I definitely have to stand by this statement, most particularly for the map sprites used for the Zomboss arenas. I have to give credit to Big Wave Beach's Zomboss arena in particular. What with it being a giant mechanical octopus with a glass dome for a head featuring an entire underwater city built in there, meanwhile each metal arm of the octobot held a zombie themed armament such as tanks and warships. And let's not forget the platform the octobot was standing on was surrounded by lava! ...Though, I kind of understand why PopCap decided to not make these arena sprites as intricate moving forward, considering I, and I assume many others were more than a little let down when they see the arena sprite for Big Wave Beach be as grandiose as it is...only for the actual BOSS FIGHT to just be a robot shark...yippee... Even if so, I still would have loved to have seen what kind of arena sprites future worlds could have given us. Frostbite Caves' arena was pretty lackluster, and when Lost City released, they didn't even try. I was made a very sad Lemon that day... But it just feels wrong removing the previous detailed arenas and replacing them with just a generic volcano. That just feels like a slap in the face to the artists who poured their heart and soul into designing these.
@@iaminsideyourwalls2021 very true but the thing is its not as good as it should be...... yes its not THAT BAD of a game but its both EA and also POPCAPs fault alot of people say its EA's fault but actually popcap is also in the wrong for letting it happen but yeah althought it definitely improved and add things like more world, more plants,more bundles but of course using real money ,more ads, more premium plant,even MORE ADS,more glithest and of course more ads its not a masterpiece but as a sequel its ok, the original pvz is definitely better tho
The broken Spring Bean and Blover may be gone, but its spirit lives on on other plants, Primal Peashooter, Chard Guard, and Reinforce-mint are the ones that can combo with Blover.
I miss the old boss stage designs for the worlds themselves. They were larger, had animations, and most of them felt quite menacing. Now, they only appear in the background of the Penny’s pursuit maps.
The weird thing for me they removed the Gargantuar pirate old voice it used to have a unique voice to reflect that he's a big bad pirate apparently it was removed for some reason?
Honestly, over half of them I would like them back, the only ones I'm "glad" were removed would be Power Pinch and Blover/Spring Bean combo, the others had very few reasons to be removed.

Power pinch was actually the cheapest power-up (800 for power pinch, 1200 for power flick and 1000 for power zap.) You probably thought it was the nost expensive because the replacement power up for it (power snow) is the most expensive power up excluding power flame for frostbite caves. They also made all power ups cheaper in an update for some reason. Power pinch still sucked though I think star gates and star difficulty on levels was just a better version of dynamic difficulty. Rebeating levels at a harder difficulty but mostly optional and there were optional plants to collect that you didn't have to. Wait, GEM DROPS WERE REMOVED? I think they should just put all expansions as quests at the same time rather than limiting it to 2 weeks and allowing you to replay them afterwards by adding the levels to the map after you beat it. (Yes I know that's possible as mods make quest levels go on the map after you beat them) My favourite travel log was the look that happened in the levelling update, hate the current oversimplified one (still same gameplay wise just uglier,) found the old one eh. Also levelling plants sucks as an update and nearly every seedium from arena is busted and also sucks as arena could have been a good way to find unique strategies that are more than just barely good enough. Unfortunately time limit means stalling strategies are gone but y'know it is what it is. Also COMMUNITY POSTS ARE STILL NOT ON TABLET. UA-cam YOU SAID THEY ARE ON THERE WAY AND IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS. PLEASE ADD THEM

