Creflo Dollar, for decades taught on tithing. Thanks to God he reread the text in the right context and has now revealed as an anointed teacher of the Word that tithing is not required of a new covenant believer. I wholeheartedly agree with Creflo. I'm all for giving though. Enjoy your teaching on eschatology Tiff.

. At no time were first-century Christians commanded to pay tithes. The primary purpose of the tithing arrangement under the Law had been to support Israel’s temple and priesthood; consequently the obligation to pay tithes would cease when that Mosaic Law covenant came to an end as fulfilled, through Christ’s death on the torture stake. (Eph 2:15; Col 2:13, 14)
As Christians, they were encouraged to give support to the Christian ministry both by their own ministerial activity and by material contributions. Instead of giving fixed, specified amounts to defray congregational expenses, they were to contribute “according to what a person has,” giving “as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2Co 8:12; 9:7)

Thank You Brother Tiff Shuttlesworth for Your teaching on tithing. It's a Hebrew verb of consistency in giving Our tithe.
God has been blessing me ever since He Delivered me from the desires of using drugs 2015, and ever since I've been feeding on God's Word and serving the needing where I myself live. It's strange that God placed me to serve the elderly whom I used to rob for drug in New York city since I was 15 and now I'm 63. Wow 8yrs ago He set me totally free in my unit (apartment) too serve those I used to rob 40yrs ago. Wow. God's Awesome, Good, Faithful, and Omniscient. Thks.

Thank you for the questions and commentary. My responses follow:
Are Christians required to tithe? No. But there's nothing wrong with choosing to do so either. Today's version of tithing earned wages to a "church", or for any form of evangelism, has no biblical precedent so it can't be seen as any biblical act of obedience.
What was tithing? Biblical, systematic (God-required) tithes were taxes that were only submitted as consumable items and were specifically purposed towards the Levitical theocracy, the poor (every 3 years) and for consumption at the festivals (as they occurred). Systematic (God-required) tithes began in Leviticus 27:30 and were facilitated through ceremonial and civil ordinances under Mosaic Law that are now obsolete under the New Covenant (Hebrews 8:13).
How did tithing exist "pre-law"? There's no mention of tithing in the bible prior to Genesis 14 and there's no biblical evidence that Abram's one-time submission of war spoils or Jacob's contingent offer to tithe was required by God. Jacob's contingent offer to tithe serves as evidence that systematic (God-required) tithing didn't exist at that time or prior. However, there's historical evidence tithing was a pagan practice even before the bible and during. What Cain and Able submitted were offerings, not tithes. The two are not the same. The "first fruits" were heave offerings, not systematic tithes.
How did tithing exist "post-law"? There's no biblical evidence Jesus required tithing under the New Covenant or any mention that the prior tithing ordinances had been amended to include money as a tithe deliverable. There's also no biblical evidence that Jesus ever tithed, received a tithe or left any instructions on how anyone would do so after his resurrection. In Mathew 23:23 Jesus is chastising the Pharisees while defining legalistic tithing as something less than moral, spiritual issues. The Pharisees were only tithing consumable items as the law required at the time, and this was prior to the New Covenant which rendered the Old Covenant system of atonement and the ceremonial and civil ordinances such a tithing under Mosaic Law, obsolete.
The book of Malachi must be read in context. In Malachi 1:6 and 2:1 the narrative is confined to the Levitical Priests. Only Levites could enter the temple storehouse. The tithe indictments in chapter 3 can not be universally applied either historically or currently and none of those indictments had anything to do with money, although there's ample evidence money existed and wages were earned during those times (Haggai 1:6). The "floodgates of heaven" has nothing to do with money. It's a reference to rain, which would naturally increase crops of produce. Only consumable items were accepted as a biblical, systematic tithe deliverable.
God isn't a mob boss or a slot machine. So no, I can't agree that tithing is intended to release a supernatural favor from God. The Prosperity Gospel is nonsense and it ends up exploiting the very people we should be helping. There's no biblical minimum or limit to what we can give, but we are free to give, not bound to pay.

