Guitarist/Songwriter/Samurai Born in the Manitoba prefecture of Canada, samuraiguitarist, Steve-san Onotera, honed his discipline under the study of the country's most powerful musical sensei. Bred on rock, raised on the blues, trained in jazz, samuraiguitarist creates incredibly innovative videos that showcase his talents on the guitar.
Here's a playlist with all the songs and videos from this video
Shirt's well ironed today, keep up the good work bro x
samuraiguitarist sad the series is over. I've really enjoyed it. Absolutely love your channel Sensei
Dang, that from the basement album was amazing. And ah, I also see you’re a fan of Always Sunny in Philadelphia huh? Same
You are clearly a rad dude man. I really love your channel.
Within 10 years, you will become a legend!
PIG SCROTUM REUNION TOUR
I would see that
Me foo
"Up For Getting Down" sounds like it could work as a pop-punk song.
No its obviously a funk bop
I watched all the "Reacting To My Old Music" videos and i have to say that i liked your early works much more than the country-popish songs you wrote.
Balázs Endrei Yeah pop country sucks but the first Belvedere song was good.
Igazad van
Same
Pig Scrotum being an absolute classic
The Velvedere stuff is actually really good. I could totally see it being on stadium country charts next to Keith Urban and Brad Paisley.
I feel like this series really lets me understand where you come from, both as a musician and as a person. I think my biggest takeaway is that they're no substitute for hard work and determination-seeing your stuff get better and better over the years has inspired me to keep at it and be the best musician I can be.
Also, Pig Scrotum.
I literally just came up with the catchiest melody I think I ever may....
Off I go to Attempt to coerce my other musician friends into helping my finish writing and recording it
Good luck
Hey there! Sorry for being random and late, but how'd it go? Did you record it? I would want to listen! 😊
How'd it go

DAYMAN FIGHTER OF THE NIGH MAN CHAMPION OF THE SUN MASTER OF KARATE AND FRIENDSHIP FOR EVERYONE
AHaaAAaaa
I'M THE TRASHMAN!!!!!!
Really awesome series! It kinda felt like we were getting to know you (like if someone had asked how you became a musician at a party and you'd just start telling your story, a guitar in one hand, a beer in the other (if that's possible))
Thanks for what you're doing! It really motivates an aspiring guitarist such as myself in a way that a lot of guitar chanels can't :)
Oh you made pop country... That's so.... neat
this is a very interesting series i think it would be cool if you hosted other musicians for this keep up the tight work
That sounds cool as fuck.
I second this
I'd love to watch domething like that
I'd still love to see that happening!
@@Not_Mii_Uus i third this
Never picked up an instrument until guitar 3 years ago wish i did long time ago!
The country song really sounded awesome! Reminds me a lot of Mark Knopfler's stuff. Like "laughs and jokes" from his "Tracker" album
Chills ran down my spine the moment "I wouldn't ask for anything to change" began!!
These three videos made me feel very good about myself. Thanks samuraguitarist.
Hey dude. I've watched a lot of your videos over the past few years. I came across this series this morning, and by the time I got to this one, I wrote myself a song. So thank you for your atory. I am a struggling bluegrass flatpicker and I'm trying to make music work for me right now. This was the unintentional, unexpected inspiration I needed this morning. Much love and keep pickin!
greatest series i’ve watched, so chill and interesting. so happy for you to see your progress over the years,
keep up the great work 👍🤟
This little set of videos about your starting and when you became a pro musician was quite inspiring to me do thank you very much keep it up
I'm surprised "Up For Getting Down" hasn't charted for someone. It's a perfect fit for today's market. Cash in on that mad scrilla homes!
I love triumph. I saw them back in 83 when they were in Milwaukee for The World Series of Rock at County Stadium. Ric played a half hour guitar solo. Triumph played with Foreigner, Loverboy, 38 Special, and Quarterflash. Ric is a phenomenal guitarist.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey in music with the world. I know it will benefit me as well as thousands of other musicians trying to "make it" in their own way. Your progression is awe inspiring to say the least. Can't thank you enough. Keep up the good work.
