Some good advice here for all, when using welo opal for drop pendants. Welo opal will absorb oil from your skin and it will discolor the opal. If you do make a drop pendant from welo let the person know who wears to let it rest on their shirt, blouse, dress. Take it off when you shower. Also welo will take on tarnish from silver so use sterling silver when setting or gold. Just my two cents worth of what I know. You could have got your welo from me dirt cheap but alas I have sold off the last 4 kilos in my possession.😥
@@PulitzerOpal i have been drying water soaked welo under 15 watt cfl bulbs for years. Place light source about 2 inches above the cut stone and drape thin cloth around fixture down to table to hold the heat in just enough so it does not over heat tskes about 10 to 12 hours to dry depending on stone. Some have cracked but those that did already had a fracture forming.
I put a little nail polish mark on my drill bit just shy of the depth i want to drill, it comes right off with remover and you can reuse the bit a couple more times.😀 Great Video. The bore hole is a bit smaller. Once the prehole is established. Then a bit if appropriate diameter can be used to finish the peg mounting hole. This can be done dry as well. Kind of like putting in a power pull into the ground. Great video.

I figured I'd point you in that direction incase its a worthwhile chunk . I recently rechecked my 1.67 ct Ethiopian opal I keep tucked away and realised i have a 1.67 ct black opal with red color in it. I want to soak it in water to see if it is Ethiopian , but I'm worried the color won't return as brightly. Does that ever happen or should it be fine when it dries back out? If for some reason I have mislabeled aussie opal , what should I do so I can sell it? Its a cabichon already . it has one small flaw on the back and id have to show color saturation and whatnot , which it is farely Spartan in color density but what it has are vibrant and large spots.

I personally do not due the fact of how soft 925 is,and would not trust it to hold a stone of any value...just my personal opinion. I have been obsessed with rocks and minerals from the first day I opened my very own specimen education kit and yanked out that beautiful Asbestos piece for closer viewing....It has stuck with me ever since ;).....But in regards to Opal, I have never purchased one for myself because I was always told it was bad luck to do so. I have never found out where this superstition came from and I was hoping the Sheila might be able to help me out here. I recently learned that Ethiopian opal loses its colour if made wet. I never knew that. I’ll stick with my local Aussie opal. Nice to see Shiela, I’ve missed her. 👍🏽
Roots Gemstones it’s not for me. I don’t want an opal that fades away when wet. I’m sure that would give many people a heart attack to see their opal colours disappear at all even if temporary. It’s because of this it loses its quality & price tag. People should be warned about Ethiopian opal.
Well everything has it's strengths and weaknesses. The brightness, color variety and toughness of Ethiopian opal is unmatched by any other including Australian. It's said that only earl day Andamako opals can match the brightness. You just have to let your customers know. That's all.

Probably get stuck because the taper on your bit is too short, so the shaft of the bit which is thicker than the hole your trying to drill, gets in the way.

I recently learned that Ethiopian opal loses its colour if made wet. I never knew that. I’ll stick with my local Aussie opal.

Roots Gemstones it’s not for me. I don’t want an opal that fades away when wet. I’m sure that would give many people a heart attack to see their opal colours disappear at all even if temporary. It’s because of this it loses its quality & price tag. People should be warned about Ethiopian opal.
Well everything has it's strengths and weaknesses. The brightness, color variety and toughness of Ethiopian opal is unmatched by any other including Australian. It's said that only earl day Andamako opals can match the brightness. You just have to let your customers know. That's all.

@@KIRALYW Everything was shutdown here in Ethiopia too for about two weeks. But now things are opening up as they should cos at the end of the day the economic repercussions of the lockdown could worse than the virus's. And we are exporters of gemstones from Ethiopia.

@@PulitzerOpal im working on my Craft ....( shopping) the tuffist part is indeed the Opal i checked out Etsy shops including Maria ( AuOpals) shees dry on Ethiopian ...💁♀️ and i realy realy whant my supplier in the Usa for diff reasons...nothing against India or China but but...its to dam farr im in Canada dont whant to wait months...hahaha
