Improvising around the chords and melody is what makes Bluegrass so exciting.... and challenging. Not just playing the same notes over and over by rote.
They literally all solo’d around the melody the entire song what the hell are you talking about? How boring would bluegrass be if they just played the exact melody over and over? Bill Monroe himself didn’t do that.
agreed. I typically love billy but I believe they failed to capture the essence of th esong with this one. I am not saying they didnt play well....just missed the mark on the feeling of it.
Bluegrass is in fine hands for another generation. Hope I’m around for another 20 years just to see how good these guys are then.

People don't tell jazz musicians "Why dont they just play the right notes!"..I venture its the same for bluegrass.
