This was an excellent diy video, Aaron. It was simple, informative, and direct to the point. Helped me get past the couple of stopping points that I'd run into. Again, excellent work!!!
Awesome thanks, makes it easy. Found a pump online for $69.99, used 2.5 bottles of fluid (but I replaced a hose and removed and cleaned the res as well)
Thank you for your detailed information on the install. I did your suggestion and added the inline filter. Also picked up from OReilly's. Only thing I did different was picked up pump from ebay, couldn't pay O'Reilly's price. Ebay price $54 plus tax and free shipping. Thanks again.
Aaron Hines, you're my hero! A month ago I had my high pressure line replaced due to a leak and because of access, I wasn't confident in fixing it. Last week the pump went bad and they quoted me $1269.43 to fix it! Having priced pumps in advance, I about fell over when they justified the cost by saying "the new pump is $1061.79". To which I replied, "only if you're dumb enough to buy it from Acura." Watched your video, ordered the part and fluid, and I'll be fixing it myself the day after tomorrow for about $200 total. Thanks for giving people like me the confidence to tackle this kind of job! I want to add a filter too but the store sites both show 3/8" ID and 5/8" ID filters as "fitting my car" which obviously can't both be right. Anybody know the actual ID on the low pressure hose?
@@chrisaustin4115 It was a pretty easy and straightforward job. It’s been almost 2.5 years since and it’s still working great with no further maintenance on the steering system needed.
My hat is off to YOU, Aaron !! YOU....Explain everything in Detail! Some of these guys on here, make one MORE confused than they were before seeking " DIY".help !! From now on, I will look for your guidance on doing stuff on my Acura TL !!! Say, do you d anything on 2001 C5 Corvettes ??..
Thank you for sharing! I'm trying to replace bottom O ring but the bolt is underneath and really difficult to reach. I'm referring to the 10mm bolt you are mentioning at 3:58. Is there any way to loosen the tight bolt without removing all the parts?
Look carefully at the threads on the new pump shaft- standard right-hand thread. The impact will take the nut off with you holding the pulley by hand with gloves.
I replaced axles and ball joint’s, my steering wheel is very stiff turning left. Not as much turning right I don’t see any leaks fluid looks fine, could the pump be done for or could that be rack and pinion?
Would replace if they're especially rigid like coolant hoses get as they age. If you have the money and want to by all means, but not mandatory by any means
Great video! Is it possible that a leak can be caused by a bad o-ring only? There isn’t a funny noise with the Acura I want to work on and the steering wheel turns fine. There is just a leak that happens daily. The car is the same you’re working on. Hope to hear from u soon!
Yes the o ring can leak which can cause the fluid to become low. I have replaced just the o ring before. It seals the high pressure hose to the pump. I purchased the o ring from a Honda dealership and it only cost a dollar or two. Let me know if I can help Any further
I replaced the low pressure o ring and no more leaks!! But I think the fluid needs to be flushed. I had to take off the timing belt cover to access the 10mm bolt under the hose 😬 and the bottom center where the bolt goes on the cover broke..
Can someone tell me if the top 2 screws on the top of pump hose are the same size and is the bottom screw bigger. Took apart and top two don’t match. Big and small. Bottom had one that matches top. Was that a lacy job by the last dude doing the pump
lol didn't fully help me since I knew how but aside that, I liked the video. It was good. I just came to see if you used a socket on the bottom 12 mm. Mine is too thick.
Hey man hear job bro you made that look so easy and described everything n every move you made so my pump went out a few months ago like within weeks to it went out really fast without hardly any warning it just basically started getting a little tight like it just needed fluid so put fluid in and it just really quickly got tighter and tighter to the point that the fluid just was not making a difference anymore so I am a girl I used to work on my Honda not anything to heavy r crazy tho just replacing window motors n my belt that thing was a bitch took me at day n the next morning lol but I am going to try my best at changing the power steering pump myself I am kinda nervous I hope your get my message n if there's any reason I have any question I can figure out myself would you message me back thank n keep you the best work bro oh one other thing are you sure Honda fluid is the right one I been always told to get Acura like the top grade most expensive for import car Acura kind and if you don't mind me asking where did you purchase the pump or where is the best place to get it for the best deal and did you know if your city worker that you get I used to be 10 but I think it went up to 20 or 30% off of any purchase at AutoZone nowadays just a little FYI
Hey buddy how your get my message I didn't know if messaging you like this would maybe help my message to go thru I wish my bf would help me but he's not good with working on cars at all at all lol
You don't technically have to use honda/acura brand power steering unless you like paying double for fluid. Using automatic transmission fluid is an ok alternative for power steering fluid for these cars and will work just fine for a fraction of the price. This is all just within my experience of course.