Something I completely forgot about and seems that you did or you didn't think it was that huge was that Relugar Cowboy zombies needed to get their hats removed before becoming a proper basic zombie. The hat took 2 peashooter peas(?)
I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure that was just a visual degrade, they still took 10 peashooter hits despite the almanac listing their health as 'Solid'.
When the game first got released the map designs were waaaaay different You could take different paths and for some levels you required to spend some keys to unlock the way, for example I think the level that unlocked the Bloomerang was behind a gate that required 2 or 3 keys, but very quickly they changed it to the linear design that we have today
Honestly, i never saw anybody confirm the 'removal of ultimate music' being too big for the game till now, or even acknowledge any of these changes. Glad finally someone spoke about them. I remember downloading the og game on my moms phone during christmas, all 3 worlds, the treasure yeti with the bunch load of coins in that lunchbox, mummy memory matching with the little flower put blue thing and then the harder one with the green clover. The ultimate music, the slower introductions to cabbagepult and bloomerang boyo. Hell, even when they would release half of the levels up to the gargantuar level like for Mixtape Tour or Frostbite Caves, with a construction hat imp. And those expanded levels with faster zombie types and the more stronger zombie enemy. The pyramid heads, heavy bucket heads, minecart zombies, plasma cube zombie, amber zombie, and brickhead zombie, since they skipped over dark ages, mixtape, frostbite caves, lost city. And those horrible harder zomboss fights. Aaah...good times Good good times i miss alot.
I really enjoyed Inzanity back in the day. I loved seeing unique levels that came outside the box that is beyond the levels in the worlds. The inclusion of veteran zombies are also challenging and with set of objectives to achieve, I really loved playing that type of quest.
I think stars should come back, but in a way where it doesn’t impact the players progression. I’d imagine there would be specific star thresholds that, when met, would acquire the player a special costume or something along the lines of that. PopCap could also do it in the form of a new, more challenging campaign, where the stars DO actually matter for progressing. I like the former idea more as it encourages replaying older levels, but with twists that make them more interesting. But unfortunately I can only dream of such a feature.
Blover + Spring Bean was cheesy and extremely annoying in arena. Dynamic difficulty was basically worthless. Power pinch was genuinely terrible and a waste of coins, which were also a lot harder to get back then. Premium power ups were another incentive to spend money to gain an advantage. The stars system was just annoying in that it forced you to replay levels if you made mistakes.
Power Pinch was goated. It was the cheapest power up and could kill the most zombies if you're fast enough. You can pinch multiple zombies with one pinching motion and it's personally the funnest power up for me, I still miss it to this day to be honest. Powet Zap used to be the most expensive power up which made it the worst since you can kill 1 buckethead zombie at best with the amount of time it gives you per use.
Just for context though, I first played PvZ 2 on a tablet back in 2013 or something, which probably made pinching easier. For phones I can kinda get why people would have a problem with the pinching motion.
For me, it's a glitch that kicks me out of the level before it shows me the day tracker, so I can play the level an infinite number of times and get rewards every time (as long as I don't screw it up), and I don't have to spend a penny.
I recently had to restart my PVZ account for God knows why. Apparently I kept some of my premiums but other than that I had to completely restart and the fact that I wasn't allowed to skip the tutorial just feels like a massive middle finger from pop cap

Ah man thinking about the old Map with the stars, The old map and the star gates, with the brain busters in their own dedicated sections brought me back, different times back then. Sure I think the way they changed it later on makes more sense, but it was still a neat idea
So I started re-playing the game after a very long while (years without playing it). There are so many changes, and one thing that confuses me is: Where are the costumes? I don't see them anywhere... Not in pinatas, not in the store... How do you get them? Or are they just... gone?
If they added the star mechanic back, they could make the last star level really hard and you need x star number to get a paid or else a world theme plant. Like two per world. It would be cool I guess.
The stars were cool, but also very annoying. It’s weird. So, they were really cool because they forced you to revise your strategies for the level you’ve already played, giving the level a fun twist. It’s really cool going back into these older levels with newer plants to come up with unique strategies! One of my favorite parts about PvZ is going back with all of these new tools to see what I can do now to these old zombies that I couldn’t before! Today, there is no replayablity incentive for these older levels, which is very lame. However, the stars were annoying because they made the game take a lot more longer, especially when they were required to progress, slowing the game’s pace! I mean, at least you got to choose the levels you could do, giving you some freedom, but it really is this pace breaker when it’s required. Furthermore, some of the easiest levels in the world are very boring to replay three times. There isn’t any real challenge in the challenges in the first few stages in the world. It’s mostly a waste of time. Also, some challenges were repetitive and we saw the same challenges over and over again. Finally, since each level had there challenge variations, many times it was possible to beat the different variations with the exact same strategies. It didn’t happen all of the time, but enough as to where this is a problem. Personally, I’d maybe keep SOME stars, maybe not for easier levels, add more challenge types, remove some levels, and address my issues, making for a more refined experience. Maybe the stars can unlock after beating the adventure mode as a challenge mode, like how PvZ1 had a challenge mode!
7:56 thanks god its gone, when I was younger I used the only one I had to open... big wave beach. No I hate it. But when we are talking about hard levels (expansion of worlds) I was sad when this get reemoved.
I remember when Squash, Jalapeño, Hypno-Shroom and Pea-nut used to cost $2.99 for me, but now, each one of them costs 100 gems, sadly, Snow Pea, Torchwood, Imitater, and Power lily remain being cost real money, each of one them are $4.99 for me, back in the day, each one was $3.99 for me.
I still own the first version of Plants Vs Zombies 2 and it’s an entirely different experience altogether! I actually prefer it over the current version in many ways because it’s not nearly as obnoxious with it’s extra features that I never really liked and its horrid monetization.

