“Showed the Dangers of going of line” ya that’s the point of it.
Pierre R Going slightly off line shouldn’t mean you automatically crash
ThatOneGuyJp he drove through the corner dawg
@@JpForrReal so... if someone goes slightly off line at Monaco and it makes them hit a wall should the wall be removed? Racing is all about weighing risk and reward then paying the consequences if you get a bit too greedy imo
@Jason Galloway Nah man, not the same at all. A wall on the side of a corner vs kerbs that are apart of the corner which the driver has to use to keep momentum.
No one’s car should launch into the wall after barely touching the kerb on a chicane, where there weren’t many overtakes anyway.
@@USMCLP got ya remove kerb put in giant wall along edge of chicane
That chicane sure had the Maldonado seal of approval
hell yeah it did
Pastor Maldonado hey pastor could you crash an F1 car for me please
We have now to Palmer and Lance Cra$htroll :v
Hum...when did he crash except in the pre-opening practice? Because i don't know if you realize but you just insulted my national hero...so i'm gonna insult yours. Alenginegonzo (A pun with Alonso and all engine gone.)
Grumpy Cat When did Stroll crash?...
shouldnt curbs and turns like that define who a better driver is and stay in the race?
It's really expensive when F1 cars crash so it's probably not worth it to have such a dangerous chicane in the track. You always have to keep in mind that someone has to pay for all this.
@@C0ntr3y yes but based on how much they earn from the races, there's really no point to this. Its like saying the rally should be in a controlled safe environment because the rally tracks are dangerous and can cause damage to the cars.
Yes but this one was barely wide enough then, and definitely wouldn’t be wide enough now. Also, limited the amount of racing you can do on an already racing limited circuit.
@@Dr.Firangi the people working on these regulations probably know what's best. This chicane was obviously not worth it.
Nope cuz it destroys cars
That one time your rally car can go through a turn faster than an F1 car.
One time? What about every dirt/snow track?
@Gabriel Sorry Gabriel but some guys with a coffin took your off-road tyres.
@Gabriel It's all part of the Mercedes masterplan
Different sport
Nah f1 cars are still faster through this turn
It's easy for me to judge online, I don't know what the drivers go through however on track.
THIS IS WHAT ALL THESE RETARDS IN THE COMMENTS NEED TO SEE!

The speed and handling of the cars is staggering. Most people would have major problems trying to compete with these pro drivers. With that said I'm still gonna talk my shit.

Or jump over it

Bah, just need to make sure the car is durable enough to hit stumps and rocks and ditches, cutting is the best part next to yumps

Not fun
When Lewis Hamilton sat in Senna's McLaren for a test lap he shit his pants. A 6-time "world champion". Formula one died already back in 2008. There's even an E-Series now, like driving ur RC around a track! LOL
Basically...
George Mavrides Well guess what, that’s what happens when modern racing is “All safety or no game”
@@georgemavrides3434 Of course theres an E series. Manufacturers are racing for research and development and for now, electric cars seem to be the future. Also, Hamilton was not a 6 time world champion at the time of filming that McLaren video. And when the hell did he say he shat himself? You're just making shit up. The guy was super happy to drive the car and didn't seem scared at all. You sound like some old fart who never drove a car above the speed limit, thinking you know anything about racing just because you watch it in your living room. Bunch of old fat fucks who never raced a car in their life talking about safety and racing skill, fucking hilarious.

No it was DAS
Oh there is a part that's not easy for the drivers, let's make it child proof. Sometimes F1 is so soft...
John Wasgeht but I think it was too much of a kerb and way to narrow. You couldnt overtake when both cars come side by side to the chicane. Also it has a bit of the factor of luck because those kind of kerbs are a bit inconsistent and sometimes you fly or you pass really qiick throught there.
All I see is a bunch of Force Indias and Ferraris crashing. Not our problem their cars and drivers are weak.
Ironic how you talk about crashing, considering your 2 drivers did nothing but that to each other *AND* themselves last year. ;)
Matthew Panini Sorry to disappoint you but that's not the real Toto Wolff
SilentStorm Why did I mate with your mom?
Miss that chicane :(

Some of us can't afford a wheel or would rather use a controller (I know what's coming next, just don't). Don't criticize other peoples playing styles.

It's crazy how the suspension deals with the incredible acceleration and deceleration, plus the massive forces it withstands during hard turning, yet it immediately gets destroyed like it's made out of paper clips when even a small rock or slightly elevated curb is struck.
that's carbon fiber for you. When it's made light it can only be designed to deal with certain forces and quickly thereafter it will fail
*The FIA be like:* _"The real F1 was all the things we banned along the way"_
Isnt FIAs fault. Kerbs like that are dangerous, and teams can issue for the dmg that the track do to the cars. Example... Sutil was going in a straight, he managed to reduce the speed of the car and keep it so he doesnt crash to the sides... But the jump of the kerb destroy the suspension.. Cause you know, f1 cars doesnt have to jump. Then you can sue someone idk who, cause a kerb on the track cost you million of dolars

