This song was a huge hit. A little background on the song and the video: The song samples Van Halen's song "Jamie's Crying", the girl band in the video was a take off of three Robert Palmer videos that featured a girl band and were very successful, and the woman he was admiring, not one of the girl's in the band but, the other one, is actress Tracy Camilla Johns, who starred in Spike Lee's first movie, "She's Gotta Have It."

Back when there was some humour in music. The 80’s were so much fun. Check out his other hit Funky Cold Medina, it’s about a drink that makes women horny. 😆
Will Smith also started his career with humorous rap songs like Parents Just Don’t Understand or Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble.

A very wild reaction 🤭! He's from LA and still performs live on stage. I see 👁👁 you have reacted to Tone Lōc before: Funky Cold Medina and We're All In The Same Gang. Wild Thing was the lead single released Tone Lōc's 1989 debut album: Lōc'ed After Dark. It was written by Tone Lōc, Young MC,Matt Dike and Michael Ross. It was produced by Matt Dike and Michael Ross. It sampled: Jamie's Cryin' by Van Halen (1978), Rocky Racoon Tribute by Raquel (1970), Movie Trailer for She's Gotta Have It (1986) and The Dogs from She's Gotta Have It (1986).
The song reached #1 on the Dance chart, #2 on the Rap chart, #2 on the Hot 100 and #3 on the R&B chart. It sold two million copies and was the first Rap single to be certified Platinum. His 1989 song: "Funky Cold Medina", was the second Rap single to be certified Platinum. The single was also the first Rap song by a Black artist to crossover to Pop radio and second Rap song overall. In 1988, The Beastie Boys crossed over to Pop radio with their Rap song: "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)".
The music video was directed by Tamra Davis and featured actress Tracy Camilla Johns (She's Gotta Have It, Mo' Better Blues, New Jack City). The music video was based on a music video that you have reacted to before: Robert Palmer - Addicted To Love.
"Wild Thing" is slang for sex. It was a popular and benign euphemism with young people in the late 1980s. Arsenio Hall also used the phrase on his late night talk show whenever he needed to talk about sex without arousing the TV censors. Tone Lōc, got the idea for the song after watching the 1986 Spike Lee film: She's Gotta Have It, where YO! MTV Rap host Fab 5 Freddy tells a woman, "Let's do the wild thing!".
Tone Lōc does four verses on the song, each describing an encounter with a lovely lady. The first three end in the wild thing, but the last one doesn't, as he finds out she's a prostitute. He sends her off, telling her: "Hasta la vista, baby". This cold goodbye became Arnold Schwarzenegger's catch phrase in the 1991 film: "Terminator 2: Judgment Day", but Tone Loc wasn't the first to put it in a popular song: Jody Watley said it in her 1987 hit song: "Looking For A New Love".
The original set of lyrics that Tone Lōc wrote for this song were far more lustful, he says it was about "straight having sex on the beach". To improve the song's mainstream radio hit potential, Tone Loc's bosses at Delicious Vinyl Records convinced him to, ahem: "tone" it down. The song is still very sexual, but with enough ambiguity and comedy to pass the censor tests of the mainstream radio station decision makers.
The song uses a sample of Van Halen's 1978 song: "Jamie's Cryin'". Van Halen's management at the time asked for a flat fee credited in some reports to be $5,000, as payment to have the song sampled by Tone Lōc. Apparently, the sampling decision was made without consulting the band's original members who co-wrote the song. They had no idea that the song: "Wild Thing", would become a major hit. A subsequent civil lawsuit was settled out of court, with Van Halen receiving $180,000 as a settlement payment. Alex Van Halen concerning the settlement said: "Well, at least we got something. Tone Lōc and his people made millions out of it...".
"Wild Thing (Peaches Remix)" from 2007 is a cover version of Tone Lōc's 1989 song: "Wild Thing". The song featured vocals by Tone Lōc and Peaches herself. The remix was made to celebrate Delicious Vinyl's 20th anniversary. It peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Sales. The music video for the song shows Peaches and Tone Lōc performing live at the Hollywood nightclub AVALON during the celebration event of the 20th anniversary of Delicious Vinyl.
