So I was just talking to somebody today about how when I grew up in Sayreville/South Amboy area. Every small body of water had fish in it. When I was like 10 or 12 years old, I remember fishing this little pond that couldn’t have been bigger in maybe 15 foot or something and I pulled six catfish out of it one day. And I remember a little creek inSayreville and it would always be sunny fish, they look like big goldfish, but every body of water had fish in it and I don’t think you see that today.
The reality is chemicals that run into the rivers via storm drains make survival conditions difficult for the native species. sadly there are heavy metals ,PCBs etc in the Elizabeth River . Im amazed any of the aquatics can survive, but some do!
Also behind White Castle in Rahway is the Rahway River, go East. Nice Trip. Use to do it when I was a Kid Make sure the Tide is going out for a easier Trip
I got out in the kayak last weekend. Almost lost my boots in the mud coming in at low tide. I gotta take the yak to the carwash now, the cockpit is covered in Boston Harbor smelly mud. I always enjoy your adventures! Be well and safe.🤠😎
I knew exactly where you were at every beat of this video lol. Even with the poor state of the river I've always found it comforting. The Kawameeh Swamp a little west of where you were exploring in this video is also pretty cool; I always thought it was fascinating as a kid. It has a couple small lakes in it and the west branch of the Elizabeth River runs through, but I'm not sure if it makes for good kayaking. Might be something to take a look at one day.
hi there ! I was hoping people like you would recognize some of these spots. Over the winter on a really cold day I took Henry my dog over to Kawameeh Park. I was trying to scope out how close we could get to the Water Sphere by Kayak . Im going to take up your idea and get over there , looks like fun. thanks for the thoughtful comment
Nothin like a good pair of waterproof boots. Ive wandered the Rahway River creek beds but not much of the Elizabeth River. Should change that lol. I'm hopeful for the continued remediation of the county's water ways and green spaces. Would like to see a safer environment before I give up the ghost. (also, salt and vinegar chips are the best chips)
Hey hope you have been well! there ae so many unique areas all over these rivers and creeks/brooks. and I love Salt and vinegar chips too, but on the Wise Chip route they were the least seller, kind of specialty . believe it or not that plain wise chip "blue bags" were always the best seller
wtf did i just watch?
A pretty cool vlog of Union County, NJ.
New jersey
I remember that part of Hillside. Its gotten nicer looking. It used to look kinda industrial when that Quick check was there. Time flies.
time does fly, there were alot of people out and about on liberty ave that day doing their thing shopping etc

I’ve always wondered. Drove through that area many years but never venture the river in that area. It’s quite beautiful.
Hey Arnulfo! Great seeing you! Let me know if you want to kayak it with me soon🛶
