Tourist warning - Bali Governor to Limit Tourism Numbers

- Tourism Levies and Limiting Numbers, Bali government continues to crack down on disrespectful tourists and visa violators.
This is an important video as these policies are sure make a very serious change to the tourism numbers.
well said muzza you are true ambassador for bali. every time we go there we shake our heads to watch what they do with their disrespect to the culture and the people in bali. maybe the government has to go harder on these people and deport them straight away. keep up the good work see you in august at fat buddas for a beer or ten. regards mark
Local people disrespect their culture, place of living, nature and tourists first! Hence why people visiting don’t respect anything! They see what the locals do and how they act and think they can do the same! It all starts with them! Lead by example!🙏
i have never seen the locals disrespect the place and if there are those that do I can assure you these people are from elsewhere and not Bali. Blaming the locals for the behaviour of tourists, are u kidding?
@@jotstar16 idiot comments
@@jotstar16 Agreed. Balinese also need to respect other religions as well. Calling a restaurant Fat Buddha Bali is almost as bad as when Frenchman in Paris called his bar and restaurant Buddha-Bar. No doubt some Balinese and Christians would be unhappy if someone named a bar etc. after one of their deities.
I’ve been going to bali and all around indo since the late 80s surfing. Any time I’ve seen tourists getting to drunk and out of control the locals roll them pretty quick. As for the crappy infrastructure bali has,it could be about time the indo govt starts pumping back some of that tourism money they have been making for the last 40 years back into bali. Indonesia is a very wealthy country, it’s the government that chooses not to spend that wealth on its people and infrastructure
To much corruption
True my friend, it could be a nice place but they leave it as it is for the drunks
I have been living in Bali since 1999. Moved up into the mountains a year ago to escape the disaster that has become seminyak, kerobokan, Canggu, etc.
The idea the governor put forth to no longer allow Russians in on VOA has been scrapped. The idea of putting potential tourists on a waiting list has very little traction, and will be dropped very quickly. I love this country, I have an Indonesian wife and family, but the government is completely incompetent. They govern the way some people cook pasta. Throw it against the wall and see if it sticks. a few years ago, they made a few streets in Seminyak 1 way traffic, Mertanadi was one of them. it lasted 4 days until they canceled that dumb idea.
They are allowing more hotels and shopping malls to be built, even though Pastika, the governor before Koster issued a moratorium on hotel building. The only important things is money. Koster himself announced he had a goal of 15 million tourists annually by 2025. How is that going to happen with a lottery system?
Finally, there was talk of banning tourists from renting motorbikes and cars. That idea was floated around and sank within 2-3 weeks.
They have no idea what they are doing. So whatever they are talking about today will be forgotten very soon, as they concoct another dumb idea.
just wear a helmet, be respectful, don't drive drunk, and have an international driving license with a motorbike endorsement, and enjoy your holiday.
Excellent comment.
I rented a moped in Greece.
I fell quite hard on the asphalt, which did not provide the grip we are used to in western Europe.
I also saw the same asphalt in Indonesia, so I didn't rent a moped, but took a taxi.
Just use your head, and respect there laws and religions.
Your so unhappy move out!
Great vlog Muzza, the wife & I think if your caught being disrespectful, drunk/disorderly or causing problems you should be on the next flight home at your own cost & passport banned, no refunds to hotels etc.
Keep up the good work & hope to see you in August 2023.
You are correct Muzza if I have to pay a $150 USD tax we will switch our Annual Bali trip to Vietnam or other Asian Countries and we are amongst those that do have an International Drivers Licence and insist on wearing helmets etc as over 50 yo’s. Keep up the informative Vlogs.
I applaud the government to protect their culture and island. I had every intention to retire in Bali. But I’ve taken pause for the reasons you’ve discussed. As they make efforts to remove the yobo tourists I believe that will attract a more spiritual and respectful tourist that is more inline with the culture of the Balinese. I hope this is the case, short term pain hopefully would be a long term gain.
