Operated the D8T for nearly 3 years on highway expansion on I-35 in Temple ,Texas! Absolutely love the D8 for its ripping and pushing abilities! Just wished that it had a slightly longer track frame. Overall a fantastic machine. One note of caution is make sure that you are in manual control mode when ripping hard Rock! The auto mode fully extends the ripper almost instantly! It can and has flipped machines over if operator is not aware of that function on a slope! 😢 One of our other operators found this out on a 11hr. Machine! Stay safe and God bless you all for the New year! From Oklahoma City!

Very cool! That’s some good stuff. One of my first jobs in the industry was running a D8N. Thanks for sharing and happy new years

There is nothing like a brand new CAT machine. I have had the privilege of taking several off the trailer and operating them. Just wearing the yellow off of the blade and tracks is too much fun. I remember when the City (NYC) bought 110 D8L's, and had them lined up in the parking lot, waiting for new blades. (Some were equipped with blades, and some would be tasked to pull Athey wagons, at Fresh Kills Landfill.) Caterpillar let the City "spec out" the machines, so they were delivered with 440hp, high RPM, V8 engines.
IMHO, the D8, is a little light, I like the D9 better. But, my favorite dozer is the CAT D6 LGP, with the extreme duty tracks, and the 6 way blade. That machine is solid as a rock, smooth as silk, and tighter than a frogs butt. The best general purpose, all around machine, ever made. Good luch with your machine.

D8L’s were impressive. They were close to a modern day D9. I’ve been looking for one to do a video on. They are getting kind of hard to find. Thanks for the cool story!

@@Ironmerchant The D8 L's were the first machines to employ CAT's new "folded core" radiator technology. Where the radiator is divided up into verticle segments, which are mounted at an angle to each other. This allowed Caterpillar to stuff more radiator into the same footprint as the single core radiator. This effectively eliminated, hot weather overheating in CAT machines. Our machines also came equipped with the ROPS mounted Air Conditioners. The Air Conditioning was so cold, that you had to turn on your windshield wipers, because of the condensation on the outside of your windows. Good luck in your search.

By the way, this is not the Next Gen dozer. We call it the D8 nomenclature in CAT. Basically, its an improved D8T without the T in the name. Next Gens will be out soon!

These are not a "next gen" machine, just dropped the T. The "next gen" machine will be out December 2024 and will have a very different cab to this as one of the changes

It’s hard to believe 6 cylinder and 354 horsepower can even move this machine

I wonder when Cat will get rid of that very annoying loud buzzer when you turn the key on. Pretty outdated and I don't see any safety reasons, or use for it. Unless you're blind. In that case probably shouldn't be in a dozer 😅
