To be honest, you need to add the fact that you needed to be born on US soil after the US declaration of independence... which obviously rules out the first 6 or 7 presidents.

Martin Van Buren was one of three US presidents in my family the other two were the two Roosevelts . All were of Dutch ancestry . My family spoke Dutch for the first 6 generations they were in America . My ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War was already a 6th generation American and he still spoke Dutch .

@@rodneysisco6364 You and I may be distant cousins. Grover Cleveland was my 3x great uncle, and I've been told he was related to Martin Van Buren, although I haven't been able to figure out how.
About 30 years ago I was doing a chain-of-title search on a property on Staten Island. The earliest entries in the docket books from the 17th century were in a mixture of Dutch and English and written in Old Dutch Script. Even though the English had taken over the colony by that point, it is clear that the clerks were still Dutch, doing the best they could with a new language.

Martin Van Buren, the 8th US President, was born in 1782, six years after the Declaration of Independance (1776). So, he was the first President who was a natural born citizen of the United States of America.

@@aLadNamedNathan Close, but the Constitution was written at the Constitutional Convention in 1787, ratified in 1788, and became the highest law of the land effective 1789. Honestly, though, I would assert that it's more important for the citizen to have a working knowledge of the constitution than it is to know specific dates.

The water "exploding" from heating it up in a microwave is true, but extremely unlikely to happen. It can happen because, unlike heating water up in the traditional way, microwaves work on all the water in the container at the same time and at the same speed. This means that no convection occurs in the water as the water heats up. Without convection, no boiling can happen so the heat gets trapped in the water and just builds up. The water can "explode" when you move the container, which creates convection in the water and allows for the instantaneous release of all the extra heat (i.e. energy) that's been storing up in the water. The explosion is basically the water boiling over all at once.
It rarely happens because, even though the microwave works this way, the container used to hold the water usually has some imperfection, a scratch or a bulge, that alters the rate of heating in the area around the imperfection to permit the water to boil. And these imperfections don't need to be large, or even perceptible to us. It's almost impossible to buy a mug, cup, glass, bowl, etc. that doesn't have them already at purchase. And even if they somehow didn't have them, they would develop them after a few regular uses of the item.
And if you're still concerned about it happening, just put a toothpick in the water while it's in the microwave. The toothpick simulates the imperfections in the container and allows for boiling to occur while the water is being microwaved.

My understand is it is more likely to happen with Distilled water since it doesn't have imperfections (additives) in the water itself. I might be wrong but I thought it was on an episode of Mythbusters.

    24. Exploding water. Yes. If you microwave purified water then there are no small particles for molecules to bounce off of. You take the water out of the microwave and it looks like it got warm, but not boiling. Then when you add your coffee, tea, sugar or whatever there becomes fine particles that bounce around and suddenly the cup of water is explosively boiling.

    19. Many animals and plants can g8ve you an indicator of what the weather will be like. If Squirrels get very fat before winter, then it'll a long, cold winter. If they are skinny, it'll be a mild winter. Some birds will leave their babies abandoned in nests so they can fly south early and that's how hurricane season can be foreseen as coming early. A certain type of bean, when split open has either a fork, knife or spoon shape found inside of it. Spoon means a lot of snow (like a shovel for snow). Knife means cold (so cold the air cuts like a knife). And the fork for a mild winter.
    18. You're close with "that's the whole family" comment. Some customs are made so that the child will have the name of family members from generations before. It's a way for them to remember their lineage. Not uncommon for them to have a lot of names just like in some cultures it's not uncommon to just have one or 2 names.

    8. Snakes can swim up your toilet. There is no flap or cap that stops the water from the bowl to the drain. It's a combination of weight and gravity that makes it flush. Look online or even at your own commode and you will see it just has an S shape.
    6. The government was so swarmed about the possibility of a zombie apocalypse f4om people that they actually drafted a plan just in case that scenario actually occurs.

The snakes in toilets thing... true. My grandparents had problems with water moccasins (highly venomous snakes) and when we'd visit the farm we were always warned, "Look in the toilet before you sit." Not only snakes in the bowl, but spiders would hide under the toilet seat, so even us girls had to lift the toilet seat to look and make sure no spiders were under there. And yes, both happened. I almost sat on a toilet with a brown recluse hidden under the rim of the toilet seat, and my brother had to shout to Grandpa about a snake in the toilet.