Gotta say this is my favorite series that you have done, it made me think back to my own evolution in my playing and it was nice to see the evolution of someone that I admire from their earliest stages up to the present. Helps to remind me how much we can evolve as musicians, and how important it is to not forget where you came from. Good job and good luck in your future.
Just out of curiosity did you shoot these all in the same day and change your shirts throughout the videos? Just couldn't help noticing everything in your place being arranged in the exact same place like that yellow cup to your left along with all the other things on the countertop and the little remote thing on your couch along with the position of the guitar over there to your right and a couple stray beard and head hairs being the same... very strange observation but its weighing heavy on my mind now 😂. Love your channel by the way, you've helped me out immensely since I started watching your videos.
Day man! Fighter of the night man! Ahaaa!
CHAMPION OF THE SUN
HE'S A MASTER OF KARATE
DR. Rock AND FRIENDSHIP FOR EVERYONE
I really enjoyed seeing you rocking out to "Up For Getting Down" in the corner of the screen. You have such a humble and nice character.
Up for gettin down is so catchy!!
Thank you for posting these videos, they've been an awesome insight of how you started out and how you reached where you are! Pls continue posting awesome content, man.
You're even a professional "Air Guitar" soloist!
You always speak with such confidence and persuasion. I think this could have definitely contributed to your success on here
Thanks for taking us down this retrospective journey. It has been fun and informative.
That’s awesome that you have all of those early vids and pics from your musical journey, Steve. I wish I had more of that stuff 🤓
Thanks for sharing your history and creating this series for us! I truly enjoyed it.
Been watching your stuff for a little while... found this series, don't know how I missed it, but I loved it
Would love to get another update someday :)
you look completely different in the videos than you do now
asian ted mosby
Wow @samuraiguitarist!! "Some things stay the same" is a damn good song. Mad respect man.
Man, you do a mean Scuttle Buttin', very impressive. I actually think it's the hardest SRV song to do justice to.
Have you ever thought of going into teaching? Designing classes and making lesson plans, etc is like writing a song and lecturing is like playing live.
I think you would be great at it with your passion and intellect. Hey, you also get summers off for tours, etc.
Maybe not now, but keep it in mind for the future. Cheers.
It takes guts to do this. This is an awesome series
wait, your name is Steve, i thought it was samurai, what the Helga man?
Travis Anderson I thought it was Samuel or Sammy, because he always refers to himself as Sammy g
I thought it was Sam too. His real name is Steve O --equally cool.😎
god himself I think Sammy G is short for Samurai Guitarist lol
I haven't been subscribed for long but these have been my favorite videos so far
they are so personal , inspiring and fun to watch
up to getting down is really funky and catchy xD :D
i feel like the country music is where you excel the most. your lyrics are very suited for the genre.
Thanks for giving us a peek into the humble beginnings of the samuraiguitarist's early travels.
This series is insanely cool and inspiring, thank you!
Man your an inspiration to me. I've been writing music since I was a teenager. And have been trying to do the same thing you are just different type of music.
Often wandered wat people did after music school, liked ur songs, countrys as good as most out now. Good luk.
Loved the evolution of your music but it was even more fun to see your evolution :-)
Good Series. Intresting Journey and not only you improved the mastery of your instruments, but on your hairstyle as well. And by that I mean the beard... way cooler with the beard you wear today.
I really appreciate you sharing your story. I am currently in the process of getting my creative endeavors going and to monetize them. The hardest part I had to get through was just understanding that skill is not developed and not static. I would see (and I still do see) talented musicians perform and feel terrible that my skill level is not at their level. But, it really is a journey. I recently have gotten a group started and am putting my heart into this stuff to make my passions a way of living. I also strongly recommend checking out “A Life In Parts” by Bryan Cranston and “Real Artists Don’t Starve” by Jeff Goins. Perfect for any artist to check out.
0:58 Hold on
A Mars Volta shirt?
I already like him
Great videos. Thanks. And thanks for your honesty. It’s refreshing.
1:28 Nice Ride The Lighting solo you did there ;)
DRUGS'HAVEN I noticed the similarities, had to listen to it twice. Still sounds pretty groovy
This is a good series. I relate to some of it fairly well, and some of it...I’m just not there yet. The thing that pops up in my mind, though, is why don’t you try writing songs just for YOU? You’re obviously better than good. Keep doing what you’re doing, but take some “me” time.
