Wonderful to hear his music & see him again. Went most Friday & Saturday nite in St Louis to hear him play. Now I am 42 years sober still remember all the pleasure of his music. God Bless Phil!
I was 10 years old. I didn't know this side of Phil before, but clearly an awesome Musical talent, in general. I first learned about him in the early 80's, as a Christian Artist and yes, he is out of this world!
@@scottmeeker9971 My bad, ( I was just viewing some rare vids of trumpeter "RICK" Gardner.) No disrespect meant. And thanks for the verification. What a talented keyboardist. Peace
@@michaeldean9338 If you check the video close you can see near the end Dick was also playing bass pedals with his feet. A super talented guy that went on to play with Clapton for many years. Thanks
I had the privilege to play with him and 120trumpets in Pennsylvania. What a great sound and if you thought the gates of heaven would open, that day the spirit moved everyone. He has been a true a great friend since. Praise the sound of his horn for the lord.
Mark Johnson I wish it was. It was such a great sound especially at one point he had us all play any note in the c chord. Didn't matter how high or low or fast or slow, it was amazing. I only have that memory. It was at Penn State and a crowd of 1500.
I played at that event too!... We went together. LOL... How are you Dave. Been to Brunswick a few times but haven't seen you. Was there for Don's retirement and a few funerals (unfortunately)
Wow... amazing..brings chills to my arms. I thought about my loving brother in law. He was grumpy player . May he rest in peace. Love you forever brother in law. Margie.💅🌹💗
Wow, I was 6 in a half years old when this aired. When I first saw this video of the Ed Sullivan show, I was like what the...? Sullivan's show in color! I was 4 years old when I started watching Sullivan's show, when television was in black and white. Then I saw 1971, and I sad "Oh, 1971, yep, that's about right." :-) Phil Driscoll's playing was just as awesome back then. He seem to make the trumpet talk.
Truly one of the world's greatest trumpet 🎺 ❤️ players and a great singer. I really love his Christian ✝️ music. I think that's why he is underrated in this secular world ❤
@@jaypee6061 - it is a shame Jay... These people have no soul ... just dead bodies walking around, using up all the good air. Phil!!! We need more music like this from you. Not only we... the the whole damn world.
powerful praise SELAH Hallelujah I just flowed in the Holy Spirit. Sung to a song word by word to the tune as the spirit . And I danced 💃 My spirit energized also sung in the Spirit..... This one is anointed 👌👌👌🙌🙌❣️❣️❣️💃💃💃
Back in '69, 2 years prior to this, he did a complete Christian album called "A Touch of Trumpet" on Word records. -However, he was wavering in his faith, and wandered for from the Lord for a few years.
I heard that one night Johnny Carson mentioned that he had read somewhere that Doc was considered the best trumpet player in the world and he said to Doc "If your the best than who do you listen to"? Doc said he liked Phil Driscoll.
what a find. the greatest trumpeter in the world even then. NOW even better playing for KING of kings JESUS CHRIST. check out his recording on you tube at the columbine massacre memorial service. it will change your life. also ck out Miracles & Phil Driscoll on Said Roth show.
so well said. i was blessed to meet Phil more than once personally in his earlier Christian years. helped him set up his tape tables and even sold some tapes with his good friend Dean Hudson. wonderful times and truly Phil is a wonderful brother in Christ. really enjoyed this older look at him - didn't know he was on Ed Sullivan. amazing.
Wow! That's a side of P.D. I've never seen before. That is a talent that comes along once in a very long while. How did he get from this to Christian music??? Great stuff though.
So ignorant, when Phil came to be a Christian that's when He became anointed.. Anyone can misuse what God has given them for the world, sad thing is they hardly ever realize they are playing for satan
This video features one of the greatest organ players of our time, Dicky Sims that took his Hammond B3 to a new level. The drummer in the video Jamie Oldaker played with Sims in the Eric Clapton band in the 70's.

That was some funky rock-themed trumpet solo! 🎺 incredible young non-Christian Phil! Hands down He was born to play the horn! 🙌🏾🎺✨️👏🏾🎶

yes Phil Driscoll was well known to all the big names back in the early 70s. he played trumpet for several of them such as Blood Sweat and Tears.
Ez a Keith Emerson a Hamondnál?

Do the Continetal - The Earl's
I'll Be Around - The Spinners
The Ghetto - Donnie Hathaway
Hit The Road Jack - Ray Charles
A Star in the Ghetto - AWB
