    Great tips Jenell!! I've encountered setbacks with the styles you mentioned (repeatedly wearing them), but I stopped and started doing semi-mini twist and using Jbco to grow my hair back. Also, along with these styles, I realized that using gels and certain edge control products can contribute to thinning edges and hair loss. Thanks so much for posting this vid:)

    Thanks for sharing. I will most definitely use these tips. I have been wearing wigs lately and I have noticed a large amount of breakage around my edges. I'm getting back on my strict hair regimen for sure! thanks again

    You're keeping it real Jenell. Love it. I figured out that how I tied my hair up at night was contributing to edge breakage.

    Trying to get my edges in check. Uuugh. I have super thin hair and I keep on trying my edges! Haha. I'm starting to read my thoughts. Jamaican black helps a lot. Also drink lots of water, tea, and less meat.

      Your hair needs protein, so eating more protein like meat helps with hair growth

      +nick wrgordon LMAO! Honestly, if you can't handle tension then youre left with leaving your hair out loose. You can do a roll tuck and pin if your hair is long enough. You can also, wear mini twists and leave them hanging or pin them up. Updos with pins are great. You don't have to be limited because you can't wear extensions. If your hair can handle a little bit of tension like mine can then you can wear puffs every now and then, as you see me doing here in this video. Im not sure how long you've been one of my loves, but if its been the 6 years I've been on UA-cam then you know I hardly wear my hair in tight puffs, ponytails, and extensions. My hair breaks easily.

    If I need to protect my natural hair, I personally put my hair into protective styles like extensions and weaves I rarely leave my natural hair out as the weather in London and the water breaks my hair severely although I moisturise my natural hair, I just can't leave it out. What would you advise a natural chick to do if she doesn't want to wear her natural hair out?

      Have you tried "mini twists?" you can even do them yourself. Use your own hair. And seal in the ends with a heavy butter a few takes a week to keep your ends from getting dry. You can keep the mini twists in for 4 weeks.

    'We can see your thoughts' you had me busting hard looool I love your sayings!! The back of my hair line has suffered badly from Ezcema and has cut my hair its started growing back now strangely by me eating Spinach and moisturizing my hair everyday. I have to put my hand up and say that I am one of the lose ladies that has her hair in braids ...I did do two months without it but I was a struggling to style my hair as its so thick. I know my hair is saying take the braids out I will and try and wear my hair natural during the winter months. Thank you for the tips I have just order Shea Moisture JCO leave in conditioner and shampoo to try and get my hair back on point.

    No no no now of that! No puffs no twist no Marley no! Lol. Love it. I've been natural for 15-16 years and NEVER used Jamaican black actor oil or even regular castor oil for that matter. Where have I been? Walking around with beat edges!

    These tips also work for bald spots. Idk if this happens to anyone else but when I'm super stressed out I'll get a bald spot near/on the hairline, (not always in the same place) about the size of a quarter. It goes completely smooth, no evidence of any follicles at all. But I massage JBCO on the spot every few days and treat the surrounding hair very gently and it always grows back within a couple months.

    • @mswtaz94
      @mswtaz94 9 років тому +1

      +j king This is me!!! Didn't used to be though, just since being natural. Mine are about the size of a dime usually. I've had 3 or 4 in the last year and a half. The left edge left entirely. Wish I could do the JBCO but it itches me like hell fire and gives me hives. My edges always seem to itch after I use regular castor oil now too.

    I lost the edges on the left side of my head due to stress. My dermatologist gave me a liquid to try first and it didn't work. He then gave me injections for a couple of months and they are growing back. The JBCO breaks me out and itches horribly bad so I had to stop that mess.

    These are some good tips here ! We get what you should NOT do, but what is missing is how to wear your hair when you have massive breakage on the front. It can be a HUGE Challenge. If you have tips, techniques or ideas on how to put the hair in order to camouflage/work with the breakage.

    I think the root of this is expectations. People say they HAVE to protective style when really, you just have this expectation of always being camera ready, so you opt for extensions. This is not everyone, but this is surely the majority. I have yet to see many women on UA-cam or in person who wear wigs and extensions 24/7 and have healthy and full hair to their waist; and if it is long, it needs a hefty trim from split ends. Your hair needs a break; and not just the 48 hours before your next installation appointment. Many claim to experience excessive dryness and breakage from neglect. Everyone's hair is different. If your hair cannot handle constant tension on the hairline or anywhere at the roots, then wigs and weaves are not options. There is nothing wrong with the frizz that comes with first, second, and third day twist outs, wash and go's, and updos.

      +msaalxs YES!!

    • @heycandiandi1
      @heycandiandi1 9 років тому +1

      A lot of ppl are "natural" but don't want to see, touch, deal with their natural texture. So they go to protective styles 24/7. I wear my lil wig a couple times a month, but I also have a tapered cut that I go to the barber abd get trimmed regularly. If your natural and going to rely on so called protective styles you might as well still be relaxing. Imo it's just as damaging if you're not taking care of your own hair regularly.

    • @msaalxs
      @msaalxs 9 років тому +1

      +Andrea Johnson I wouldn't equate the potential effects of relaxing with neglect but I get what you're saying. If you (as in people, not you personally) never wear your hair out, then the last thing you need is relax it every time you remove the extensions and re-install new one within minutes or hours.

    • @heycandiandi1
      @heycandiandi1 9 років тому

      msaalxs I know that I'm just saying maintaining prevents damage and neglect has the potential of causing just as much damage to the hair as relaxing. Minus the sores and burns to the scalp of course.