Love you Bali. ❤️ 🕊️
Same, Bali was on my list but crossed it off long ago

If removing alcohol will benefit Bali my hats off to your government, keep up the good job reporting to us all❤
Thx for updates Muzza. Visa restrictions for troublesome residents of certain countries will certainly help. The long suffering, patient Balinese locals complain every year to us, about these particular ethnic groups.
I will happily pay a tourist tax, and as visitors who stay for 2 months, am also happy to book well in advance. We are self funded retirees who may not spend as much as these other tourists, but we return time and time again, know how to fully respect Balinese customs and law, share our Aussie warmth and humour, and support our Balinese friends during every financial crisis. And that is why WE are welcomed with open arms while some others are merely tolerated. Keep up the good work!
I'm sorry mate we'll not come back to Bali if this tax comes in, we've always done the right thing when we've come to Bali, it's our second home and love Bali and manage to come twice a year they need to bring in responsible service of alcohol and refuse service to people who drink too much.
My husband and I are visiting from the US in September....thank you for keeping it real, and keeping us aware. We are excited to visit Bali and experience the culture through the locals who live there. It's a shame to hear how some of the tourists have been mistreating the local people, cultures, and values.... Hopefully something can be done soon before drastic measures have to be put in place.
Thank you sir, you are so kind to spread this very important message to the international tourist. I blame RUSSIAN TOURISTS on all these chaotic situation in Bali. Big hug from Flores island.
Yup, those Russians are ruining Thailand as well.. smh..
I went to Canggu a couple of months ago and the Russians ruined it for me. So rude and entitled. I agree with you here
@@fiona8773 Read the news !
Australian charged in Bali for asaulting local fisherman last week ! Local guy end up with 50 stiches ,so before you point a finger at others look at you own people in Bali
@@cheguevara5560 ua-cam.com/video/5qRn8FiYBQc/v-deo.html
I do read the news 😂 and its always the same, 1/3 of people deported from Bali were Russians.
I do not deny that some Australians also ruin it for others. Trust me I’m embarrassed by their drunken stupidity. I’m just sharing my experience, and I’m not saying you personally are rude and entitled, I’m saying when I was in Canggu the amount of rudeness I witnessed was alarming and it came from Russians.
It would be devastating to see the locals punished for foreign stupidly. Praying for the Balinese and a positive outcome. Thanks for the update
Well said Muzza, love what you do for the people of Bali!!
Hopefully see you in June out and about❤
Love the rant and your passion for Bali and the beautiful people of Bali.
Murray you are 100% right and I 100% agree with you . I have been going to Bali regularly over 30 years . I mainly stay in Sanur. The behaviour of Eastern European people is atrocious. I have seen them breaking the road rules and leaving places with out paying . The stress and the emotional impact on local business really upset me. They way they speak to staff is appalling. No respect at all . I think the only way is restricted visa applications. Hate to think how many over stayers are there . Something has to be done , seriously. We both know the real Bali. We respect and love and live by their culture. I have made some life long friends in this Beautiful country . 🐨🥰
" We respect and love Bali " Sound like it you speaking on behalf all Australians here .
Well everyone is aware ,that before those East Europeans come to Bali that Bali was favorite destination for Aussies , "bus loads " of bogan's getting drunk and acting like a idiots ,that is fact which is well know to anyone who visited Bali in the past .This is very Australian thing, pointing a finger at others but failing to see your own shortcomings .
There are currently 15 Australians in Bali jail / Kerobokan prison .
So seriously it is rather rich if aussie like you complaining about East Europeans in Bali .
News Ltd has obtained images of Aussie shoolies who come to Bali in high numbers openly buying drugs on the streets of Kuta in the past ,but you were not watching the News ..or living under the rock !
So keep your East European idiotic racist comments to your self !
Most of Russians who get deported it was for overstaying they Visa ...
NOTHING like Bali 9 story !
$150 won’t stop the yobbos. Will stop families as that’s a massive cost to an average family before they even get to airfares and accommodation plus $50 VOA each.
Exactly. Other SEA countries charge nothing and they don't have the same problems as Bali. Bali has always just been the "yobo" destination
Well spoken Murray.