What happens with the water is that the container it's being heated in has few or no imperfections. That means if you bring it to a boil in the microwave, it won't and can't bubble. So when you move the mug, you create an imperfection in the surface tension of the water and all that energy that should have been expelled over time through boiling bursts out all at once, causing an explosion. It's not at all common, but it can happen.

You can make water explode in the microwave, by sealing it in an airtight container. With an unsealed but lidded container, it can potentially knock the lid off. However, in a normal open-topped mug, it will of course just boil in the normal way. Though if the container is too close to full, it can boil over, in much the same way that a pan on the stove can do. With small quantities of water (up to a cup or so), the microwave is faster than an electric stove, because of the overhead time required to heat up the burner and pan; but in the long run, the stove can deliver significantly more heat, which should not be surprising given that it runs on twice the voltage and draws more current as well. For the same reasons, a hotpot or electric kettle is likewise faster than the stove for boiling small quantities of water but cannot keep up with the stove once it gets going.

Yes, Washington was American, by virtue of being a citizen at the time when the constitution was adopted, which is a case specifically covered by the constitution for obvious reasons. The video is wrong about this, period. Combined with age and residency, this constitutional citizenship made Washington eligible for the office of President. This is true of the first nine Presidents, and also Zachary Taylor. All the others, have been born on US soil *after* the adoption of the constitution, which also makes them American citizens. There have been various politically-motivated attempts to argue that certain candidates (most recently, Obama) were not natural born citizens on some grounds or another, but these arguments have all been specious and were thrown out by the courts. (However, there have been persons who potentially might potentially have been tapped for a Presidential nomination if they'd been natural born citizens, but they weren't, and so they were ineligible. Arnold "The Governator" Schwarzenegger is an example of this.) But there were no such arguments about Washington, because his case is specifically covered in the constitution, making him unarguably an American citizen under US law.
*Most* toilet-snake stories are either fabricated, or so heavily embellished as to effectively be fiction; but yes, at a basic level snakes swimming into toilets it is a real phenomenon that does happen, very rarely.

I love your reactions. The thing with the water exploding is that water actually NEEDS impurities for vapor bubbles to form so it can boil. If your water already has some impurities in it like sugar or salt it will probably just boil normally, but if very pure water is heated in the microwave, it can become superheated PAST the boiling point. And then if an impurity is added after it is removed from the microwave, it can all suddenly boil at once, exploding dangerously. This is pretty rare because most water contains some natural impurities that allow it to boil normally.

1:58 I'm not sure what this has to with "25 Myths About America" but yes, water can explode in a microwave. I've had it happen to me more than once.
Water is a very strange substance, in the grand scheme of things. When water vapor is in the air, it can't just condense in thin air. It has to be contacted by something, like a particle of dust, in order to turn back into liquid water. Boiling water has a related phenomenon. It can't boil unless its surface tension has be broken enough to let the would-be water vapor out. Water has very high surface tension, the second highest for known liquids. Without something to "fracture" that surface tension, the water in the microwave can become supeheated (well above 100°C). When the surface tension is later broken, such as by removing the container from the microwave oven, the water "explodes" with a sudden change to gaseous state. It's not a true chemical explosion, of course, but you can be splattered with some near-boiling water. Usually this all happens when the inside of the container (especially the top around the meniscus of the water) is VERY clean.

I use the microwave every morning for coffee, too. If you put a toothpick, chopstick, or some other wood object in the mug of water, it gives the bubbles something to form on. Most mugs already have some inconsistencies that bubbles will form so you know it's boiling. I have one mug that superheats, so I tend to not use it over the ones that boil normally without wood.

Water can be super heated and super cooled. Water can boil at 100C and freeze at 0C. Distilled or water that's gone through a reverse osmosis filter are more likely to stay as a liquid bevause there are fewer impurities. Water in a microwave can explode because there's not as much variation in temperature which leads to less or no convection. One way to test this (BUT BE VERY CAREFUL!) is to microwave distilled or RO water then add sugar or salt. This will bring nucleation sites to the water allowing it to boil or possibly explode.

It’s lethal for the deer eventually. In my state, during deer hunting season, all harvested deer in certain hunting zones have to have at least the head taken to designated testing sites to be tested for cwd. I don’t think they do anything with the information other than for statistics. I don’t think the results are instantaneous.

