@@StewNWTYes, the injury happened when he hit a forehand. Thiem said he never got the same feeling in his wrist again he had before. His biggest weapon was gone.
I wasn't watching tennis much in 2018 through 2020 due to life, so I missed prime Domi. This was crazy to see 😮 no idea he was THIS good before his injury and mental collapse.
One heck of a run. Every opponent apart from maybe one player, was a tough match-up for Thiem but he survived the barrages from first round to the final. Unreal dream run to his hometown title victory!
Truly awesome shot making from Domi blasting the ball from every inch of the court at every angle truly the most deceptive of all players in terms of where he can mask the direction of the ball he's about to hit and change that swing at the very last instant whether down the line or crossct pulverizing the ball and yet unbelievable touch on his drop shot as well and incredible Court coverage!!
thiem could and would have had like 5 slams if not for rafa and nole.no one but nole was beating him in the ao 2017 final and no one but rafa could have beaten him in the RG finals, also in us open 2018 he again lost to nadal in an epic match and if it wsn t for tht imo he could hve won that tourney also
@@VladRadu-tq1pg From 2017 on, it was really only Nadal that Thiem had to worry about at the French Open. Djokovic is damn lucky that he didn't have to face a healthy Thiem in 2021 or 2023.
The wrist injury in 2021 effectively ended his career. His comeback that started in 2022 has been a complete failure, he could never regain the control in his damaged wrist, he's lost his forehand, his biggest weapon, losing everywhere to everyone. And it was only getting worse in 2023 and especially 2024. He couldn't even practice at full intensity anymore, the wrist still hurt. So he decided to quit.
This video shows the forehand he had before. Thats what hes missing today
9:05 😮
He retired though, so today he doesn’t plau
Exactly. Interestingly, since his injuries, I don’t actually think his backhand was that bad, but the forehand was just a shell of itself.

Streets won't forget prime Thiem fr 🤩
Good luck in retirement Domi❤
2019-2020 was the absolute peak of Thiem, he was so fun to watch with his brutal shot making at that time.
autumn 2019 the time domi went god mode on hard courts
Dude was a beast. He will be missed
Less than two weeks after this he defeated Djokovic in one of the greatest best-of-three matches ever.
All the best theim for your future life❤..a talented player and a sweet guy..

incredibly likeable guy....
We'll miss you Domi❤
He had an amazing record against the Big 3

Amazing match against Diego 🎉🎉🎉
Fuck the injury who stop his career. That guy could have get at least 2 GS. 😢

With Nadal injured during the 2021 FO and not playing in the 2023 or 2024 editions, the winner would have most likely been Thiem or Alcaraz.
@@bubufubuprobably… that’s so sad. Would have loved to see prime Thiem vs prime alcaraz or prime sinner
Yeah Thiem could've at least 1 RG if he wasn't injured and kept playing with the hunger he had in 2019-2020
I started watching tennis actively start of 2019 when thiem was in his prime and he was my fav at the Time ! I Will miss him ! Way too short carreer
Who else misses prime Domi😢
only time ive seen thiem screaming cmon and vamos
I miss prime Thiem !
Thiem gave the Big 3 fits.
Happy Retirement 🎉
Also Diego is no joke, it's just sad that when players go down in Rankings, media doesn't show any light upon them.
So sad we never got to see Domi fighting for titles vs Sinner, Medvedev and Alcaraz. Would have been awesome!
I mean I wouldn’t quite call it “heroic” but anyway great video + nostalgia… as he edges on retirement now. Go Thiem!
Injury is truly a bad thing
Ufortunately, almost every professional player suffers from it, sooner or later. It's a brutal sport.
Domi😢
In the crowd I saw Andy Murray’s mother very strange because Thiem,s mom is not Andy,s

His playing style is awesome . Unfortunately , his physical body can't withstand that intensity .
This was Trime Phiem
Toujours la même cruche qui commente années après années...
She sounds kinda annoying :D

What ill truly miss: Domi
What i wont miss: that annoying woman commentator