Pump just went out this morning before work , now I can fix it tomorrow night ,thanks brother.
I was really wanting to see you put the pulley back on. Other than that, GREAT video.
Straight, direct and to the point. Learned everything I needed for this job, perfect. Thank you.

Thanks man. Ya those pump can be pricey. 54 bucks is a good deal!!
How has the ebay pump been working? Did it fix your problem? Is it making any noise?

Chris, how did this workout?

@ChrisCormack you remember were you buy the pump

Nice clear instructions on the R&R of the Acura PS pump.
Thank you for posting this!!! GREAT video!
Great job. I wish all videos were this good. Thanks
You gave me the confidence to do this DIY... thank you!!
I'm a new subscriber to your chanel. If you could though show us the additional steps to see what we may come across. That will be a perfect video.
Yo thank you dude you don't know how much you help me out with this video the best one I saw
Hey how well did your replacement go?
Thanks for this video man. Helped me figure out my tl 2000 steering pump is bad..
Great. I also would have liked to the the pulley being removed, specifically how you kept it from rotating. Thanks!!
Patrick Patterson you hold the pulley and use an impact wrench to remove it.
Yea and how much torque to use.
U a life saver thanks 🙏
Thank you, very concisely presented.
Very Detailed work Process.
Thank u! Theyre selling me an acura that needs a power steering pump and i see how simple that is to fix
Well done . Covered it all . Thanks
Super helpful man, thanks bunches
Thanks! Good video, have to do it on my 2004 MDX with a noisy PS pump.
I’m about to do mines now. That was great
quick question, what did you torque the pulley nut at when you switched it over? Can't seem to find that info anywhere. Thanks.
Good clear video. Can a pump go bad but not leak? Should the system be flushed out when new pump is installed?
Thank you for sharing! I'm trying to replace bottom O ring but the bolt is underneath and really difficult to reach. I'm referring to the 10mm bolt you are mentioning at 3:58. Is there any way to loosen the tight bolt without removing all the parts?
You should have shown how to remove the pulley. HOw do you hold it from turning and is it reverse thread???
Look carefully at the threads on the new pump shaft- standard right-hand thread. The impact will take the nut off with you holding the pulley by hand with gloves.
@@mbasiletti do you really need the impact though?
Thanks this video really worked👍
Those pumps all it goes wrong is two (O) rings cost $ 4.50 usd. At your local honda dealer.
Big help homeboy!!
Thanks for the video. Why do you need to add the inline filter?
im sure you can get away without it, however the manufacture stated that warranty is void if not installed . so i did.
Aaron Hines in case pump fails you can get a new one for free if his warranty is voided his 200$ goes to the trash
I replaced axles and ball joint’s, my steering wheel is very stiff turning left. Not as much turning right I don’t see any leaks fluid looks fine, could the pump be done for or could that be rack and pinion?
Why do you have to use Honda power steering fluid? Because they say, so or is there a big difference?
Does it matter how much torque you need to use when putting the pulley back on?
thank you...... Betty helpful..mi Amigo
Question. On my 01 Acura CL type S, my power steering works until it heats up, then I have no PS. Does that mean my PS pump is going bad??
Good job 👍
thank you
Very helpful! Thanks alot!
Should you replace those hoses as well?
Unless the car has high mileage I wouldn’t worry about it
Would replace if they're especially rigid like coolant hoses get as they age. If you have the money and want to by all means, but not mandatory by any means

Great detail thanks.
The filter got one star, is there a better filter to get?
Thank u
Is the filter in the beginning of your video the correct filter?
How many bottles of power steering fluid?
Just one was enough for me
Did you replace the reservoir as well? I read that they have a filter at the bottom of the reservoir and over the years it gets clogged.
Where is the sensor located for the power steering pump??
Did the same procedure on a Acura cl it’s basically the same thing
What year was the vehicle in this fix?