i did in fact get to play the mummy memory mini game one my phone when i was younger, that was back when you got all the world's keys after defeating day 8 or 6, don't remember which day it was tho.
the removal of the multiple profiles system led me to deleting my save that had completed the game and had multiple premium plants in it, never got it back, so I just don’t play the game anymore
when me and my brother got this game was when the older key system existed and basically we we used our world keys on lost city, neon mixtape tour, and after barley being able to get to the garganuar level in lost city we decided it was a good idea to use it on Big WAVE BEACH and even worse we were planing to get jurassic marsh next we were stupid as shit
you forgot the most important feature that got removed: actually requiering skill to beat the game. (this got removed in the same update they added plant levels)

So I started re-playing the game after a very long while (years without playing it). There are so many changes, and one thing that confuses me is: Where are the costumes? I don't see them anywhere... Not in pinatas, not in the store... How do you get them? Or are they just... gone?
In the most recent update I've also been unable to see costumes in the store, so I'm not sure, but they definitely still exist

I’m pretty sure the premium upgrades still exist, but they only come in limited time bundles now.

If they added the star mechanic back, they could make the last star level really hard and you need x star number to get a paid or else a world theme plant. Like two per world. It would be cool I guess.

The stars were cool, but also very annoying. It’s weird.
So, they were really cool because they forced you to revise your strategies for the level you’ve already played, giving the level a fun twist. It’s really cool going back into these older levels with newer plants to come up with unique strategies! One of my favorite parts about PvZ is going back with all of these new tools to see what I can do now to these old zombies that I couldn’t before! Today, there is no replayablity incentive for these older levels, which is very lame.
However, the stars were annoying because they made the game take a lot more longer, especially when they were required to progress, slowing the game’s pace! I mean, at least you got to choose the levels you could do, giving you some freedom, but it really is this pace breaker when it’s required. Furthermore, some of the easiest levels in the world are very boring to replay three times. There isn’t any real challenge in the challenges in the first few stages in the world. It’s mostly a waste of time. Also, some challenges were repetitive and we saw the same challenges over and over again. Finally, since each level had there challenge variations, many times it was possible to beat the different variations with the exact same strategies. It didn’t happen all of the time, but enough as to where this is a problem.
Personally, I’d maybe keep SOME stars, maybe not for easier levels, add more challenge types, remove some levels, and address my issues, making for a more refined experience. Maybe the stars can unlock after beating the adventure mode as a challenge mode, like how PvZ1 had a challenge mode!
I don’t think you covered the removal of the premium piñata’s for replaying world levels.

7:56 thanks god its gone, when I was younger I used the only one I had to open... big wave beach. No I hate it. But when we are talking about hard levels (expansion of worlds) I was sad when this get reemoved.
I remember when Squash, Jalapeño, Hypno-Shroom and Pea-nut used to cost $2.99 for me, but now, each one of them costs 100 gems, sadly, Snow Pea, Torchwood, Imitater, and Power lily remain being cost real money, each of one them are $4.99 for me, back in the day, each one was $3.99 for me.
I still own the first version of Plants Vs Zombies 2 and it’s an entirely different experience altogether! I actually prefer it over the current version in many ways because it’s not nearly as obnoxious with it’s extra features that I never really liked and its horrid monetization.

i did in fact get to play the mummy memory mini game one my phone when i was younger, that was back when you got all the world's keys after defeating day 8 or 6, don't remember which day it was tho.

the removal of the multiple profiles system led me to deleting my save that had completed the game and had multiple premium plants in it, never got it back, so I just don’t play the game anymore
when me and my brother got this game was when the older key system existed and basically we we used our world keys on lost city, neon mixtape tour, and after barley being able to get to the garganuar level in lost city we decided it was a good idea to use it on Big WAVE BEACH and even worse we were planing to get jurassic marsh next we were stupid as shit
you forgot the most important feature that got removed: actually requiering skill to beat the game. (this got removed in the same update they added plant levels)
I wish they kept multiple save files and the one key on level 16 gimmicks. Having you play half of a world if you want to go somewhere else seems like the best iteration to me.
What happened after the update. On my dads old iPad I unlocked all worlds after playing like halfway. Do you lose progress or plants or what happens

tbh when it came to Spring Bean, i pretty much only used that thing in Pirate Seas and no where else cause even I saw how terrible it was in general