In 2016, Tone Lōc said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly: "I think it's a great stepping-stone for Hip-Hop"... "It opened the door for a lot more listeners, a lot more white listeners. It changed a lot of Hip-Hop".
The song is featured in the 2012 video game 🎮: The Darkness II.
The song has been featured in some TV shows-TV Movies including 📺: Sex Education ("Episode 6" - 2019), Cavemen ("Pilot" - 2007), Totally Awesome (2006), Dark Angel ("Proof Of Purchase" - 2001), Chicago Hope ("Higher Powers" - 1996 and "Small Sacrifices" -1995), Doogie Howser MD ("Pilot" - 1990), Midnight Caller ("The Fall" - 1989) and more.
The song has been sampled by other artists including 💽: Black Eyed Peas ("My Humps" - 2005), Enigma ("Voyageur" - 2003), Fatlip ("Goldmine" - 2000), Sir Mix-A-Lot ("Testarossa" - 1992), Angela Winbush ("It's A Real Thing" - 1989), Mamado & She ("I'm Your Wild Thing" - 1989), Cheryl Lynn ("Upset" - 1989), Success N Effect ("Roll It Up" Remix - 1989) and more.
The song has been featured in some films-documentaries including 📽: The Angry Birds Movie (2016), Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son (2013), American Cowslip (2009), Obsessed (2009), The Wedding Weekend (2006), Rising Son: The Legend Of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi (2006), Garfield: The Movie (2004), Taxi (2004), Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003), Dark Blue (2002), The Animal (2001), Bedazzled (2000), Amongst Friends (1993), Uncle Buck (1989) and more.
Weird Al Yankovic wrote a parody of this song called 📻: "Isle Thing", which is about the show Gilligan's Island and can be found on his 1989 album: UHF - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack And Other Stuff.
    Legacy 🛡:
In 2008, "Wild Thing" was ranked #39 on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop".
    Lyrics 🗒:
    Let's do it
Workin' all week, 9 to 5 for my money
So when the weekend comes I go get live with the honey
Rollin' down the street, I saw this girl and she was pumpin'
I winked my eye, she got into the ride, went to a club, was jumpin'
Introduce myself as Loc, she said, "You're a liar"
I said, "I got it goin' on, baby doll, and I'm on fire"
Took her to the hotel, she said, "You're the king"
I said, "Well, be my queen if you know what I mean, and lets do the wild thing"
    Wild thing
    Wild thing
Shoppin' at the mall looking for some gear to buy
I saw this girl, she gon' rock my world, and I had to adjust my fly
She looked at me and smiled and said, "You have plans for the night?"
I said, "Hopefully, if things go well, I'll be with you tonight"
So we journeyed to her house, one thing led to an other
I key in the door, I cold hit the floor, looked up and it was her mother
I didn't know what to say, I was hangin' by a string
She said, "Hey, you two, I was once like you, and I liked to do the wild thing"
    Wild thing
She loved to do the wild thing
    Wild thing
    Please, baby, baby, please
Posse in effect, hangin' out is always hype
And when me and the crew leave the shindig, I want a girl who's just my type
Saw this luscious little frame, I ain't lyin', fellas, she was fine
This sweet young miss cold gave me a kiss and I knew that she was mine
Took her to the limousine, it's still parked outside
I tipped the chauffeur when it was over and I gave her my own ride
Couldn't get her off my jock, she was like static cling
But that's what happens when body start slappin' from doin' the wild thing
    Wild thing
She wanna do the wild thing
    Please, baby, baby, please
    Wild thing
Doin' a little show at the local discotheque
This fine young chick was on my jock, so I said what the heck
She wanted to come on stage and do her little dance
So I said, "Chill for now, but maybe later, you'll get your chance"
So when the show was finished I took her around the way
And what do you know, she was good to go without a word to say
We was all alone and she said, "Tone, let me tell you one thing
I need fifty dollars to make you holler, I get paid to do the wild thing"
    Say what?
Yo love, you must be kidding
    You're walkin', babe
    Just break out of here
    Hasta la vista, baby
    Wild thing
