Seriously almost felt like my 2 first games were 2 different titles, because of I helped Grove, then visited Underdark and to Last Light Inn, while second playthrough was evil and I betrayed Grove, went through Mountain Pass, went to Moonrise.
After not knowing what BG was and BG3 after watching an hour long gameplay it’s easy to find why it won, its way more immersive than spider man 2 and tbh I’ve been waiting for an campaign co-op type game with an actually story. The industry now is made for ppl with no attention span and companies trying to make a quick buck off brainless consumers
Whether you liked the game you played is more important than being confirmed by a reward, right ? For me Spider-Man 2 was a interactive movies in the end (kinda Michael Bay thing...) For me Larian Studio fixed a new standard for all this AAA Studio with their greedy tactics... Like you, BG3 is my fav game i played in my life.
Spiderman 2 fans. Literally the only people surprised BG3 won. (Well, maybe Zelda fans to a lesser degree.) It's in the top 2 of reviewed games all time on Metacritic for both PC and PS5.
The fact that people think this was not a direct fight between BG3 and ToTK is hilarious to me. Sony I want to like your games but never porting them to Steam bare minimum is a stupid financial decision.
Alan wake was dramatically more likely to win. I honestly was very surprised people genuinely thought Spiderman was capable of winning basically anything when it was outperformed in every category by three other games
This is the thing that I find to be even stranger. AW2 was clearly in 2nd place among critics and then TotK and yet Spider-man fans seem more upset about the result than the fans of those 2 games. I honestly think that if not for fan-voting counting for 10% of the vote, Alan Wake II might have taken it.@@coletrainhetrick
I wouldn't exactly call Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 "predecessors" to 3. Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2, Larian Studio's last two titles, would have that label. OG Baldur's Gate is quite dissimilar to its new version, its not even the same developers.
It's actually more similar to BG 1 and 2 than it is to the DoS2. All it shares with DoS2 is being turn based. With BG 1 and 2, it's literally a continuation of the story.
@JoshuaOkolie story wise yes, but in terms of gameplay, it's quite different. OG Baldurs Gate isn't turn based, and it doesn't use 5e DnD, it uses 3.5e rules. The Divinity: Original Sin series literally has the same exact game engine of BG3, and is fully turn-based and uses the 5e rules set. Please don't argue Baldurs Gate with me, I've been playing the series AND DnD for 30 years.
@@boosterprime5757 DoS2 doesn't use the 5e ruleset though. I mean, it's turn based but the rules system is different. What better criteria can make a game a predecessor of another than being related storywise? Sharing an engine doesn't make one game a predecessor of another either.
How could spider man win when it’s an exclusive title. Come on now. You can’t even play it without owning a ps5. BG3 is literally on two ways to play and was crushing it on both ps5 and pc.

I won’t lie I kinda alrdy figured the game would’ve won considering it got 98% positivity rate on steam. But that’s just steam, I didnt see what people thought of outside of it
I played Baldurs Gate 3, Tears of the Kingdom, and Spiderman 2, and enjoyed all 3 very much. That being said, Spiderman 2 is LEAGUES below either of the others. Even if Baldurs Gate 3 didn’t exist, Tears of the Kingdom would have won.
My favorite part is that these guys who’ve never even heard of BG3 see Swen Vincke (Larion CEO) walking up to get the award in a full suit of armor. 😂😂😂😂😂 I love that guy. Being weird, making one of the best games I’ve ever played, and speaking up against the corrupt game publishers, developers, stockholders, and other nonsense. This man deserves all my praises.
I'm surprised anyone would honestly think BG3 wouldn't win GOTY after pretty much sweeping the Golden Joystick. Feel like most of these streamers are just being overly dramatic for the views.
Played BG3 over 200 hours. Played Spider-Man 2 over 50 hours. Don't get me wrong, Spider-Man 2 is mad fun...but Baldur's Gate 3 is phenomenal. It's up there with other amazing games like Elden Ring, Witcher 3, Zelda BotW, etc. Other games that were CLEAR winners of GotY
So there is really a very simple question to figure out which of these two games is more deserving of GOTY. What do you think the audience of the game will look like in a year from now? Baldur's Gate will have a player base that looks like Skyrim where even years after release there will still be a lot of people playing it will be streamed on Twitch with decent viewership it will have youtube videos being made for it for years to come. Mean while Spiderman even it it is a great game that is a lot of fun will never have that sort of longevity. Even now only a few months after release it is quite a far down the list of top games on twitch it's Playstation exclusivity also means it will never reach as many players. In a years time there is going to be very few eyes on Spiderman but there will still many on Baldur's Gate 3.
