Making A Leather Guitar Strap (From WATER BUFFALO!)
I've played guitar for more than half my life, but I've never made a guitar strap! Weaver sent over a nice waxy Buffalo leather for us to try out, and it felt like the perfect material to make a leather guitar strap by hand. We made this leather guitar strap with natural vegetable tanned lining, and the leather guitar strap is sewn by hand using waxed poly threads.
Water Buffalo leather hides have a bit different feel to normal cow/steer leather hides. Water buffalo leather is a bit more soft and supple, and when tanned correctly (like the Crazy Horse hides from Weaver Leather) can result in a very strong, yet flexible project. I like this Buffalo Leather for guitar straps because it is worn close to the chest, and the break in period is much shorter for a comfortable fit on this leather guitar strap.
Very nice, an adjustable guitar strap without buckles. I'll have to watch this one again and take notes.
Beautiful, simple video, with no music, just the sound of the leather and tools. Love it.
I just visited your website and realize that you are on Cape Cod! We live in Massachusetts and visit frequently considering the fact that a certain young man stole our daughter's heart and they live there now ;)
Do you have a shop open to the public? I would love to come and see your workspace.
You don't questions someone's skill if they can cut straight line with freehand.
I guarantee with this level of skill he knew to score it first with a strait edge :)
That is an intimidating length of leather to hand stitch!
it was! Just kind of have to settle in and get it done, took almost 3 hours!
I did my first belt the other day took me 2.5 hours lol . I will be faster next time.
Nice job. I've never made a strap, but I prever the flesh side down as it keeps it from sliding around.
Thats one beautiful strat
Excellent job! And I love the little leather pouch you have for your lighter too!
beautiful strat
This is awesome I’m going to do the same
Nice work as usual!
SIMPLY AMAZING I LOVE IT, THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS FANTASTIC VIDEO
Beautifully crafted strap! Do you sell patterns for most of your work? I have bought several of your wallet patterns but haven’t seen the strap.
What size pricking Irons are you using here? It looks great!
Congrats on 50k! :-)
thanks so much! It's very exciting!
What is the white stick you use in the beginning? Plaster?
Do you do any work using thicker water buffalo hide??? I have a shoulder that I'm trying to figure out projects for... Thanks for any advice you can give... Sláinte
What ounce leather do you recommend.
Thank you for your videos, I really like that you started talking in your videos it helps so much
Do you know if this same style works fine for acoustic guitars or is it a different sizing?
Fourhundred hand stitches later! ;) I have been THERE!
What is the weight of the leather? are there two different ones?
muy buen trabajo , que largura es la correa y cuantos agueros se hacen para pasar la correa
What Ounce leather do you use to make a guitar strap?
This is great, what weight is the water buffalo? I want to make one unlined so I'm trying to figure out if 5/6oz would be heavy enough. Thanks! Love the video
WOW it's amazing 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Hi, i am bass player and this strap is amazing, i like one...
Play that one tune, you know that one song or the one that pretty lady was singing in another One of your videos? You Two Rock thanks for all you share!!!
Very much interested in your splitter. Brand, cost, size mainly what’s the maximum width it can handle
It's a Landis that's many decades old - really only good for strap goods and barely accurate enough to depend on for anything that's not lined haha. We just use it to split down belt ends to make belt keepers out of, they're way too expensive now if you can find one to make it worth while I think - better options out there!
Corter Leather saw a “cowboy machine” some time back but got no reply from them
Bonito Talín para la guitarra muy original lo Félisto por su trabajo tan fino re siba un saludo de su ser vidor
I wanna make one but I don't want to stitch something that long.
Where do you get the beveler sharpener?
First link in the description! It's from Weaver Leather Suppply
Hola, podrías decirme las medidas de la correa para la guitarra por favor?. Gracias
OUTSTANDING! Been playing since I was 10 (IE, for 43 years now). I've got a mint '96 Strat Plus Deluxe you'd enjoy. My home studio is right next to my leather workshop. #firstWorldProblems , 'eh? =)
What is the name of the tool used at 4:24? I didn't see it in the supplies list.
that's a pair of wing dividers! Weaver sells them, we'll make sure they get added to the list
so nice
Since you won't buy a sewing machine due to you selling as handmade, you need to get you a stitching horse made to hold your goods while stitching. Sure would make it easier on you with the clamp holding your project so you can keep your hands free just for stitching. I still use mine a lot after all these years even though I do have a sewing machine. Handy tool. Great job BTW.
Thanks for the advice! We have a couple ponies and use them sometimes, but we both learned a saddle stitch without one and have been doing it most comfortably that way for a long, long time :)
well done! so satisfying to watch... we hate that guy
Where’s the tune man! Play it! 💪🏻👌🏻🔥
ahaha, I am admittedly much better with leatherwork than I am at guitar - didn't want to subject everyone to my noodling!