Thanks for sharing your journey Samurai. Playing in school bands is where I played my best music even though I sucked big time. But playing in front of your peers def makes your playing better. Especialky when theres a kid whis better than you at everything your good at for me it was a kid named Jarden. Man he was good but trying to match him made me better but never as good. Man loved those days music was all that mattered.
hey, man, we love you. so down to earth and so helpful. have a great day!
Better than my story, you spent years mastering the art and found any band you possibly could because of your love of it. I had a gifted talent for guitar yet have refused to budge on the music I made so I completely flopped
Yo that solo sounded great!!! Also it kinda sounds like the solo from highway star
lol dayman? sunny? lmao
honestly this series is worth a million bucks great stuff
Brooo I started to follow you on Instagram when you had the tele and Art and Lutherie Parlor guitar. I had the same acoustic so I thought it was crazy you had one too (I thought it was a pretty uncommon guitar). It's been great to watch your success since then. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing your talent with the world!
i love how he did a dayman cover from always sunny in Philadelphia with a flyers jersey
Adam is actually Andy Dwiyer.
Thank you so much for sharing :)! super cool!
I don't even like country but your songs with velvadeer are dope as shit
Thank God for music!
4:18 It’s kinda funny, that the only thing that I can recognize about you is that Telecaster.
Up for gettin down sounds like a country hit
DAYMAN! FIGHTER OF THE NIGHTMAN!
Your country songwriting is on point, man. Singers weren't very good, but the songs are there for sure!!
3:42, why are you playing the Day Man song from It's Always Sunny?
WHY ARE YOU NOT
Aaahhhhhh Aaaaaahhhhhh
really interesting and thought out video! can't go wrong with that
Is Sammy G the best guitarist and composer ? Nope, but neither I am and neither are all the people watching. (unless you are Hendrix or SRV, to which I take my hat down)
Is he a lot of fun and someone I would actually hang around, discuss and play??? FUCK YESS!
Music is about growing together as a community, even if some of our music comes from "dark places", it's all about the synergy of playing together and make our minds collide. :)
Wish you all the best.
Bruh you are good, keep on! You got that blues down
I really liked your youtube....and then I saw that sweater at 3:49 and now I know we would be best of friends!
I think Im at the begining of my 'transition years'. At least I hope I am, cause a lot of time passed since I stareted my musical journey...
Great I love your videos! I just started writing songs in english and coincidentally I dream of going to nashville and make it as a songwriter. Cheers man!
That stuff you did with Chelsea reminds me of Holly Golightly. Love it!
Up for Getting Down genuinely sounds like a country song that would play on Alaskan country radio.
Nice...I bet Rik is a great guy to hang and learn from...I'm curious as to whether you've ever done any work with or met Gord Downy when the Tragically Hip were around?... Those guys are one of my favorite bands and he was an amazing lyricist...There's a huge talent pool north of the American border and I just don't understand why so many people here in the States don't get the exposure to it, especially given the distance as compared to England...
One must fight the nightman to become a true master of karate and friendship for everyone...
These videos were so inspiring!
9:07 sounds a little like ‘39 by Queen, very impressive considering Brian May multitracked it
awww I'm sad to see this series come to an end!
Wow I just realized that was dayman for Always Sunny, thats awesome
Really interesting and inspiring stuff!
To be honest this was the first time I’ve ever enjoyed country😂
Up For Getting Down slaps so hard
Dayman in the flyers jersey 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
This has inspired me so much!!!
you're a master of karate and friendship for everyone
Thank you for having us.
7:43 dat song is LIT AF!!!!
when you start covering Thelonious Monk.....
congratulations. your already a winner.
Way to go Samguit - we all need to reflect where we've come from ;-)
I record all my stuff on my phone and upload to my youtube page,,,,a massive 5 subscribers :-D :-D
Keep up the good work my friend, keep it up.
I really like that I Wouldn't Ask song
this made my Monday :)
You won me over with the sky is crying.
Good tone on that Tele!
Always with your trusty tele!
with short hair you kinda look like taika waititi
Those haircuts have really come a long way.
Flyers jersey for Dayman. Nice
Nice Jeff Buckley type sound on The Field of White.
