    Very beautiful..to watch with this .. and for the Mummy's you can open a dam up fast then you lose control ... of the water. This way by going slow. You are in control just how many millions of water pressures is behind that flap? Great Job to the camera man.... life runs to fast slow down a watch a day cleans its sekf.

    For people complaining that it's slow; it needs to be.
    If it moved quickly then it could create a cavity that all that water would rush to fill into.
    That is an incredible amount of water and is incredibly heavy. If that amount of water slammed into the gate at once, it could be damaged or destroyed and cause a disaster.

    Thanks for sharing! I've worked at hydro plants before, and almost nothing happens quickly at hydroelectric plants. (except for the excited electrons being generated of course!) The gate to the penstock that we were working on at the time, would take upwards of 12+ hours to fully open or close. Most people will never get the opportunity to see these processes in action outside of videos like this. Just for context, are you able to share the site where this footage was taken? I understand if you cant. Thanks again for showing us this.

    • @mogwopjr
      @mogwopjr 8 місяців тому +1

      @@isaT Excellent question! I can't speak to the video here, but I can speak about the hydroelectric pant that I have worked at previously.
      In our case the gate weighs 120 tonnes. The gate uses threaded shafts and gearing, and is coupled to an electric motor which is rated for a specific RPM (revolutions per minute) in which it operates. Since the electric motor rotates at a fixed speed, and the gearing is such that it has to lift (or lower) the 120 tonne gate, the system pretty much sets the speed limit on it's own.
      Also, moving 120 tonnes quickly could introduce some significant safety issues or break things. It's not just moving the massive weight, but stopping it too! Think about stopping a 120 tonne object quickly, and what the effects of doing that would be, if it were moving at a high velocity.
      Toss in the weight of the water putting pressure on the gate and I'm not sure about the maths on that but it is pretty significant - I hope this helps!

    • @Kashmir_explorer786
      @Kashmir_explorer786  11 місяців тому +3

      A substantial water gate, measuring 9m by 7m, is currently engaged in releasing water from a reservoir. The deliberate, gradual opening of the gate is necessitated by the significant load it bears. This measured approach ensures the controlled discharge of water, preventing potential disruptions or adverse effects associated with the heavy release.

      This gate is opened only when we have more water than our required power generation capacity. Usually floating debris came in high flow season and required to be thrown Downstream because it stucks into the trashracks of intake gates and blocks flow towards the powerhouse

It's amazing how essential treatment processes are in transforming that murky appearance into something clean and safe. Kudos to you and your team for playing a crucial role in ensuring our water gets the treatment it needs!"
