and the other Cadence records still make me smile. And the acoustic under Burton's electric kept Ricky's records moving (plus the unrecognized piano, as usual). But when I heard Bruce and Tony mixed together, man, that was it. How about "The Stranger" or "Lessons In Love" or "WonderfulLand" ...it goes on and on, doesn't it. And we got to hear all that.
No Bruce Welch, no The Shads.
@@tigeri9384 amen!! Also, I Think Norrie Paramor had a lot to do with the merging of Bruce’s acoustic rhythm guitar and Tony Meehan‘s drumming. Those records from 1960 to 1962 are impeccable.

Definitely Tony on this - superb, hence well before those Shitty Burns guitars. What a shame they haven't allowed official release of this version - not perfect, but what the hell, it has more feel than the single or film versions.
I bought a Shadows compilation the other day and whenever I hear this song I think of this song: ua-cam.com/video/-R96oxrDHWs/v-deo.html It's a really slow version.
This sounds like it was played on the Burns! Definitely played on the Neck pickup - not the Bridge pickup as on the original.
Bernhard Nizynski it was always played on the bridge pickup and it's a Strat on there.
It was bridge throughout, as Dave says, but the strat does very sound weird. Must be the recording device.
@@nigelduckworth406 - sorry Nigel - I got it wrong way around - I meant to say sounded like it was played on the neck pickup instead of the Bridge - as per original!
@@bernhardnizynski4403 Thanks. I often make the same mistake myself..
@@nigelduckworth406 - yes, I knew the correct answer, just expressed it the wrong way around. I used to play all the Shadows stuff in the early 1960s (1963 on) so I generally y know which pickup Hank played each tune! My friend, Dennis Flynn lent me his Stratocaster in 1963 (the first Fender in Canberra) and I bought one of the first Burns Black Bison's in Australia in 1964!.

Not rare. The picture does not fit the tune. Check out the young one's video from the movie. Cliff does nit fit in with instrumentals at all.
What did Welch & Richard contribute to this fantastic track. Awesome without them. Surplus to requirements.
@UA-camINCLUSIVITYWHATAJOKE Bruce Welchs' rhythm playing on this is excellent. To be able to play at that speed and not miss a beat takes some doing.
Stupid remark. CR was not involved but Bruce Welch is fundamental to everything The Shadows do.
Why is Richard shown in this clip. He was totally superfluous to The Shadows. No talent of his own, just a hanger on. No-one nor nothing beats THE ORIGINAL SHADOWS.
Ignorant comment and an irrelevant comparison. The Shadows emerged from The Drifters who were formed around Cliff Richard - if not for Cliff, the Shadows would never have existed. Cliff had 14 No. 1 UK hits and The Shadows around 5 I think. They complemented each other. Cliff is still going strong after 60 years in the biz- excellent achievement for a no-talent hanger-on don't you think?