It is unfortunate the actions of the few make the greatest negative impact and regulatory changes.
I would hope the individuals that disrespect and misbehave to these extremes would reconsider their actions and behaviors, unfortunately, throughout the world tightening restrictions and laws are made to manage the few “bad apples”.
I am also hopeful, these individuals will either stop or just stay away, but this is just a hope.
Keep up the great work, we need more people like you muzza.
Thanks Murray
As you know I watch your channel and several more from Bali. This is because Bali is my second home. I fell in LOVE with Bali when I first visited in 2015 and up until Covid have visited sometimes twice a year. I totally agree with your summery of what Bali is, a Spiritual haven, wonderful people, who are respectful of each other, and visitors. Glorious natural beauty from beaches, waterfalls, mountains and so much more. I love and totally respect the locals and all of the varied cultures in Bali and Indonesia.
I Pray for the people that things work out for them. I hope that rather than having to impose major new rules which might change Bali and have a huge impact on its people, they stand united and in force the current laws. I believe everyone should respect and be lawful of the culture and laws of where they are. I would much rather see people who are not respectful be punished and if they were behaving poorly even deported and not let back. I Pray and wish Bali can become a balanced respected tourist destination (possibly my Home one day) I enjoyed visiting and Wilde value visiting again.
Thanks for all your important informathen. There is a group of about 30 of us coming over in July. We are all in our 50s and 60s. I hope that will be OK.🎉
Penny for ya thoughts Muz
Having been to Bali twice in 6 months
I have noticed some positive changes in all tourists travelling to Bali and would like to send a positive shoutout to the majority of Aussies who have been awesome over there .The mindset is slowly changing and I think the measurements taken will stem the tide in time
All the best Muz
I'm Italian. Never been to Bali. But we have same problem in Venice or Rome. I hope that authorities will be able to limit the influx of cheap tourism.
Thank you Muzza for keeping everything real! You are a true champion and continue to show us all how things should be done to respect both the culture and the peoples of Bali . I truly hope that my wife (she is Indonesian by birth but is now an Australian citizen) and I are able to help you out both before we move over to Bali next year .... and once we get there as well. Please PM us if there is anything you can think of to help out .... and we will definitely be looking to meet up once we get settled in to our digs 👍😀. Thanks for the update .... Cheers 😎
You’re a bloody legend Muz. And spot on, be respectful, do the right thing, enjoy yourself but represent your country well. Kia Maia, Kia Kaha.
Hi Murray. Thanks heaps for the help and support you do to help people who want to travel to Bali. I haven’t got there yet but I hope to get there sometime to see the sights and experiences what Bali has to offer. I watch a lot of your You Tube videos and it helps to know what you need to do to make it a worthwhile trip to Bali. It’s great people like you that makes it a much better place for the locals that are struggling on very little money they make. Well presented Muzza, we are enjoying your very informative posts. We will be back in Bali for most of December doing a loop of the island on a scooter and will take your advice on board...keep up the good work mate...cheers Nigel and Deb
I’ve been traveling to Bali since the late 80s and I’ve seen how it’s changed over the years especially after Covid. I feel that the Balinese government should seriously limit to only quality tourists. There are soooo many idiots who think that they’re above the law and culture. Bali is my favourite place to visit and I’m sad to see it deteriorating 😢
RUSSIANS ruin everything !!!
And what is a quality tourist can u define?that? Things change and it is u who cannot adapt.
good on you Murray you are a champion , keep up your great work you do for the Bali people , I can't agree more with you,
Absolutely agree with all you’ve said Muzza. I’m also worried about the Balinese if either of these things happen, love your work 👍
Wow. Thank you for the info as my fsmily and i are heading to Bali in a week. I really appreciate the info. What a complex problem.
Musa you are an awesome bloke and your guide for all Balinese.

Muzza, you're a man that tells the truth. I've only been 5 times and loved the people and their culture. Can't wait to return and possibly catch up with you to help the needy.