I think people are divided between thinking "Game of the Year" goes to like the most cool game or something (?) and to a game of an awesome quality but also that was impactful that year and changed the industry in some way. I see this last point of view is addressed in the video, so yeah I'm with you. I didn't played Tears of the Kingdom nor Spiderman, but they were really that different from their previous games to win? Because Botw already won one time and for me it was 100% deserved, but I think the great innovation was that year not this one I don't know.
3:50 I have a question and it is an earnest question and I mean no animosity by it, but it can be easily interpreted that way. I am curious if this distaste for the reading involved, comes from a person taste, or are you unable to read to the level where it is comfortable to do easily? PLEASE do not take this question as one of malice, or trying to make you feel bad. I am such a huge fan of those games and I genuinely want to know where you are coming from.
Just from personal taste!! I promise you it's not the level haha. What I do for a living requires a lot of reading comprehension and critical thought so many times after a full day of work I can't always continue to do it haha. I appreciate you taking the time to write out your question :)
@lastbrohican5244 that certainly makes a ton of sense!! I loved those games so much and thought the story was so good, I struggled to imagine why anyone wouldn't like them! i would rather play monster hunter or Destiny or FF14 or deep rock over BG3 anytime, but even i can see that it deserves to win game of the year. And it was obvious month ago that BG3 would win. I dont get how people can act so surprised when it did.
Replayability. To me, that was the main deciding factor on why Baldur's Gate 3 won Game of the Year. And as some one who has played the beta releases and watched this game evolved and progressed over the years and has played the official complete version 3 times so far, it was a well earned award.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I WANT MY STUPID BUTTOM MASHY HANDHOLDED PLATINUM-GAME WANNABE WHICH PLAYS AND LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME AS ANY OTHER GAME TO WINNNNN, I DON'T WANT GOOD GAMES TO GET ANY RECOGNIZION WHATSOEVEERRRR NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Let me preface this by saying that BG3 is the game of the year and someone else said more like Game of the Decade which I 100% agree with. However, I do have one gripe with BG3. It's a massive time suck. If you're a casual gamer than there is no way you will have time to complete one playthrough let alone other playthroughs.
All I’m gonna say is: When a game gets released and developers everywhere are saying shit like “guys I know the games good, but just please have realistic expectations going forward”. You know that games probably gonna be game of the year
Spiderman: a linear as fuck game with a set story with zero replayability and barely 24 hours worth of content. You play it once to 100%, you have zero reason to ever play it again. Meanwhile, Baldurs Gate 3 a game that while has a set story line, has literally HUNDREDS OF WAYS to go from the start to finish, where every choice you make, every class plays differently, every race changes something, playing good, bad or neutral changes something, and all the way down to the dice roll flip flopping your playthrough, with a story that runs for 56 hours (assuming you dont cheese and listen to dialogue etc) not to mention everything there is to explore and find, that you have hundreds if not THOUSANDS of hours of content to play. Come the fuck on. SM2 was a good game, sure, but it was NOT GOTY. It was your generic action adventure game. Fucking Armored Core had a more immersive and interesting story and gameplay than it did, and that game (as much as i LOVE it) is niche AF!
“ *NOOO* it has to be the game where I smash the same two buttons for 12 hours before it’s over” 😢 Don’t get me wrong, Spider Man 2 is a good game, but it just builds on the formula of the Arkham games, while Baldur’s Gate 3 is just on a whole other level and that’s coming from me, someone who never played a Dungeons & Dragons, or turn based game ever before. At first I thought BG3 won’t be for me, but the sheer amount of options you have to solve different situations, the story and the (voice)-acting is just too good and everyone that gives BG3 a chance and tries it before judging it will realize that.
BG3 is a reskin of Divinity 2 which is better. I love BG3 and got the golden dice on the first day honor mode came out, but it's not better than tears of the kingdom, especially with how buggy and borderline unplayable BG3 has become in the past few weeks.
Exept bg3 has a completely different sytem and story as it uses the 5e ruleset rather then the rpg system dos uses. They are only really simair in being turnbased games made by larian

plus it's just the sequel its not thatdifferent
I don't think it would win something, there's still Alan Wake and Zelda. Fpr actors that would probably be Ben Starr
Played through BG3 several times and discover something new every time. Seriously almost felt like my 2 first games were 2 different titles, because of I helped Grove, then visited Underdark and to Last Light Inn, while second playthrough was evil and I betrayed Grove, went through Mountain Pass, went to Moonrise.
You do know that ypu can go both to the Underdark and the Mountain Pass in one gameplay?
@@dominika3762 I found out later, but first playthroughs I thought it was one or the other.
That is a very valid point!
Im so sorry, but baldurs gate 3 was so good that i never even realized there was a spiderman game or any other game released this year. Crazy right?
