I’d consider “puhutko sinä suomea?” As formal Finnish. Nobody would ever use the real formal way “Puhutteko te suomea?”, unless they’re speaking to the president! Informal would be “puhuks suomee?”, or similar, depending on the dialect.

I especially enjoyed this, because out of no discernible reason I suddenly felt the urge to search for "how to speak Finnish" on google, only to land here and realize that my name (plus the accents, but still) means "you" in Finnish. I've never searched for random things on a whim and found my name in what I found before.

Yes very hard to pronounce for native english speakers. The pronocing is completely different. But for example for japanese people pronouncing is easier and its sound good when they try to read or speak finnish. Haha : D i have japanese friends and when they try to say something in finnish its sounds good but if my english speaker friends try to pronounce it's sound awful. Well practice practice;)

    • @tristyncoffey839

Yes, when talking with children I would always use informal Finnish. It sounds more relaxed and friendly. Usually the formal language is used when one is either in formal situations, or for example talking to older people or customers.

Have you tried italki? For learning vocabulary apps like memrise are pretty useful. Hope this helps!
However, if you have some specific question about Finnish language, feel free to ask. I'll try my best to answer it.

I am learning with "From start Finnish". It seems to a nice tutorial with comfortable pacing.
