The only pressure I will put on you is to say that you should watch and upload at exactly the pace you feel like going. It's your channel, and burning yourself out, or trying to please every single viewer, will never end up well. You only get to watch Buffy for the first time once, so do it your way :)

Your commentary is very fun! You will enjoy this show a lot, I'm sure.
Two tips: 1. if you tend to cry in movies/series: have tissues ready for every episode. You can never know when you might need it.
    2. Do get mods to check your comments. The Buffy fandom is quite nice, but gets excited and tends to accidently spoil stuff through jokes or discussions in the comments.
And as many others said before: take your time, whatever that means! If you upload multiple episodes every week or one episode every once in a while, people will be here and be understanding of whatever is doable for you.
You can never make it perfect for everybody, so do it in the way YOU like and are comfortable with. ❤

I love the fact that you love season 1, because season 1 is Buffy at its most "normal". Season 2 is a jump in quality and identity of the show, that's where it really finds itself and starts becoming something which, after decades of watching Breaking Bad and GoT, I still declare to be the best TV show ever made. Buffy universe is expansive, imaginative and transcendent.

@@jspettifer Buffy (and Angel) is a brilliant show and absolutely seminal to so many other shows and writers, myself included, but I'll always put The Sopranos first. It's eminently rewatchable on its own, while I can't quite bring myself to make another trek through the entire Buffyverse outside of a handful of select episodes unless it's through the eyes of a reactor. Which I have, several times, and still find enjoyable.

There are a ton of ways I can tell that you're gonna love this show, chief among them that you love it already, lol. But the fact that you already like Cordelia and think she's hilarious... You're probably the first Buffy reactor I've ever seen who does. Most are too hung up on hating the mean girl to realize that everything she says is really funny. Later, when talking about Firefly, Joss Whedon described Jayne as that show's Cordelia -- the character who, while rarely very nice, says the truth that others won't in a bluntly hilarious way.
Again, I'm just so excited for you to see where Buffy goes from here. 2 eps per vid is fantastic, as long as that's not too much work for you. Take it at your own pace. This series is a bountiful feast, a buffet that should be savored and enjoyed.

The Mantis doll (mannequin? mantisnequin?) was loaned from another show. They had to return it undamaged, which is why they went with all this shadow theater.
This episode showcases how Xander works when he can't rely on others to get him out of trouble. He uses his environment creatively (crafting a crude weapon from a cage bar), he comes up with a simple yet workable plan (pretend to comply, use the weapon to temporarily disable the enemy, run for help), and he keeps his cool while executing it. It didn't work, but it very well could.

I love the shadow fight scene because it's also a very stylistic way to get around a practical issue. Not just the fact the suit was loaned, but also the cost involved in actually showing a fight scene like that in 97 without it being completely ridiculous looking. Especially since S1 was made on a shoestring budget.

Holy shit. Almost 30 years and I never considered the possibility that the teacher was a virgin! Impressive that you connected that.
Though I will note that he might not have been. The She-Mantis goes after virgins as an MO, but she does so to "lure them back to her nest". Dr. Gregory might have just been a target of opportunity/necessity. The rest of that attack doesn't seem to fit her MO, so that part might not as well.

Enjoy your enthusiasm with your reactions. Whatever pace you decide is fine with most Buffy fans. We watch for many reasons but the reactors that are genuine, speak their mind, and react with honesty are the ones most rewarded.
The times will give you more perspective on why this show was so popular with young adults. In 1997 , the demands of parents to have their children become super successful was starting. After school activities, sports, academics were being pressured by adults on children to be the best of the best. Common now but was ramping up then. There was a famous case in Texas were a Mother was arrested and convicted of trying to hire a hitman to kill the Mother of a rival of her daughter going out for cheerleading. The Mother thought that if the rivals Mother was murdered, she would be upset and quit the team and then her daughter would become a cheerleader. The Witch episode talked to us about what we were feeling.
In 1997 , what had been considered highly esteemed people were being exposed . The first priest, scout leader, and coach sexual abuse scandals were shocking the country. But we were most interested in the what seemed twice a month scandal of a very attractive female teacher (usually late 20’s) and a male student, usually around 14. The parents and the girls all were disgusted. They would say, lock the teacher up, how terrible and that poor boy. We boys would nod our head in agreement with them but on our own…..Why can’t we get hot teachers like that. That’s the luckiest guy in the world.,etc. Ah the way a 14 year old boy sees the world. So this episode had a relevancy to us that is lost today.
Hope you keep enjoying BTVS. The first Season is fun, innocent, and sets the characters. The budget, storytelling, and themes will change but you will enjoy because it’s subtle and takes its time. A few things to remember about BTVS…. All questions you have will be answered… not on your timeline and never exactly what you wanted. The final 132 episodes play out like an epic novel. Stories, plots, and events will toe in over many episodes, seasons , and years. It’s fun to try and guess what is going to happen but it’s best to take some notes, buckle up, and be prepared to be entertained.