This year is a wonder. There is bg3... and then there is the day after
Everything changed after it came out.
poor guys should have played the game
You and I can agree on that :)
Attention span issue
This is probably the game of the decade I mean I would be surprised if something came up in 6 years even close to this
Elder scrolls six hopefully comes out within 6 years that will probably give bg3 a run for ita money
@@TheBibleIsaWeirdThingnot with how starfield turned out. I'm not holding out much hope for tes6
@@bluemoon1716 That's a good point, but I hope it's fantastic.
yep no reason to hope for things to fail, I hope I play a better game than bg3 and bg3 is my favourite game
Whether you liked the game you played is more important than being confirmed by a reward, right ?
For me Spider-Man 2 was a interactive movies in the end (kinda Michael Bay thing...)
For me Larian Studio fixed a new standard for all this AAA Studio with their greedy tactics...
Like you, BG3 is my fav game i played in my life.
Everything Spiderman 2 did the Arkham series did 100 times better already years ago
@@coletrainhetrick It is very likely that SM2 fans were in a bubble of sorts. That's why the shock seems quite genuine, even.
All Sony has to do is to port over more of their PS3 stuff to PC.
@@notlNSIGHT still waiting on Ghosts of Tsushima, but it has been like 4 years now so not getting my hopes up
This is the thing that I find to be even stranger. AW2 was clearly in 2nd place among critics and then TotK and yet Spider-man fans seem more upset about the result than the fans of those 2 games. I honestly think that if not for fan-voting counting for 10% of the vote, Alan Wake II might have taken it.@@coletrainhetrick
The tears are so sweet!
Its also an older addition of dnd
@@boosterprime5757the original Baldur's Gate uses AD&D 2e. Perhaps you're thinking of Neverwinter Nights.
These idiots really thought Spiderman would win 🤦🏻♂️
Its spider man!!!! Its spider man!!!
This is exactly how I imagined spider man fans hahah
How could spider man win when it’s an exclusive title. Come on now. You can’t even play it without owning a ps5.
BG3 is literally on two ways to play and was crushing it on both ps5 and pc.
As the night of announcement for goty it was released on xbox as well
It's on Mac too. And Xbox now!
It's 2023's GOTY material, but it's not really GOTY material in any other context than modern gaming.
What do you think the "Y" stands for?
@@flvbbernvggets This game wouldn't be goty if it was released in any year pre microtransaction hell. Most RPG's made by competent teams had relatively high quality
Planning on getting a solid state drive so I can actually play BG3 without waiting minutes for stuff to load in.
Not a bad idea at all
I'm literally considering uprading almost my whole setup for this game. It's been 5 years already and it just deserves its full glory lol.
@@lastbrohican5244 My processor is underpowered slightly but it should be fine since some dude on reddit ran it with a pentium and I'm sure there's stuff I can do to make it run better either way
@@nahuelmat console gamer here , built my first new pc in 20 years just for BG3. With an alienware oled 1400p 165hz widesceen for the HDR goodness.
I don’t even understand why spiderman game got nominated in the first place. Totk is just botw dlc sold at full price, but spiderman gameplay not even on the same level. And for sure it’s nowhere near the level of alan wake 2 & bg3.
"have you ever played baldur's gate 3?"
me looking at my bg3 completed run save file and other 4 on going runs lol
loved the thumbnail choice.. very tasteful
Thank you! I generated it with MidJourney :)
It's extremely simple. Exclusives should never win GOTY. Ever. You wanna compete? Release the game on all platforms
I think that is a great point!
I won’t lie I kinda alrdy figured the game would’ve won considering it got 98% positivity rate on steam. But that’s just steam, I didnt see what people thought of outside of it
larian studio is not a large developer there probly getting there i guess but the founder said he doesnt want to be a big studio
I played Baldurs Gate 3, Tears of the Kingdom, and Spiderman 2, and enjoyed all 3 very much. That being said, Spiderman 2 is LEAGUES below either of the others. Even if Baldurs Gate 3 didn’t exist, Tears of the Kingdom would have won.
played spiderman 2, felt it could justve been a dlc to the first game.
same with GoW ragnarok.
sorry not sorry.
Nor do I blame you!
Never apologise for telling the truth.
What's this spiderman game they keep talking about never heard of it before looking up reactions.
Every year someone flips out when the Sony exclusive doesn’t win
My favorite part is that these guys who’ve never even heard of BG3 see Swen Vincke (Larion CEO) walking up to get the award in a full suit of armor. 😂😂😂😂😂 I love that guy. Being weird, making one of the best games I’ve ever played, and speaking up against the corrupt game publishers, developers, stockholders, and other nonsense. This man deserves all my praises.
Spirderman fans STAY MAD
the second guy kinda reminded me of vizzini from the princess bride
I've played BG3 but not Spider Man. In fact, I did not buy any games this year other than For the King 2. I bought BG3 on early access way back when.
One thing that amazes me is that people call it rig, but if it really was then Sony or Nintendo would win.
But that makes perfect sense!
