i 💙JR. he may have had negative qualities, but he embodied qualities that canadian and american blue-collar guys could appreciate: he gave it all he could on the ice and he actually cared about the fans working hard to earn money to come to the arena.
as an aside tracy deserves credit for staying loyal to JR when she could have sprinted for the hills. and she is still very beautiful now as she was in her prime years.

What kept JR out of the Hall was so called writers who constantly tripped over their bottom lips dealing with Roenick. That’s exactly why they should Reveal every person who voted against him. Personalities should never count. JR should have been in years ago. The highest scoring U.S. born player, and 4th highest point total.

@@thomaspreszcator He must have gotten himself blacklisted by the media. Hockey journos make up a sizable portion of the election committee. Enough to block him is my guess. He was known for being unfriendly to the media, but maybe it was to the degree that they refuse to acknowledge how incredible he was.
His overall performance was also blended enough to make the worst appraisal of him make it seem like his status is questionable (I don't think it is but I can see how someone would make that case). He won more cups than Bure (1, missed 2 by a game 7 loss) but fewer than Fedorov. He wasn't as much of a centerpiece of either SCF team he played on to garner the merit Bure did in his one SCF appearance. His other playoff performances were marred by bad luck (Bure's injury in '96 making them overall pretty lame 'nucks, and they also had to face the eventual champion Avalanche in the first round; broken ankle in '93; and concussion as payback from JR himself in '03. When he got off to statistically productive starts in the playoffs, he got hurt and his team got eliminated early). He had hot years and cold years, but was hurt enough to make his overall point production look less impressive than it was. Had he played full seasons early on, his point totals would have been consistently staggering, instead of making '93 and '96 look like they were exceptional years. His choice not to participate for Team Russia after the '96 World Cup limited their success and his overall stature in the eyes of the Hall.
Even with all that, it's ridiculous he's being excluded. He deserves to be there far ahead of a lot of the recent inductees.

It's not about "Falling in line" it's about being a decent human being and not being rewarded for saying hateful things. Despite not having won any individual trophy or Stanley cup, he is more than deserving to be part of the hall of fame:
    - 48th all time scorer with 1 216 points, all of the 47 players ahead and some below him are in the HOF.
    - 42nd all time leader in goals
-17th all time in game winning goals
    - 9 times all stars
Plus I would take into consideration that he was one of biggest and most well known hockey stars in the 90's.

This is meant as no disrespect to Roenick, but why is he allowed into the HHOF before Theoren Fleury?
Both have said and done controversial things. That we can establish.
However, the Hall of Fame should (keyword should) be based on hockey achievements.
Fleury averaged over a point a game in his pro career. Roenick did not.
Fleury was voted to the second all star team for the 1994-95 season. Roenick was not named to any season all star teams.
Fleury averaged over a point a game in the playoffs, Roenick did not.
This doesn’t add up, in my eyes.

This story presumes that JR was a no doubt HOF game who was kept out temporarily due to his personality.....but is that really the case? He had the most points of all eligible players who wasn't in the HOF, but now that is Bernie Nicholls who was only 7 points back, is Bernie a no doubt HOF guy now? 11 points back was Damphousse, who actually won a cup, why isn't he in the HOF ahead of Roenick? Where is the line between very good and HOF, is it at Brind'Amour? Tkachuk? Dave Taylor? Bobby Smith? Verbeek? Sorry, but the controversy surrounding JR is the only reason there is any story at all, without that not too many people would really care if he wasn't in the HOF