Love your enthusiasm for the show. The bit I remember from this episode is where Buffy and Joyce are talking in the kitchen and Buffy refers to Joyce having 'Farah Hair' was a reference to Farah Fawcett Majors who was in the original Charlie's Angels, and was one of the most famous women of the 70's, every woman that time wanted the 'Farah Flick'. Witch was one of the better episodes of Series 1. Although S1 was a bit rough due to low budget and show finding its feet, it lays the groundwork for the upcoming episodes. Once this show reaches mid S2 it really picks up in every way, and produces some of the best TV drama ever written. In this episode the metaphor here is the 'pushy parent' who forces their child to things and is annoyed with them when they don't excel. The ultimate pushy parent, Amy's mum criticising her child and forcing her to do things she may not be able to do, then taking over her body. A decent little episode for early on in the show.

I love that the series broke from the restrictive mold of Vampire Slayer by giving her different opponents. Yes, that can sometimes seem like "monster of the week" but that is just as fun. Here you got two that are very different. Personally I like them both, but the Witch episode is so much better than Teacher's Pet. Season one is a bit bumpy in terms of quality, but they really establish the lore and the flexibility of what is to come.
Thank you for a double dose! I know these were originally hour long episodes, don't feel you have to do two every time. We will be here for the binge at whatever pace you want!

Fun reaction. Interesting that you mentioned that you like when shows leave you with suspense of will something come back. Joss loves to have running inside jokes and bring things back from previous episodes. Like "Our Mrs Reynolds" in Firefly. Teachers pet, while being a little silly, does tackle the issue of teachers dating students in its own Demon esque way.

Hi there! :-) I always like to leave a comment whenever I come across a new BUFFY reactor early in, speaking as someone who watched from when the first episode premiered in March '97. As you noted, you've already gotten some (and I'm sure you'll get more) well-meaning people encouraging you to just push through until the show "gets good" after Season 1. And I get it. Season 2 is my favorite season of any TV show, any genre, any period, from any region, ever. BUUUTTTTTTTT... personally, the people who talk about having to "get through" Season 1 are largely judging Season 1 against what would follow. As someone who was there watching at the time, I can tell you it was already well on its way to becoming a cultural phenomenon *during* Season 1.
Also, personally, episode 4 is the weakest episode of Season 1. So it's all up from here anyway! 🙂Seriously, I hope you enjoy this journey. I've very much enjoyed your first reactions. 🙂

So glad you're enjoying this. I didn't start watching Buffy till season 2 but the Warner Brother's network that existed at the time was also showing season 1 so I was basically watching both at the same time. You mentioned being a binge watcher. I think there are an awful lot of programs that I watched when broadcast that play better when binged. Long breaks between episodes and season-ending cliff hangers sucked.
I'd like to suggest a show that I've never seen reacted to. Grimm is like an adult version of Buffy, written by David Greenwalt, one of the writers who worked on Buffy.

I think you can play it by ear... when it comes to doing episodes in pairs or not.
Every season is different. Some episodes are a lot more eventful than others. Therefore, whenever you feel like watching or posting a pair of episodes, you could do that... but then if an episode has tons of issues you would like to talk about, it might make sense to watch and post those episodes on their own.

That's only true “from a certain point of view”. She was practicing, it's just... Amy's body isn't in perfect shape for cheerleading. Mom knows how to move, but the body doesn't follow exactly.

Like I always say, my hips and my legs refusing to obey the commands coming from my brain is why I can't dance.

@@gungho1284 The reason i can't dance is ADHD. Makes me a spaz. But it's also the reason i don't care and dance anyway.😁

Also, Amy may sweat more easily than her mom is used to. The directing really doesn't show it, but the script specifies that the reason Catheramy (Catherine-in-Amy) falls over is because her sweaty palms slipped on the wooden floor..

Came for the Firefly reactions and stayed for the Buffy reactions. First season starts and ends good but has some meh in the middle. Second season starts like season 1 but quickly finds it's footing and becomes great.

S1 as is always mentioned is weak due to its low budget, but it gets us to really know and love the characters, and 'the monster of the week' type format is evident throughout most of it. However, again it does provide an analysis of social comment, this time in Teacher's Pet we see how the experienced and mature adults can take advantage of the innocent and weak younger people. This time in the form of a mature female teacher who is being drooled over by all the teenage boys, and is using them for evil purposes, Xander almost being the unfortunate victim here.

I guess it was pretty certain that the original teacher was a virgin. Couldn't get any dates because he spent too much time looking at bugs? 🐜🐜🐜🐛🐛

Bug lady episode is probably one of my least favorites. Still watchable, though.