Abraham tithed on the spoils, Jacob said to God if you will bless me I will surely give You tith of all, Paul was the apostle to the gentiles, he does not even once teach any Christian to about tithing in fact nor does Peter or anyone else, I had been beaten up in church every time the doors opened about tithing, and when the LORD finally opened my eyes, I stopped tithing according to Malachi 10, and only tithed on the increase and the spoils I finally started prospering. The pastors all drive fancy cars and live in big mantions on the tith, while there are people in their congregations going to bed hungry. Took me a long time to find the truth, but today I'm prospering, and able to help the poor, and then teach them how to come out from under the yoke that pastors place on the flock.

In UK the poor get Universal Credit to pay for food but other Countries don't so these gifts has to go overseas I suppose. We do do Larders/Food banks so that will come from tithes also. I think Yes should tithe. (I used to worry about false preachers etc stealing it using for their own big houses cars private jets holidays)

As a believer of the Apostolic Church I was taught to tithe and so I have always been a tither, however, I believe that the Matthew statement is made because both Jesus and the young man are under the law. Paul taught the Gentile church to be a cheerful, generous, not grudgingly giver as we purpose in our hearts. I don't believe that Paul would think that these young believers would automatically know to pay tithes especially because they were Gentile believers not Jewish. I honestly don't believe Paul would miss telling the church something so important, particularly since he was being led by the Spirit. I enjoy Pastor Tiff's teaching, it is always a go to when I study.

The tithe before the law was not mandatory but offered. It was never demanded. Abraham offered Melshisadek a one off tithe from the spoils of war. Jacob vowed a tithe as part of a deal he made with God. A if you will do this for me then I will do that for you situation.

If we are New Testament believers. Why we leave out all the Old Testament law and we picked only tithe and bring it to the New Testament law. The bible say if you believe in one part of the law you have to believe the whole law. You can’t believe in one part of the law and leave out the rest of the law. This is the problem with going to Bible School. To many different teachings and we don’t know who is right and who is wrong. At the end of the day they only confused us with their theology. The best Bible School is the Holy Spirit who will teach us and help.

I don't tithe money- wise. I use my hands to make quilts, rugs, knitwear etc to give to worthwhile charities, such as Domestic Violence, the elderly, homeless etc. I do give money to some charities and to the Fellowship I attend It is hard for some pensioners to tithe, these days, there rent, food, etc costs have risen drastically.
To me the Lord loves the cheerful giver, I have given him my life and am now not into legalism. Most giving in churches ihad attended goes towards, rates , paying off the loans etc. etc. . I think God understands the individual ......🤗🙏

I'm not jealous. I'm on SS about $17k a year. Many of the others are about the same.

It's interesting how tithing as it is practiced today had no biblical precedent. As such, it isn't any act of biblical obedience. All biblical, systematic (required) tithes were delivered as consumable items within Israel and were specifically purposed towards the Levitical theocracy, the poor and for consumption and sharing at the festival(s). Those ordinances are now obsolete.

Jesus said I came not to destroy the law but to fulfil the law. So Jesus when he came is also under the mosaic law. What you mentioned about Jesus telling to the Pharisees about tithing he did not approve nor disapprove it. But what Jesus said about a rich man and a widow how they give their tithing to the church. It is simply saying that when you give , you give it wholehearted that you have to dig deeper on your pocket until it hurts you financially. What is wrong is when the preacher is living in luxury with his or her family while his or her followers are living in poverty. Preachers should imitate Jesus and his disciples how they live their lives while preaching the words of God. If the preachers has millions of dollars in their bank accounts then they are cheating God.

@@sandyjuntunen4088 Thanks for the feedback. Just so you know, money was traded and wages were earned in biblical times yet money is never required as tithe in the entire Bible. We are invited to be stewards of God’s creation, not of man’s creation. Every biblical, systematic, tithe deliverable is fruits, vegetables, and clean livestock. Lev. 27:30, 32, Num. 18:27, Num. 18:28, Deut 12:17, Deut. 14:22, Deut. 14:23, Deut. 24:21, Deut. 26:12, 2 Chron. 31:5, 2 Chron. 31:6, Neh. 10:37, Neh. 13:5, Mal. 3:10, Matt. 23:23, Luke 11:42.
Also, the first-fruits were heave offerings small enough to place in a small basket. Those weren't systematic tithes either. And Abraham (Abram at the time) submitted a one-time tithe of spoils of war in exchange for wine and bread. There's no biblical evidence he ever "tithed" again or that his submission was required by God.

Remember that everything we have on earth is like trash and rags compared to what GOD has for us in heaven.
