Thanks for the vid….just shortened my spring, only 1/2 to 2/3 of a coil so I wouldn’t regret it….even that amount enables lifting the yoke easier. BTW, the torx are T10 .

There's a better way to release it so that you don't need to modify the spring: ua-cam.com/video/m2w64vaYfnM/v-deo.htmlsi=b4aW_EHUz6TgfSgP

I love your mod vids, I already sanded and dyed my scales, now I have to do the bronzing and spring snip. Thanks for the inspiration!

Looks like you did a good job judging from the smoothness at the end 👍👍

I don't know about the spring mod, you could have just loosened the back pivot a bit, yours looks too soft in the end

I agree. I wouldn't have snipped it. You are changing a fundamental part as it was tested. And made a certain way for a reason.

Cut way too much off that spring didn't ya?
I just tore down my new to me AD15 carbon fiber China clone down to see what I could see. Some minor issues, no deal breakers and I am pretty happy for the price point. I polished up the pb bronze washers. No plastic washers in mine. The metal on the pivot end of the blade where the stop pin goes thru has a small chip on the edge of the stop pin hole. I used a stone and a small screwdriver to hold the spring and filed it down 0.0085" which is not much. It did square up the rough ends of the spring and eased up the pressure on that bar just enough I think. I may take more off later but for now I want everything to reseat. I found one big deal. The 3 screws that hold the pocket clip on, I stripped one. Left it in place and when I got it all apart you can see where the lockbar is gouged by the end of that slightly too long screw. This would add a lot of friction/drag on that bar when you try and pull out on it. I got pics but don't have a hosting site to link to. I'll get proper screws and better washers in it, maybe take a bit more off that spring and if I like the results I will buy a nice one from Mr Demko. I really want to like this knife more than I do. Maybe these fixes will get me there.

I am curious how you rounded the thumb stud and gimping. I have been using a diamond rod for this purpose. Really nicely done.

You shouldn't and don't need to clip the spring. There is absolutely zero need to do it. The real issue is that most people don't know how to properly close the knife with one hand and try to pinch it. That's not how the knife was designed to be disengaged. If you want a smoother knife polish the blade tang but don't mess with the spring because you'll lose lock strength and detent strength which are both safety requirements. This is how to properly discharge the knife with one hand: ua-cam.com/video/m2w64vaYfnM/v-deo.htmlsi=b4aW_EHUz6TgfSgP
The thumb stud and jimping are sharp. The only other thing this knife needs is to polish the blade tang along with the pb washers and add a good lubricant between the Teflon and pb washers.

I like this knife, but the high polish steel looks awful with the olive green and pewter components. I wish it had a black dlc coating on anything that was polished silver.

What exact deep carry clip did you use ? I’ve been looking for one it will definitely make carrying the AD15 so much better... great video I’ll definitely make my thumb stud less sharp as well..

Seriously, how much noticeable weight did you think you were going to remove by drilling holes in the metal?
I think you should be glad that you could only get one hole in it before giving up on that idea.
You do have some good ideas, but I hope I never accidentally buy one your knives.
May you always keep bandaids and super glue close, but never have to use them.

I would get rid of the ugly jimpings, altogether. Jimpings became a "custom knife" trademark during the 80s, when hundreds of reputable (??) yet unskillful knifemakers used them as a crude substitute for knurling and checkering that is found on guns. Lynn Thompson probably thinks his knives look more sophisticated, trying to mimic this "custom knife" look, but the opposite is true. Jimpings are ugly to look at and rough on the hands.