I've got a cheaper solution. How about you slow down and learn to take the chicane properly rather than removing it?!
If you do it nice and slow you end up with a bottleneck where you're basically forcing to behave like it's a yellow flag or retire from the race with a bad repair fee (well, you do roll the dice there so the car may get out unscathed).
Would still be nice to try and get something interesting there, right now that's a good placeholder.
@@cdgonepotatoes4219 I don't see why taking a corner slowly would be in issue, everyone would have to slow to the same speed wouldn't they on corner approach? We have the Grand Hotel hairpin at Monaco without any issues as far as I'm aware.
@@slinkoplush3323 well, I'm fairly new to the thing but I can guess that Monaco is slow in general while this was followed right after a long straight? So you have drivers coming in very hot and it doesn't seem like there's the option to cut the chikane if the drivers decide last second they're way too fast to do it proper, so they just hit the middle kerb and away they go.
Anyway, an idea I came up with was exactly a hairpin that forms after a gradual turn to the right, In general they seem to be slightly more forgiving after fast straights while having the same purpose, worst thing that could happen being they go too wide when entering and will have to brake and lose a lot of time, with little chance of losing control and faceplanting.
I know this thread is way late but I'm sorry your comment is just stupid. That is racing everyone wants to be the quickest and if you loose a second in this corner you try not to. Just imagine you loose one second every lap compared to your rival who takes the risk and goes through there faster. What would you do? He might crash but he most likely won't.
The Problem with this corner is that it's rolling the dice, it was random. There are so many factors involved and the car didn't even have to be half a meter off to DNF. To never crash there in a racing situation has nothing to do with skill. You can go through there 1000 times but on the 1001st go there is, idk, a fly on you brake rotors and your car drifts slightlty off, boom your race is over
SlinKO PluSh but everyone doesn’t have to take this chicane slow, as evidenced the majority of the time you can make it through there without incident just driving a straight fast line, but there’s no physical way to do the hotel hairpin fast. The danger comes when there’s a difference in speed between the fastest and slowest cars
classic F1, the only good part of the track layout being destroyed by a 90 degree corner of doom.
Lukas Wirtz they say "for safety"
Well, it doesn'st seem like much fun either. It's a race not a survive challenge
It was a terrible design, slow, dangerous and with no chance of overtaking.

Track designer: How about this tricky chicane that requires skill, you can't cheese and is absolutely unforgiving?
FIA: So you have chosen death.
Being denied cheese is absolutely unforgivable.
There is no risk-reward. If you put in a chicane that you have to take properly, or else it will crush your car and you have to retire, no one will take any risk. And it is basically a fluke if someone does make a mistake there and goes out.

@@fabianrocha9924 crash singapore, saying nelson should crash then renault can react beforehand and let Alonso win
@@fabianrocha9924 you forgot Crashgate?
Crashgate dude look it up
@@fabianrocha9924 Crashgate. Renault told Piquet Jr to crash on purpose, in order to bring out the SC and abuse the strange pit rules to let Alonso win.
Basically, Piquet Jr was told to crash at Turn 17 (I think?) badly; this was a place which was particularly bad because it takes ages to extricate a car from that area. In 2008, refuelling was still a thing, and Rule 40.6 disallowed people from pitting under the Safety Car until everyone was formed up behind it, and the "Pit Lane Open" message was broadcasted; anyone who pitted before the cars had formed up would get a 10 second penalty. If you pitted just before a Safety Car, you were in a great place as far as position went. So Renault pitted Alonso, then created a Safety Car for him.
The irony of F1 making a video celebrating all the times this corner produced amazing highlights/ crashes after deleting the corner because it created amazing highlights/crashes, is mind blowing.
Singapore Sling Chicane was great. It's a pity.
yeah but they had to make it easy for these shit drivers.
I remember at the time there was a lot of talk about these and other kerbs, one of the ideas for fixing the issue was to make drivers have to keep all wheels on the track, rather than just 1 wheel. I really wish this had been the route they chose, I really don't like watching drivers constantly driving off track, and complaining when they loose grip etc. In my opinion they shouldn't be trying to drive there and the rules should have been changed to ensure that. Makes me sad they didn't take this opportunity to do add this rule, would make F1 so much better :(
9NinetySix6 ... you liked that thing?? F1 fans don’t get what a good racetrack is
Oliver B But you can do better right?
Oliver B 'shit drivers'... ok. What in the hell was hard about the original chicane? You didn't have to be a driver's ace to brake down to 30 and drive it. Hell it's probably the only section on that track you could handle in an F1 car to begin with. They took it out because it sucked. It was slow, boring to watch, never any passes, etc... Fans hated it so they changed it up to a much more dynamic corner
F1 should bring this back! This is the reason why we watch F1 than go karting.
I prefer the old layout, it's much more challenging
You wouldn't be saying that if you're an F1 driver lol
shianeru so everyone should back out from a challenge?
@@TwoTwoFourSix People could die because of that chicane. So why dont fix it?
Xbox People could die in any corner on any track if they don’t take the corner at a proper speed. All they have to do is slow down to the correct speed and go through the chicane.
@Mae ! People could die living, i guess we all should stop living
For people not seeing the issue with the chicane:
What is the point of a corner in a racetrack? To create opportunities for creative overtakes. How do you overtake? By going off line to force the other driver into a worse line.
Now to the T10 Chicane. Going off line in there would result in one thing only, bouncing off the kerbs and breaking very expensive carbon reinforced titanium suspension arms. No opportunity for overtaking, no possibility to take a creative line to gain the upper hand, just one line that ensures you don't destroy your car. Does that sound exciting? The replacement, on the other hand is a nice wide corner with plenty of space for overtakes and various possible lines. So tell me again, what was so great about a narrow, unflexible piece of track that was only possible to be traversed single file.
Good point
Then the S's at Suzuka and Eau-rouge should be turned into straight lines since they don't offer overtaking opportunities.
@@xocoyotl4 Don't forget castle in azerbaijan, it's exactly like sling
I have a better sollution. Lets race straight in Monaco. will be all exciting i am sure
A lot of comments complain about that F1 is becoming more boring because of challenging turns being removed however this turn looks like it wasn't only challenging but also dangerous due to there being no run-off area, and the launching could easily flip a car if you are unlucky, so it might have stayed a part if it was a non-city track which could have a run-off area where the drivers ended up in the wall.

There was no point in having that corner - if someone got launched, you could expect a double waved yellow flag at the very least.
