    A buddy of mine purchased the 2021 KTM freeride and it's definitely a pretty solid and gnarly bike. I never thought in my lifetime I would ever ride an electric dirt bike and better yet think about even purchasing one. I've taken my friends everywhere from the mountains, race track, highway/freeway, roadway, and just about anywhere else you can think of. Definitely a good bike and a good start to see what the future holds with new technology when it comes to electric dirt bikes.

  • @mrskywalker115
    @mrskywalker115 3 роки тому +5

    I think he misspoke on the fork, the freerides are using the 85/105 forks, not the full size mx forks(43mm vs 48mm and 10in vs 12in travel). I would love one of these but the price is too high at the moment and used ones are few and far between plus still cost alot when you do find them. Theres a used 2020 for $11k within driving distance from me but thats essentially new price.
    For now I'll just keep on rocking my modded surron(which has ktm forks lol) and when I need a full size bike to race I have a 20 TC125 and dr200 for trails when my wife takes the surron haha

    I was just talking with some of my moto friends about electric bikes and my biggest complaint is just loving clutches and gearing on a bike. Sure you’d eventually get used to just a one drive thing but I really think these companies should introduce a least a clutch into the equation. Think of all the times you would rev the engine and pop the clutch to wheelie or get over obstacles. On a e-bike a clutch could help with that even in the lower HP modes.

    • @EdwinOlding
      @EdwinOlding  3 роки тому +6

      the reason most electric vehicles don't have gears or clutches is driveline loss, i.e. the butt ton of friction that's caused by these technically not mandatory things

    • @danielnyman6082
      @danielnyman6082 3 роки тому +7

      The reason why revving the engine and using clutch to accelarate works on a gasoline enine is that with higher revolutions you get more torque. With electric motors the torque stays the same with different revolutions. So doing that with an electric motor would be just wasting power on friction and you would still get the same torque.
      Having gears to increase torque or top speed works but it adds a lot of complexity and cost with a relatilely low advantage

    I just found GHPC like 3 weeks ago and have been obsessed, then in a video yesterday found out about your channel and I'm loving it! I know I'm late to the party and you may not see this, but how do you get your vocals to sound so good in the videos? I had a scarlett solo audio interface and switched to the universal audio volt 4 recently. Got rid of my usb mic and got the audio technica AT2020 and in my videos I cannot get my voice to sound nearly as clean. Not sure if the vintage preamp giving my voice tube saturation is doing it (though that should make it sound nice and rich), or if my EQ and compression settings in davinci resolve are just off. Didn't have to do much to my USB mic to get a great sound, but with XLR I do. Maybe it's just giving me a more accurate recording of my voice that I'm not used to. Or something as simple as my gain being too high catching room reflections. Lol.

    Your first impressions of the KTM were telling in light of owning a modded Sur-Ron.
    What you get with a "Project" bike is even after changing everything except the frame & motor, is still a $ 3,500 Chinese bike with all the compromises baked in from a company designing to a price point...not to get the best bike they can make.
    While the KTM is also built to a price, $ 10,499 gave the engineers a lot more room to work.
    With a 15kw Sur-Ron yes its fast, but essentially, you have just thrown a lot of aftermarket parts at a 30 mph chassis & all the wheels, suspension, brakes etc. don't give you a cohesive package like you get from a company that has been making 60 mph+ dirtbikes for 50+ years.

  • @rtsstream
    @rtsstream 2 роки тому

    you could build something as good or better than this bike for about 3k (probably less if you find a cheap dirtbike frame..I actually bought a new chinese dirtbike and after the engine overheated on me I decided it was time to convert it!) . I just recently finished an electric dirtbike conversion with a qs 138 v3 motor and votol em150/2 controller (got them from electro and co) and im using a 72v 25ah battery that can supply 200a peak. Just finished the build a couple days ago and its mind blowing. Tops out at 60mph (the ktm is 50)..with my current setup the motor is capable of 15kw (18kw on the ktm but it weighs over 70 lbs more than my bike) and 56 nm (42nm on the ktm). I built this bike for less than the cost of a second ktm battery :)

    I have rode one and they are fun, you only get 1hr or so out of the battery on an mx track and 2 ish on single track. The battery pack drops to about 70% cap after 700 cycles which is great for about 600hrs riding, a T2 would have been rebuilt many times in the same time frame and factor in the cost of fuel, premix and gear box oil, a replacement battery looks like an ok deal. The deal breaker for me is still the range and charge time.