I would recommend watching a video on the games and the story bits that are important to BG3. There's a lot and I think kinda enriches the story, I bet you'll like it if you're a fan of bg3
@@jaredrichardson78 I do plan on revisiting them - I love playing DnD with my friends on a table so I knew that after attaching myself to this game I needed to give BG 1 & 2 a try again.
@@lastbrohican5244 If you do play 1 & 2, go looking on the shelves of the whore house you find Raphael in, in chapter 3 of BG 3. There are some hilarious books you'll find there, one is a revisionist history smut book of one of the companions and it is so god damn funny if you know the story how it actually went
i know of 0 people who have ever played any spiderman game ever
That mouth breather in the second clip has been getting clowned on so hard he's gonna have to quit the internet.
Spider-Man 2 being nominated 8 times, one of which GOTY is a victory in itself when superhero games are consider not serious enough at the awards. It just wasn't Insomniac's year. They're already working on Spider-Man 3 and I hope they break through and sweep. And this is coming from a Baldur's Gate 3 fan.
Do someone really WANTED spiderman over BG3 or they are doing it just for the engagement
Bluds thought a dlc was gonna win GOTY
I played spiderguy and bg3. Bg3 was about 320 hours better so far.
There's a lot to be said about the plight of casual gamers
my 9 year old brother 100% spider man 2 with 26 hours of playtime. Thats a fucking joke, sure the game is good but comparing to a 100+ hour masterpiece in game design is just not even a contest that SM2 could dream of winning
I don't think bg3 wins but thats becasue im just not into it. Im kinda glad it won tho cos that game straight up defined how games should now be made
i would rather play monster hunter or Destiny or FF14 or deep rock over BG3 anytime, but even i can see that it deserves to win game of the year. And it was obvious month ago that BG3 would win. I dont get how people can act so surprised when it did.
As much as I liked this year's Spider-man game, my literal favourite marvel hero.... Baldur's Gate is literally Goku....
People finna be picking some lame DnD game over AC6, huh?
The first guy is like a fcking child
Atleast you arnt Starfield Spiderman
Replayability. To me, that was the main deciding factor on why Baldur's Gate 3 won Game of the Year. And as some one who has played the beta releases and watched this game evolved and progressed over the years and has played the official complete version 3 times so far, it was a well earned award.
Sony Pony are such babies.
The funniest reaction was that of the guy who upon hearing the announcement started trashing his room

People actually believe spiderman 2 will win GOTY?😂
i wonder how many people seethe when elden ring won goty lol
Gamers coping and seething that Larian went so woke that they made the best RPG ever made.
Bro how are you that upset that a game didn't win goty? You didn't make the game and you don't get a prize if they win.
Baldurs Gates 3 is the best game of All time
2nd guy was so annoying? IT DOESNT MAKE SM2 A BAD GAME
hahahaha, you are very right about that
it deserves it, just like when Elden ring won.
Spider-man you can 100% in 40 hours
There are people who spend 40 hours of BG3, and still be in the Character creator.
Soooo true
I love baldurs gate 3 :D
All I’m gonna say is:
When a game gets released and developers everywhere are saying shit like “guys I know the games good, but just please have realistic expectations going forward”. You know that games probably gonna be game of the year
It definitely deserved it
Spiderman: a linear as fuck game with a set story with zero replayability and barely 24 hours worth of content.
Spider Man... LOL
Homem Aranha foi pura lacração mereceu não ganhar nada
its genuinely baffling the ponies were actually delusional enough to believe the ESG maxxed garbage that is Soy-man 2 would win over BG3.
lol to the guy at 49 second mark yes played BG3 and not Spiderman 2. BG3 deserved GOTY whereas Spiderman 2 was worse than 1.
I played Spider-Man and Zelda. BG3 was clearly GOTY. The other two were sequels and did nothing new.
More fanboys crying the Sony exclusive didn't win again.
Totk is DLC sold at full price.
Cope and seethe console babies.
“ *NOOO* it has to be the game where I smash the same two buttons for 12 hours before it’s over” 😢
Don’t get me wrong, Spider Man 2 is a good game, but it just builds on the formula of the Arkham games, while Baldur’s Gate 3 is just on a whole other level and that’s coming from me, someone who never played a Dungeons & Dragons, or turn based game ever before. At first I thought BG3 won’t be for me, but the sheer amount of options you have to solve different situations, the story and the (voice)-acting is just too good and everyone that gives BG3 a chance and tries it before judging it will realize that.
womp womp
Bg3💪💪💪
Spiderman was shite.
Instead of dumping on Baldur's Gate 3, tell us why Tears of the Kingdom deserved GOTY
Console exclusives don't, and never will, deserve to win GOTY. Also; No. ToK is mid. That's a fact.
ppl who hate bg3 are mouth breathers who can barely sit through a cutscene without skipping
I love this comment haha.
wow heavy incel vibes from those guys
