In my opinion, this is one of the definitive versions of Xavi! I love hearing Mike "Maz" Maher on the wah trumpet, as well as Zach Brock's solo with that cool overdriven violin sound a la Jean Luc Ponty. Justin Stanton's Fender Rhodes playing is brilliant as always. A+++
I saw them in Chicago in 2019. While I was hoping that they played Lingus and some of the other Tunes, they did not disappoint at all. In fact, as I reflect from that show, this has to be one of my favorite snarky Puppy songs of all time right now.
My goodness!! I never thought this song could get any better but it is!!! This is probably the best live version of Xavi I've ever heard so far.. oh, and Zach is totally killed it with his solo😁😆🔥🔥🔥
@@b0geman117 Already heard of it since the entire album is available on YT😉 It's definitely a much better produced and mixed live recording than this, though overall I just love the instrument choices and the solos here a bit more😃
@@PhilGMonte I did, they're good but still prefer the solo here. Also I just thought the Tiny Desk version sounds quite weird, like imo songs like Xavi sounds better in concert gig, hall, studio with huge space, or any setting where the sounds are better amplified through the open air.
Check out 'one word' from mahavishnu orchestras birds of fire. You'll hear a crazy call and response section between John Mclaughlin (guitar), Jan Hammer (keys) and Jean-Luc Ponty on electric violin. Zack is one in a great line! Also, for an epic cover, check out Lili Hayden doing maggot brain live on violin. It will blow your mind.
And the Puppy was Snarky, and the Puppy grew and grew. FZ "nothing but the best for my dog, see there not a speck of cereal, the puppy bites, the puppy chews it." If I were a really talented guitar player, I still wouldn't be able to play with this group. These Folks are really really excellent at what they do.
I'm guessing the cued the audience in before the song start. If you watch their performance on tiny desk mike gets the audience to practice the 3/4 poly then they go into this song.
I saw them live in 2019 - completely unfamiliar with their music. Had just heard the trumpet player had done some arrangement work with Steely Dan. I had the same impression of the similarities with the Zappa Orchestra I’d seen 50 years prior.....but advanced in technology by a half century - on steroids - amped up - Mind blowing musicality.
Well idk what more credit they can give, any time they play it or talk about this song they talk about how it's all based from Moroccan music and grooves. There are plenty of live performances where Michael League talks before the song starts about how its using Moroccan rhythms, so I'd say they give a lot of credit
@@senorfredericksen9895 Ok, good point. I didn't hear it as a polyrhythm, I just heard the usual people clapping imprecisely. Considering most people can't clap to 4/4, it is really ambitious to expect an audience to do two different time signatures at the same time.
@@zed9zed There is also the problem of every live recording - the claps of the folks in the back are bound to come in late, just because the velocity of sound becomes noticable at just 30-40 meters meaning a hearable delay - thats why everybody at a big concert can clap in perfect synchronization and you'll hear it all over the place. The audio engineer can correct that somewhat in post, but only to a degree.
You "type" just because you have hands... Snarky Puppy is probably the best instrumental band at the time. If anyone says the opposite then they're probably deaf or crazy.

Find the one for the homies in Chile on YT
It’s the last song from the tiny desk performance

Never in my life had I imagine jazz violin 😍😅😂❤️🙌🙌
Jean-Luc Ponty....starter for 10......
Michal Urbaniak, Don "Sugarcane" Harris, Zbigniew Seifert

This is such a good song. I think it's my favorite from the new album.

This band makes you want to give up playing music. How can so much talent be on that stage.
I love the polyrhythm exercise...
What the fuck did they do at 6:15 lmfao that polyrhythm shit grooved so hard right there
Jason(drummer) played 4/4

This is a Moroccan Heritage . We’re doing it in type of music ( Chaabi ) . All the audience must clap in specific Order.
♥️♥️💯💯💯😉👌🏾 LOVE
Hey great energy love it ?
Nice one.
This song is an advanced mathematical equation
Why stevie T playing jazz
Frank Z back from the death ?!

Mike Maher looks like Michael League’s cousin or something
Polyrhitmic claps of audience ...
IKR its sooo cool!!
falta el cuatro venezolano de Jorge Glem...
This is such a good song, it reminds me of moroccan gnawa. It’s a shame how they appropriated the moroccan heritage without giving credits to it tho..
i dont know if it means something but on the tiny desk show they said that the song was a homage to a moroccan friend

My self a Moroccan . SP doesn’t need to tell that’s a Moroccan groove . Cause if anyone enjoy it then can search for the groove.
Se Zarpan....
Drives me nuts to hear an audience clapping all over the place with no sense of timing. Sit on your hands unless you know you're on the beat!
They arent clapping wrong lmfao, its just a polyrrythm (3/4-4/4). League did the same in the Tiny Desk
@@senorfredericksen9895 they were getting the polyrythym right but they were rushing af at 6:47 lol