Thanks muzza , your a top bloke doing your all for the bali community and tourism. Keep it up and see you for a bintang in July ML&R
Some of those eastern europeans were on my flight from KL to Bali a few weeks ago. The bad behavior started before the flight took off and at one point I thought there'd be a fight between them and the flight attendants. When we landed police were waiting with pictures of the goofs on their phones and took them away as soon as we de-planed.
Might be a silly question. Which countries specifically are Eastern European Countries ❓🤷♀️🐨
@@florence2095 Yeah, your right, it's a silly question.
@@dougbergman8631 Not that silly. There are 28 countries. My question was. Are there specific countries behaving badly . It can’t be all 28 🤔🤣

Thanks mate , great info again . I'm in Bali now & haven't had any issues . So far So good. I've got 2 more wks left until I fly home
Good on you Muzza a lot of truth in that. I was on my way to Bali but as long-term rentals had gone through the roof I diverted to the Philippines. Still plan on living in Bali in the future and maybe the lottery system is the way to go as over-tourism and bad quality tourists can be nearly as bad as no tourist. Keep up the good work mate.
Bali is a special place bro . I have friends there I sleep in their humble homes in the alleyways & donate to villa kitty etc etc . Big hugs Muzza your a great ambassador love bro I’ll be back soon . Thanks again ❤🙏💯

Well said Muzza I hope and pray that there is a change in attitude from visitors to bali , I love coming to bali and my time living there we never came to bali to go night clubbing or drinking to excess. We made friends that are now like family to us. My hubby and I would love to come back and live in Bali as it was a less stressful for our family even miss hearing the roosters in the odd hours of the night and day lol.
Cheers for the update Muzz, heading over in December for a month with the mrs and daughter. Would love to catch up for a chat and a cold bevie!
Well said Muzak, we love Bali and have always respected a countries laws. Have seen some terrible behaviours. Thanks muzza
Thank you for your update 🙏💚
Well said, mate. Youth need to respect Bali rules and culture. If they can't, the authorities have every right to deport them.
Much respect Muzza for your love of the island of gods and doing your best to make a difference. Been going to Bali since 1980 with the speed of changes and the different nationalities being mind blowing, for the better ??? for us the disappointment the way the locals are being treated, most tourists simply ignore them, they can’t be bothered acknowledging them. Hope you don’t mind me giving Bruce Pohlmann a plug, for those interested in Bali local government information he also does a wonderful job 🍻
Just returned from this spiritual land thank you Muzza and family for your friendship and love See you all soon xx
Thanks for sharing and the topic is very concerning
Let’s bring a $150 US tax so we can get upper class tourists, yeah sure 😂 it’s got nothing to do with more money in the pockets of corrupt officials 👀
I just cancelled my retire visa process and heading to Thailand. Bali is not as use to be. I’m will miss the old Bali and the humble people of the island but it became unrealistic expensive.
Tq muzza oz always the biggest support for the bali Tourist 🙏
Many thanks 🙏
Hi Muzza, totally agree. I live in Jimbaran and always say to everyone, if you do not hold a bike licence and or drive back home, Bali is not the place to do it. The conditions of the the road are completely different. Happy to catch up mid June if your about
If you miss what Bali is about you’ve wasted your money getting there - having a great time and a few drinks doesn’t mean you have to be disrespectful to the locals and their culture.
Go try that in Thailand or Singapore and see wheee that lands ya :)
Nice work Muzza - always interesting and informative mate.
Thank you for your kind words mighty warrior... Love to the family..
It's good and about time they have done this. For to long our own and others have gone there and been disrespectful and stuff it up for others. My fear is if the Government bring in all these strict rules all of a sudden, like you said they'll ditch Bali and go elsewhere if people are forced to apply 12 months in advance.
This is a joke. When 80% of your economy is dependent on Tourism, you want to play a dicey game like this? Instead of hiring more police, they decided to just ban more tourist & charge extra tax. You don't see tourists acting like a crazy person in Hawaii or Gold Coast. Why? Because there is a rule of law and there is good governance. This is just lazy governing from the local government. Plenty of Islands in Thailand & Malaysia are competing with Bali. If Bali continue to do this, they will lose in the long run.
