    Making A Leather Guitar Strap (From WATER BUFFALO!)
    I've played guitar for more than half my life, but I've never made a guitar strap! Weaver sent over a nice waxy Buffalo leather for us to try out, and it felt like the perfect material to make a leather guitar strap by hand. We made this leather guitar strap with natural vegetable tanned lining, and the leather guitar strap is sewn by hand using waxed poly threads.
    Water Buffalo leather hides have a bit different feel to normal cow/steer leather hides. Water buffalo leather is a bit more soft and supple, and when tanned correctly (like the Crazy Horse hides from Weaver Leather) can result in a very strong, yet flexible project. I like this Buffalo Leather for guitar straps because it is worn close to the chest, and the break in period is much shorter for a comfortable fit on this leather guitar strap.

    Very nice, an adjustable guitar strap without buckles. I'll have to watch this one again and take notes.

    Beautiful, simple video, with no music, just the sound of the leather and tools. Love it.
    I just visited your website and realize that you are on Cape Cod! We live in Massachusetts and visit frequently considering the fact that a certain young man stole our daughter's heart and they live there now ;)
    Do you have a shop open to the public? I would love to come and see your workspace.

    You don't questions someone's skill if they can cut straight line with freehand.

    Nice job. I've never made a strap, but I prever the flesh side down as it keeps it from sliding around.

    Beautifully crafted strap! Do you sell patterns for most of your work? I have bought several of your wallet patterns but haven’t seen the strap.

    This is great, what weight is the water buffalo? I want to make one unlined so I'm trying to figure out if 5/6oz would be heavy enough. Thanks! Love the video

    Very much interested in your splitter. Brand, cost, size mainly what’s the maximum width it can handle

    • @Corter
      @Corter  6 років тому +1

      It's a Landis that's many decades old - really only good for strap goods and barely accurate enough to depend on for anything that's not lined haha. We just use it to split down belt ends to make belt keepers out of, they're way too expensive now if you can find one to make it worth while I think - better options out there!

    Since you won't buy a sewing machine due to you selling as handmade, you need to get you a stitching horse made to hold your goods while stitching. Sure would make it easier on you with the clamp holding your project so you can keep your hands free just for stitching. I still use mine a lot after all these years even though I do have a sewing machine. Handy tool. Great job BTW.

      Thanks for the advice! We have a couple ponies and use them sometimes, but we both learned a saddle stitch without one and have been doing it most comfortably that way for a long, long time :)

      ahaha, I am admittedly much better with leatherwork than I am at guitar - didn't want to subject everyone to my noodling!
