I first arrived here from the USA before you were born, 1968 to be exact. I distinctly remember the 'red rattlers' on the old NSWGR New South Wales Government Railways logo. Those carriages had character and you start to wonder, if those carriages could speak, what stories they would tell about the passengers that rode in them in the early 30s up until the last of them left the network in the early 90s. They weren't the safest of carriages, but at least they didn't look like the nightmare in silver their antecedents were, some of which are still on the network, the red rattlers had chutzpah. I get nostalgic think about them when I used to ride in them when I went to school in Kogarah in the late 60s.
At 2:30 a Waratah passes, then at 4:50 another Waratah passes on the same track. There were 2 minutes are 20 seconds between those to trains as there were no cuts in the footage. Finally Sydney's trains are achieving good headways. I think continuous footage vlogs would be cool, as long as you can find a station busy enough. This vlog was good as there were few cuts. Merry Christmas!
The two waratahs are most likely on different services. The first one might be going to Penrith or Richmond, while the second one 2 minutes and 20 seconds after, is going to maybe Leppington or Paramatta. So, although they are on the same tracks, they are not on the same service. So unfortunaetly we will have to wait quite a while before 2 minute services come in. If they come in at all. Merry Christmas!
@@treypohe4593 Yeah probably. I was giving examples or reasons why it wouldn't be possible having two trains 2 minutes from each other on the same service. But yeah, thanks.
I wasn't talking about how frequent the specific services are, I just meant that they ran two trains within two and a half minutes of each other. Even if they weren't going to the same place it doesn't matter. They say the existing signalling system limits the running of trains to every three minutes, so that is why i noticed that there were two trains in less than two and a half minutes. (So you may be wondering, how come when they say the system is limited to a train every three minutes, they can then run them more frequent? Well it is actually because, if they run as many trains on a line as possible, when measured at a specific point, they can only get up to 20 trains an hour (train every three minutes on average), but there are specific points in time, like this, where there may be less than 3 minutes between trains.) The new signalling system should fix this, and allow them to run a train every 2 and a half minutes consistently. (And eventually as frequent as every 90 seconds)
Nice video and Merry xmas 15:05 the V set you see as the C set approaches is led by DIM 8070 which was the lead car (and newest at the time) for the first official electric train to Newcastle on June 3, 1984. At 23:20 the V set which crosses the XPT has DKM8145, DKT9191 in the lead which were the last 2 cars ever built by Comeng Granville I believe, before they shutdown.
Trey Pohe You could always go on Great Southern Rail's budget solution, Red Premium on The Overland. Very good food, nice scenery of desert, hills and plains. Recline is good. Just not the same though as The Ghan or Indian Pacific, haha.
Other stations with names of suburbs that doesn't exist: Macarthur, Macquarie University, Museum, St James, Circular Quay, Wynyard, Town Hall, Flemington, Olympic Park (suburb name changed to Sydney Olympic Park), Victoria Street, High Street. Who can think of any more?
albert3801 I didn’t know that about Wondabyne - cheers for that. But I still stand by Green Square not being a suburb but rather a locality that incorporates a few suburbs. The station itself is in Alexandria.
To be honest, I've encountered many problems with the intercarriage gangway doors on the new B Sets. For instance, there would only be one double-door wide open and inoperational while the other works fine...
I remember doing some trainspotting here when I was very young, before M sets were even introduced. Thankfully you get a nice view of both some passing trains of several kinds, and the Eveleigh works.
Merry Christmas to you Phil. I see no Vehicle cars on the IP this time - usually it has two blue painted car carriers at the tail end. (I know coz I walked to it in cook to take a closer look when I went on it) :)
A Very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you Phil and your family......and keep up the good work...............would you be able to do a Vlog from Victoria St
Awesome vid! Merry Christmas to you to STV Phill! And I saw a B set in the Macdonaldtown yard on the 28th of December which was a hot day and it wasn't being used. They said better aircon, so why didn't they use it?
I kind of thought this station exists for the benefit of the workers in the train workshop. Erskineville station is just across the road which make this station nearly pointless. If you dig in the history of this area you will see trams used to run in the suburb with buildings in the old photos that are still here today.
can the central platform take the 26 carriages of Indian - Pacific? Also how would the locomotives swap to the other end of the train between arrival and departure.
@sydney train vlog at 5:32 that train is very quiet g'day my name is Dominic and I'm from Dubbo NSW Australia and when I want to go to see my grandparents in Penrith NSW Australia I have to catch the Dubbo XPT can anyone please tell me that does XPT stand for

The Sydney to Perth Indian Pacific is slow as a snail in 2:36.. When you put 2x speed, it's fantastic... LOL..
When i saw a waratah the destination board said leppington via merry Christmas
No
Merry Christmas, STV!

Correct, DKM8145 and DKT9191 were the last two V set cars. They’re on set V29.
Sorta like sunshine station in Queensland, just instead I can’t even find a reason why it’s named sunshine
Merry Christmas to you Phil and keep those Vlogs coming :)
Merry Christmas mate, will do :)

You've got STV as a present dude. Trains Galore! Merry Christmas
I wish I could travel on The Indian Pacific or The Ghan someday...
Its a awesome experience. I went on it back in 1985. Food on board the train was delicious

Trey Pohe Adelaide to Melbourne, vice versa. Runs during the day and weekly in each direction. Visit GSR's website for more details.

So Macdonaldtown got renamed to Erskineville and Redfern is in Erskineville... Erskineville's in Erkineville... Oof. Three stations in one suburb...
Ermm... I don’t know about that... Well at least that’s what TripView told me.
Oh okay. Interesting...
mPky1 Redfern is technically on the border of Redfern and Eveleigh.
Noice, merry Christmas and a happy new year!
