    I started playing the guitar when I was 7. I started with a classical guitar and after a few years of lesson, I shifted to an electric guitar in Highschool. My parents bought me a cheap electric guitar for my 16th birthday and two years leather, I worked an entire summer to be able to buy myself a real Gibson SG, just like the one Angus Young was using. No need to say that my kind of music that I play or like has really been influenced by AC/DC.
    So this week I made a leather guitar strap for my dear SG. I used 2.5mm/6oz veg tan leather. I tooled the first layer with a background stamp, cut the second layer, dyed the parts black and red with alcohol based leather dye. Once it was all dry, I applied two coats of leather oil, burnished the edges with gum tragacanth and two coats of Eco-Flo super shine. Then I stitched the two layers together with red polyester waxed thread. I added two round rivets to hold the last part and it was done. And no, it's not really me playing ;)
    It's a pretty simple build and it can all be done in a weekend.

    Awesome! I’ve had a design similar to this in my mind and I am going to start working on it. Nice to see that it’s going to come out looking great. Similar colors and design but a little different theme. Very nice work man!

    Cool project that came out awesome. I was pondering a similar sort of pattern with suede but I dig the tooled leather better I think. Maybe a mixture of both? Hmm.... Great video for sure.

      Thanks a lot. That was originally my first idea, but as I already had made a knife sheath like that, I wanted to try something new with the tooled part.

    And thats a heck of a lot of stitching!
    Did you do it all in one pass or sections?

    • @RedSmithWorkshop
      @RedSmithWorkshop  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks😊 Yes indeed. I made four sections. Two by side. One for the interior and one for the exterior line. With only one thread, it wouldn't have been manageable.

    Beautiful design! Perfectly suites the guitar. An other great project by the (to be) master of leather craft.
    How well does the belt work with the top heaviness of the SG?
    Did you play and record the music yourself?

    • @RedSmithWorkshop
      @RedSmithWorkshop  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you! ;) It works great. Way better than my old one to be honest. I wish I could still play that well...Maybe with a little bit of practice, but I lack time these days :)

    Just curious because I want to make one for a friend, what price point would you be at with a piece like this?

    • @RedSmithWorkshop
      @RedSmithWorkshop  2 роки тому

      Sorry, I don't understand your question. How does it cost to make it or a price to sell it?

    • @Phoyeloser
      @Phoyeloser 2 роки тому

      @@RedSmithWorkshop no I know how much material, but as far as hours to justify the cost. Can you sell a custom guitar strap for 500, 1000, just not sure what people will pay for a custom strap is my question....with the hours put into it. Trying to not charge too much, but also not give my time away

    • @RedSmithWorkshop
      @RedSmithWorkshop  2 роки тому

      Ok I see. Yes it's a difficult question for makers and craftsmen. I think you can't really go above 250 for a guitar strap. But less than 80, you would lose money and time. But if it's for a friend, you can just make him one for free. Hope it helps.

    What's the point if there's no liner under the strap?? All that unfinished area is just goin to scratch up my shoulder and all that red dye comin off when u sweat.. Cool for YT but impractical for an actual gig.

    • @RedSmithWorkshop
      @RedSmithWorkshop  2 роки тому

      If a strap with no liner scratch up your shoulder, you put a shirt on, toughen up or or buy a fabric strap with a velvet liner to play, but not a leather one. Many straps don't have a liner because it's not really necessary. I just adds to the price or confort people in need on softness. Plus, once I have dyed and dried my leather pieces and applied the correct finishes, the colour doesn't bleed. I've used this strap for a few months now and I never had any issue with it. Asking questions about a video you've watch is always a good thing, being critical with an obvious lack of knowledge, is not required. Have a good day and thanks for watching.
