    The Volvo Amazon 123GT was produced between 1967 and 1968 due to increased demands from sporting circles for a factory built "sharper" car in the Volvo 120 series. It featured a 115Bhp engine and “special equipment” including front spot lights, a dash mounted rev counter, GT steering wheel and suspension components from the Volvo P1800.
    It’s thought that around 1500 123GT’s were produced, with around 600 appearing in an online register, making the 123GT model perhaps the second rarest production model after the P1900. This example, in white with red upholstery, is the rarest of its type - with only a handful remaining in the UK.
    Engine:
    Tinustuning.nl built B20 engine stroked to 2500cc. Forged con-rods and 92mm rally pistons, TT6 cam shaft, 123 distributor, Weber 45DCOE carburettors, stainless steel exhaust system. Gearbox is uprated M41 G-type overdrive
    Engine output is expected to be 180-200Bhp with over 250Nm torque.
    Chassis:
    Gaz adjustable dampers and -60mm uprated springs. Poly bushed all round. Wheels are wider 5.5 inch steelies with Dunlop 195/65/R15 tyres
    History of this car:
    The current owner of this car is Declan Burke, who acquired it in 2016. The car had previously spent 3 years in Ireland and was shipped back to England by its former owner. Declan has undertaken a 2 year restoration of the car, comprising of a complete body shell overhaul with all new floor pans and panels. All work, including welding, bodywork and paint was carried out by Declan at his home workshop in London.
    Declan is the son of the late Tony Burke who owned a Volvo 122s (KBY422D) that won the World Concours Championship in 1990. This car is built as a tribute to his remarkable achievements.

    So much work, I give all these restorers incredible respect. I kept normal 122s alive and thats about it. Almost bought a 123gt in the 1980s too stupid or too poor to know what it really was back than.

      I have a 123GT that I started restoring & got a lot of the hard stuff done, I have loads of parts. It ran great when I had a sever heart attack. I will never be able to finish it. I have about 15K tied up that I know I won't get back. So if anyone needs one, let me know. Its stored in Alabama.

    I have a 1967 122s and would love a 123GT. However, a previous owner of mine added several 123GT upgrades including twin SU's, overdrive and the manifold. I am also fortunately it is 100% rust free and looks/drives as if it was one year old. But I don't have the badge or authenticity this vehicle has! Great job, guys.

    In the 70s I has a 122s, then my brother had a 123gt and after that a P1800. My 122s was only 11 years old when I owned it and it looked antique then. Now the average car in the USA today is 13 years old.

      Unrelated to this post,but i hope you may be able to offer some advice.
      I'm currently restoring/rebuilding a 1970 2 door 133 (in Hampshire UK)and noticed yours is a 2 door.
      I'm having problems fitting the rear side window rubber/metal surrounds as they appear to have shrunk" They came off the car but seem about an inch too short getting them back on.
      I tried putting them on then levering the last bit with a plastic shoe horn,but still very tight.
      Did yours go in easily,if not any tips you can offer?
      Ps,Nice job,luckily mine wasn't as rusty,but still had a lot of welding to do!

      Hi.Thanks for a quick response.
      Mine doesn't exactly lie in the channel!
      It's a metal trim surrounded by rubber.The old ones are going back in as they're in perfect condition.
      May have to just cut a slot in them.
      Thanks anyway.

    • @declanburke4146
      @declanburke4146  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks, I painted the roof black as a tribute to my late father, who owned a white 122s with a black roof. The car is a gen GT, which would have been originally finished in straight 79 pearl white.

    I have 1966 Volvo 122 S and I'm looking to restore it. I need some body trim and a few interior parts. Anyone know where to find these parts?

    • @davidbarlow350
      @davidbarlow350 4 роки тому +1

      If you're in the UK try Brookhouse Volvo or IPD in the States. I'm currently restoring (or to be precise,actually re-building from scratch)a 1970 130 Amazon.

    • @stephenburnage7687
      @stephenburnage7687 4 роки тому

      @@davidbarlow350 I have a Volvo 122s and purchased many items from IPD. Great source for many components but not everything. Parts that are hard to find are things like trim pieces and often the best solution is to buy a scrapped doner car. You might also try Volvo itself. Last time I checked they still had 122s parts listed. You can also sometimes get lucky on Ebay.

    • @davidbarlow350

      @@stephenburnage7687 good points.Not many scrapped donor cars around!
      Will be looking at the trim in (hopefully)in a few months.Next job is to spray it.Nearly ready,just waiting for some warm weather as the water based (the expensive water based)didn't dry in September,so July could see it in paint.(Hopefully no birds nesting in the barn then,either).

    • @declanburke4146

      I agree - I have strayed from the ethos of concours with some of the non-original parts. My aim was to create a period resto with a high (concours) build quality. I have not entered it in any concours events for this reason.