Excellent update Muzza. Heartbreaking that the levels of disrespect for Bali astonishingly beautiful gentle culture has got to a point where government feels the needs to intervene. Perhaps they need harsher more immediate sanctions for those breaking the rules. This would initially be resource intensive and costly but the message would get through that it is not tolerated. And it would not be as costly as tourist caps. Anyway just some thoughts.
Muzza like the video but take it from someone thats been going to Bali since 1979, the governor of Bali has NO say in who or how many tourist are allow into Indonesia. Over the years we have had the ideas on no bikini, no alcohol, must be married to stay in Hotels, but Jakarta is were the the rules are made. I am back in October and will take photos of all the places you can buy alcohol in Jawa, Supermarkets, corner stores, Restos, no different than Bali(except no bogans). I only stay in Bali 1 or 2 nights too many tourist for me, so I stay in Jawa and will retire in Jawa, anyway if i stay over night in Bali I will try and catch up. Hope you have a great wedding, weddings in Indonesia are the best.
On ya Muzza, we’re back in OZ after a couple of weeks in Bali. Sanur and Benoa had a good number of tourists in hotels and restaurants but nowhere what it was pre-covid. Stay strong brother
Love the culture such a beautiful place not to mention the wonderful people. Your post is 100% correct and I hope they keep deporting the idiots that ruin and don't respect the culture I've been going to bali for 10 years now and love it.
Thank you for such detailed and honest vid!! ❤
Great video and very informative. More police stops would be a greater deterrent. I’ve returned yesterday and there were only two police stops I saw. They were pulling up those without helmets. I saw many tourists still not wearing helmets and misbehaving on scooters and bikes which shows the message hasn’t gotten through. It’s a complex issue dealing with misbehaviour but police on the roads pulling up those not wearing helmets will net some results.
Thank you. This was very informative. If visitors disrespect local people, then it's important that there are sanctions in place to ensure that the Balinese and reisdents can have peaceful and safe lives.
Bali Governor has no control of tourism numbers. He often mouths off but it comes to nothing. Laws and regulations are mainly made in Jkt.
thank you muzza for the update!
Well said Muzza, ! 11 of us are coming to Bali on 12 June, hope to catch up with You before you go on your honeymoon, we are bringing items for the school and for the villages! Hope to meet you and your family and Ketut! Cheers David Kinross and family.
We will be there for all of june
I have just returned home from a 2 week break in Bali. Although I really enjoyed my holiday, I don't think I will hurry back anytime soon. The biggest issue for me was there was an age limit on most activities. I am a pensioner and if you are over 60, you can't climb Mount Batur to see the sunrise. As I was travelling alone, I found it very difficult to find activities I would enjoy. I did manage to enrol in a Balinese cookery class which was very enjoyable and also went to an Inclusive drag show, with tarot reading and sign language lesson, but I had to find them on Trip Advisor. I also managed to see a Spiritual healer.
The hotel transport was very expensive and two thirds of my holiday money was taken up just trying to get somewhere. I did feel a bit isolated as I was travelling alone. I felt so sorry for the taxi drivers constantly asking if I needed a taxi. I only encountered one scam on my trip.
Bagus BOS🙏🏻
All good , it will work out

Big fella it’s all good it’s about time for the change as responsible people and older we have always payed extra to find better places and environment than the western and eastern people who make the whole island trashy so we’ll said and you’re not ranting your doing it with the right heart and head space
Thank you for the information
I'm there on Thursday cant bloody wait
You’re 100% right Muzz , flew back in on Friday nite and I actually think it’s quite busy atm.
But you’re right in saying any such restrictions will only hurt the locals…there’s far too many drivers , shopkeepers , hotels etc etc that rely on the tourism $$ and we know how bad to was for locals during Covid , there is still many closed shops in tourism areas , let’s tourists also means less $$ to charities that help locals too.
