I was THIS close to calling the garage to get my power steering pump replaced but decided to Google my conditions, which match the ones in this video EXACTLY. Went to Honda and got a new o-ring (orange) for 0.88 cents. What the heck, wouldn't hurt to try. Took about 15 total minutes, the hardest part was removing the bolt that holds on the manifold. Replaced the o-ring, cleaned everything up and started the car. No squeak, turned the wheel from side to side, no squeak. Nice and quiet. Still can't believe this tiny little o-ring solved my problem. I was so close to replacing the pump and wasting several hundred dollars. GREAT VIDEO!

Just wanted to take a second to say thank you. Thank you for a) giving me great information on how to see if I need this repair and how to repair it b) for no fluff in between c) for speaking respectfully whether I'm a novice or a car expert. You saved me several hundred dollars with this video and can't say thank you enough!

I just performed this DIY on my 2004 Honda Civic. Sure enough, The fluid was bubbling up and coming out the top of the reservoir after I shut off the engine. I took off the inlet tube and installed the new ORANGE O Ring. Ran it, checked it, and its fine now. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Good Karma coming your way.

Thank you! You just saved me $500 at the dealership for a new power steering pump for my 2000 Honda Odyssey. The O-ring cost me $1.34 at the dealer parts counter.

Great video even shows the part number. After watching the full video, I fixed my wife’s 2007 pilot in less time than it took to watch the video. My o-ring was stuck in the pump, but I got it out with a plastic trim tool.

The power steering on my RSX randomly stopped one day when pulling out of the garage. Bunch of power steering fluid came out of the cap of the reservoir and it was all foamy inside. The O-Ring was old and worn out; the advice in this video completely fixed the problem and my car steers better than ever now! Thank you for the video.

Just replaced the O-rings and no bubbles or overspill. Level dropped but topping off and steering is easy with noise going away. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Saved me money I was going to borrow for a pump. I appreciate your channel.

This worked great on my 2003 Acura MDX. I changed out the o ring and racked the steering back and forth for several minutes to clear the air that's introduced during the replacement procedure. I also drove it around for a few minutes and now it's good as new. Note that after the air has been purged, you may find the fluid sitting a bit low, so I topped that off to complete the repair. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and posting this video!

I did all the steps in this video and it worked fine for me. For just one dollar I fixed my car. In the Honda they wanted to change the steering bump at USD $1000. My god, it was so easy to fix it with the o-ring!

(edited): it was a crack in the P/S hose,LOW side;was sucking air in,with the same effect as the bad o'ring(with a set) you had.

I replaced every seal, all o-rings and the shaft bearing on the pump and it was a bit of a bitch due to not having a work table or vise. But I got it done. We'll see how it goes in a few days because I believe the steering rack seals are also leaking. Every pump seal was hard, deformed and brittle, it had to be done. The Low pressure connection o-ring was in the best shape but still needed to be replaced. No more noise, and very smooth operation. I only drove about 4 miles, we'll see what tomorrow tells. Not bad for 188k miles and now 190k by the time I did the repair. But the leaks were so bad that it looked like a large mammal took a diharrea dump on the RH side under the hood. Within 3 days the fluid would be so drained and there was tons of noise and the PS was not working but noisy as hell. I am suprised the pump components all survived besides the seals. The engineers designed it to keep it from running dry I guess. Because it looked beautiful on the inside.

In my case, I replaced the same O Ring you did and replaced the hose because it was old and cracking underneath, which cause the noise.
After replacing the hose and adding fluid, the noise was there for 3 seconds and now it’s gone.
Just some information: there is another video showing a second O Ring on top where the 2 bolts are.

First of all, thanks a lot for sharing this tip and your knowledge.
Unluckily I replaced o-ring and still have noise and bubbles (much less bubbles than before replacing it)
For your information, it does not make the noise constantly. Sometimes is does, sometimes it does not.
What would be your suggestion now?
I was thinking in changing reservoir and hose maybe.
Does the reservoir have a filter that could be clogged?

    • @garylew548

If you measure it with a digital caliper, the new o-ring is about half a millimeter thicker than the old o-ring. So it provides a better seal than the old o-ring. I did this on both my '06 Accord and '09 CR-V. On my Accord the old o-ring was very loose in the hole, so it's not surprising that it was sucking in air.
