  • In this video, I explain how a (DVR) Digital Video Recorder for CCTV works
    DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder. It's a device that converts the analog signals from a CCTV camera to digital format, store the information into a hard drive and also send live video stream to other devices on the network.
    A CCTV system that has a DVR is not totally analog. The cameras send video signals in analog format and the DVR converts these signals to the digital format before recording and sending over the network.

    Please, can you do a video on how to terminate wires from cameras at CCTV dc power supply box (analog )?

      @LearnCCTV  4 роки тому

      Hi Cristopher, I don't have a video like that, but its very easy, you just need a centralized power supply to connect multiple cameras. Please read my article about this topic learncctv.com/how-to-choose-the-correct-power-supply-for-your-cctv-camera/

    Nice explanation. But where and when do you insert the floppy disk that you unpackaged at the beginning of the video??

    • @LearnCCTV
      @LearnCCTV  3 роки тому

      The disc is not for the DVR. You use it on your computer to install software and read the PDF manuals.

    HD-SDI

    • @LearnCCTV
      @LearnCCTV  4 роки тому +1

      HD-SDI used to be a very good choice in the past. On Samsung I used to talk to customers about the advantages of such digital technology that can use coaxial cables. Such technology is used even on Hollywood cameras (I have one myself) but after 1996 when Axis invented the first IP camera the market started moving to this direction and most projects were done with IP cameras and that’s the way it is today. People tough the analog technology would die in the face of Digital technologies such as SDI and IP. But suddenly a Japanese company created the HD-TVI technology that brought new life for the analog cameras, of course the traditional analog technology (CVBS) is not a good choice anymore but HD-CVI, HD-TVI and AHD took the market by storm and are very popular now due to the good quality they offer, specially because the Chinese company Hikvision embraced the Japanese analog technology (HD-TVI) and in Samsung we embraced the AHD technology. Today the SDI Technology is not a good option anymore for most of the project where we use either High-resolution analog technology or IP. Of course there are some application for the technology and Clinton Electronic here in the US is a good example of how SDI still have its market, but in Samsung for example the SDI technology represents less than 1% of the sales.

      @@LearnCCTV Oh I did not see this message. I have tried quite a few even yesterday I tried a so-called "5-in-1 hybrid DVR" that claims to recognise the majority of cameras it even come with cameras it was dirt cheap and it is going in the bin. it was from some company called Deatti. I have seen a lot of DVR's on display and the quality is just not good enough.

    Tiny little circuit board and no cooling fan looks like a toy. Should think it would only last two years maximum 24/7 I bet the video image is poor and live view slow delayed?

    • @LearnCCTV
      @LearnCCTV  4 роки тому

      There are different types of devices for different types of clients. Some people need a simple and basic DVR that doesn’t cost much, others such as companies need the best equipment available out there. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just like cars... some people buy a Toyota Corolla and others buy. a Ferrari. As a Samsung CCTV engineer I worked with projects that costs millions of dollars because the situation required but I would not use the same equipment in my home because is unnecessary and overkill. Some basic and cheap DVRs that work with high resolution analog camera such as CVI, TVI and AHD are enough for homes and small offices and the video quality is good and there’s no poor video or delay as you mentioned. Unfortunately you lost the bet in this case. It’s just a question of using what is necessary for each case, just imagine a world that everybody uses Ferraris or the latest Avigilon high resolution camera, it’s not real.

      @@LearnCCTV It all depends on what you have and what you are willing to lose. I personally have a big old bulky probably 11 year old Samsung HD-SDI DVR SRD-480D, it works 24/7 and it is like looking at a high definition flat screen television crystal clear image excellent video copy saved evidence to USB, 250GB SSD or a slow copy to the built-in DVD. All those years and it has never let me down. I reboot it every 6 months or so. It is considered old technology. The new little tin boxes dvr's i have purchased 4 all different brand names and I have been so disappointed with them i have thrown them in the bin. I have found out that new does not mean better. How cheap is your well-being?

    • @LearnCCTV
      @LearnCCTV  4 роки тому

      @@professormoriarty3005 Yes sir, the SRD-480 is good. As a former Samsung Techwin Engineer, I agree with that but I can also say that when the AHD technology was released, even experienced users like yourself could not see much of a difference of the cameras displayed on the Expo in Las Vegas and other countries. I've been in Brazil, Mexico, and other 15 countries and the result was the same, the cost/benefit of the technology is better with the AHD technology for most people and the product sales tell the same. I agree you need to think about the well-being but the fact is that you can have a really good quality product with those new technologies. I remember that about 17 years ago Pelco was the king of CCTV with no competition but things are different now. We need to admit that there are good alternatives out there for Pelco, Samsung, SDI technology, etc. Some people don't need such products the same way some people don't need a Ferrari because a Toyota Corolla is good enough. As a former Samsung Techwin Engineer, I didn't buy an SDI DVR myself because I think is not necessary since the AHD or IP cameras are better options. The Same way a think my Honda Civic is safe and comfortable enough and I don't need to buy an expensive car. Companies need to follow the flow of new technologies to keep competitive in the market. It's not a good idea to behave as Kodak did.

      @@LearnCCTV I rent properties in Devon and CCTV is not needed ever.. And in Essex Saint Osyth the village it is not really needed but the tenant can click to a channel and see what is going on. I rent two properties in London one in Abbey Road East London which definitely need CCTV, and one in Corporation Street London which also definitely need CCTV. And of course I have one myself for land and property land always has to have CCTV you are on your own with land. Name your best one for AHD technology and I will buy it for the Corporation Street tenant. Name a good one and I will see if I can get it delivered one-day delivery.
