  • This video is about how to make organic compost at home for aquarium plants. This DIY organic compost can also be used for terrestrial plants. Here, I used 30% eggshells, 25% dry leaves, 20% grass clippings, and 25% potato and banana peels to make this compost. If it is made for terrestrial plants only then the other fruit and vegetable leftovers can be used here. But meat, bones, or other animal products, fish products, dairy products, animal waste and any kinds of grease or oils should not be used at all.

    I am planning to set up a fully natural fish tank can I use the soil from my garden? Also will I get organic compost at the plant shop? Also what should I cap the soil with? Will sand from the beach work ? Do I need to add organic compost to the soil?

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  Рік тому +1

      Yes, you can use garden soil after preparing it by following the steps in my DIY aquarium soil video. You can prepare your own organic compost by following this video or use organic compost like vermicompost and it is available at all plant nurseries. You can use river sand to cover the soil, but don't use sand from the beach because it contains high levels of salt and contaminants.

    How many times can pour the water in this process complete

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  2 роки тому +1

      As a general rule, a compost pile should be watered every three to seven days. However, the amount of water required and the actual frequency will depend on various factors, such as the amount of compost used and its location. It's also important to ensure that the compost is not over or under watered. Too much or too little water can damage your compost, causing it to decompose too fast or not fast enough. At lower moisture levels, microbial activity is limited and at higher levels, the process is more likely to become anaerobic and smelly. So it is important to ensure that the moisture content of the compost is moderate.

      It's not soil, it's organic compost fertilizer. It needs to be mixed with the garden soil first and it will provide nutrients to the plants for 2 months, after that you can use this fertilizer as root tabs for the aquarium soil.

      I myself have never used it in any of my aquariums so I can't say for sure whether the results will be good or bad. However, I think cow manure can be used in planted aquariums, but very small amounts such as 20% cow manure can be mixed with 80% soil. You can check this out - amzn.to/3E9d26V