The simple solution would be to target the small percentage of bad tourists and make it harder for them to enter or deport straight away…let’s face it you don’t t see a lot of authorities about to stop such behaviour .
Imposing high tourist taxes / fees will definitely discourage tourists from coming and countries like Thailand and Vietnam will be only too willing to welcome more tourists…from Bali , Perth now has direct flights to the Philippines as an example.
“They” need to be careful of the next decision regarding tourism , it’s on the precipice and I’ve been 30+ times now.
Keep up the good work buddy.
Spoken from the heart ❤️
Very eloquently and sensitively put mate.
If we have to pay $ 150 us I will go to another Asian country Thailand or Vietnam Bali isn't as cheap as it was a while ago i really like Balinese people and there island injoy your channel cheers
Wow, that will make some big changes in Bali. I hope the strategy works and attracts better behaved, more mature tourists.
We have our next trip booked for December. Unfortunately I predict that it may be our last trip to Bali for a while. Bali seems to be losing its relaxed laid back charm that it used to have - too many upscale, fancy and expensive restaurants now being opened every second store.
Thanks Muzz..luv ya posts
Spot on Muzza, that’s why we are going to stay in Sanur !
Great point as the issues with certain European travellers and certain influencers have sadly made Bali a place of people not being respectful. Yea there have been some Australians (quite recently) seem to not be increasing but more dropping. I agree with the motorcycles rules 100% and I agree with the clamping down on the people doing the wrong thing. I believe it will be very difficult to apply these proposed booking rules to tourist, as many will just go elsewhere. Bali has always been a wonderful holiday destination for Aussies which may actually push tourists to Malaysia, Thailand and other Asian destinations. Will be interesting to see what happens🙏
Very simple. Too many rules will push people away. Respect 100%. Ps. The world is changing. There is no perfect. There is a solution. Many solutions. Positive solutions. Fair solutions. Respect respect respect.
i totally agree with ur view points and I fully support the Indonesian and Balinese authorities in their plans to better manage the influx and quality of tourists entering Bali. Itis the most unique island in the world and sadly for all it’s rich culture and deep spirituality, it has become more famous for cheap booze and drunken behaviour. And at the moment it’s the Russians and East Europeans who are trashing the island using their cash and bad attitude to ruin the island. Laws should be stricter and punishment should be swift for thosewho think they can just go there and disrespect the people and it’s culture. I’m so sick of it. Yes restrict the numbers and manage the entry better of touriss and impose a standard of behaviour and respectability so that they can keep outthe trash from infecting the island. #savebali
Thanks y for info
Thanks for yet another great insight into what’s going on. You have spoken about people being deported for disrespectful and illegal actions, are the Indonesian government also placing a future ban on these people. I think that if you are arrested for any indiscretion you should receive an immediate 10 year ban from entering Indonesia. Maybe this will make people think more about their actions.
As a Bali resident, I am for these regulations. There are too many tourists here. and even though Bali's economy heavily relies on tourism, it would be healthy for the island to give it some breathing room and recover.

I hope that the governor thinks about the people of Bali and the economy first. Here in Aotearoa NZ we look at Bali as a holiday destination and I hope my people do behave and respect the culture just like my culture here.
My mate works at a well known motel in Legian where lots of tribal NZ people stay & they are the worst for breaking the toilets off the floor and or bogging them. She said, Management are at a stage where they want to ban them from staying. Breakfast time in Bali is suppose to be a culture quiet time to spend with family before heading out for the day & she said at breakfast they are pigs that sound like roosters is the translation.
Suksma Waz! Been coming to Bali almost yearly since the late 90s. Non drinker. Might have gone to a club 3-4 times in 25 years. The Bali i experience as a non-drinker seems vastly different to the problems that have been increasing year upon yeat. It is a profoundly spiritual place and it's culture needs to be protected. Hate the yobbos that have always been there but seem to be multiplying and getting packed in like a school of fish lately. Every rice paddy being filled in for more gentrified villas. My next trip there is this weekend and i;m more wary than i've ever been. Very curious how this will play out - I pray for the locals sake they find small business friendly solutions.