I've always taken issue with the "celery is a negative calorie food" because it kind of violates the definition of food. Food is a thing you eat to obtain nutrients and energy. Celery pretty much only provides dietary fiber (aka cellulose you can't digest and thus provides neither nutrients nor energy) and vitamin....K? I'm 95% sure? which people accidentally get enough of and often don't even know is a vitamin because deficiencies are so uncommon (except for newborns). I therefore hold that since eating celery provides you neither necessary nutrition nor any calories, it isn't food and eating it should be considered pica the same way eating grass would be. Grass is actually similarly valuable, dietarily.

0:55. My understanding is that once police used to test the money of suspected drug users for drugs because they often used a rolled up bill as a straw to snort cocaine. They would prosecute them if the bill tested positive. To fight back, drug users decided that they would start using one bill once as a straw and put it back into circulation. After awhile, it spread because of users contaminating it and the contaminated bill spreading it to others.
8:27. I use alcohol wipes on my phone and iPad fairly often. Mainly to get the greasy fingerprints and grime off the screen and body. But, it’s still alcohol.
10:04. His wording sucks. He means born as an American. Washington was British until America became a country. In fact everyone alive on July 4th 1776 were not American. It didn’t exist yet.
15:27. If you don’t used tank chemicals and mold doesn’t grow, toilet tanks can be a source of emergency water too. It would probably my last choice, better than dying, I guess - maybe.

It is ABSOLUTELY true that Martin Van Buren was the first US President to be BORN as an American citizen. The previous Presidents had all been born British. FUN FACT : English was NOT Martin van Buren's native language. He grew up speaking Dutch. He was a descendant of the original Dutch settlers of New York.

    24. Pure water has this issue. There needs to be impurities for bubbles to form around to boil. If you use a filter or bottled water, drop a few grains of salt in it right before heating it.
[it's the reverse of freezing were water needs impurities to freeze or condense] Basically water is weird due to it's polarization and how it shuffles (2H²O)/(H³O+ OH-). Without that, it would be a gas at room temperature and it's freezing point lower than C0²
22 is incorrect. Bad experiment is bad.

I believe all residents of the former colonies at the time of signing of the Constitution automatically became American citizens, the Constitution itself does say the President must be a "natural born citizen" and whether they were that, given the country didn't exist at the time of their birth, could probably have been challenged. Then we couldn't have had a President until 35 years after the signing of the Constitution because that's another requirement--that the President be 35 years old.

Celery is a "negative calorie food": Probably not. You use energy (measured in calories) to breathe, for your heart to beat, your brain to function etc even lying in bed. Doctors figure those functions take just over 1000 calories per day. Call it 1200, so that's about 50 calories per hour. If you ate 50 calories worth of celery (around 300 gms--⅔ lb--according to the video) every hour, your intake and use would be just about in balance not counting the energy to chew and digest the celery which is probably negligible. If you are less celery than that you'd be in deficit. The video says the person in question burned 72 calories while eating the celery. That probably just means it took him close to 1.5 hours to eat it. It would take me days because I don't like raw celery although oddly I love cooked celery.

Water won’t explode upon superheating in the microwave if the vessel you heat the water in has surface defects/bumps that cause bubbles to form. Most ceramic mugs have some small defects inside, so unless you’re heating water for a ridiculously long time AND you’re banging the mug down on the counter after taking it out of the microwave, you should be fine.

When I was stationed at Ft Huchuca, AZ while in the Army I saw a plan for if the town of Sierra Vista attacked the Army post. Was it seriously thought that this would happen? Nope .. but to be fair would have been more probable than a zombie incursion. The plan .. in a similar way that there are plans for response if the US is invaded by Canada, Mexico etc. These are often written up by young officers who are tasked with writing the plan .. not so much because zombies may attack the pentagon or the town next to an Army post will attack .. but because it is a sort of schooling for these officers .. and the plan would be critiqued by older officers .. like a paper written in University. It is education and training.

It is very true that snakes will find their ways into your house through a toilet. I had a Diamondback (very dangerous snake ) do that to my houses and it went into my bedroom. l wasn't afraid of snakes till then and the biggest reason is because the snakes was pregnant and had nightmares about them crawling all over me. That didn't stop till I moved out of the house.
