    I like shooting the VP9 and unless you are already heavily invested in a different polymer framed handgun you need to take a hard look at this one - not perfect ( nothing is ) but it is a slick pistol

      I also have a VP9 and a HK45. I went from 1911’s to Glocks, back to 1911’s, back to Glocks, and now to HK. I have zero regrets. A Wilson Combat is still on my want list, but HK is my carry gun of choice.

      Len Wilson how's the trigger compare to Glock?

  • @patriotbill1156

    I am a Glock armorer and have a lot of experience with Glocks. I purchased the VP9 several weeks ago due to it's purported qualities. While I think Glocks are the top choice for combat handguns, the new VP9 challenges that position with an extremely well made and shootable contender. My VP9 runs 100% after drowned in a bucket of water or dry. So does my Glock 19.
    The VP has a better trigger because it has a wider face and a crisper break. Reset rivals the Glock. Ergos are better than the Glock once the optimal back strap and side panels are installed. Factory sights are better than Glocks factory sights. Glock has the overall edge in my opinion because it's a simpler design and can be 100% stripped and maintained without specialized tools or factory support. VP9 should not be detail stripped.
    I would not hesitate to carry the VP9 as my trusted CC piece and will, once my holster arrives. It's an excellent choice and a strong rival to the Glock 17 or 19 as a rugged defensive companion.

    • @patriotbill1156
      @patriotbill1156 8 років тому +5

      I made that choice and my decision ended up being the Glock 19. It carries and hides a little better than the full sized VP.

    • @mrgoodkat8567
      @mrgoodkat8567 8 років тому +1

      i currently carry a vp. and while iblike glocks and own a few, i find that the vp hides better in most cases than the 19. i usually just wear t-shirts and for whatever reason the 19 prints ALOT mkre than the vp. i carry both in a bravo concealment iwb at the 3 o'clock position. idk if its because the vp has more rounded edges than the 19 or what but for me the 19 just doesnt carry that well

    • @patriotbill1156
      @patriotbill1156 7 років тому +1

      Thank you for asking. Not as simple a system as the Glock but just as durable and dependable. The Glock is much easier to work on and do your own repairs / mods, if that makes any difference. The XD grip safety is really a non-issue for me. XD9 ? Good guns.

    VP9 is my first pistol, and has never let me down. I love every bit of it, and any flaws about it are minor to unnoticeable for me. Shoots like a dream, trigger is crisp and recoil is smooth and manageable. If you're looking for a striker-fired 9mm that won't let you down and Glock doesn't do it for you, give this a look.

  • @rustyshackleford17

    Been shooting the VP9 for a while now. Probably should mention a few things about people who complain about the price.
    VP9 has a better trigger. Period. So if you find yourself not liking the glock trigger the price difference alone makes up for the cost of a new trigger.
    VP9 has glow in the dark sights and are metal, better than the stock plastic glocks (though most people will change them out down the road)
    VP9 has a metal guide rod. Its a very common thing for users to replace on a glock.

      Rusty Shackleford I noticed that a lot of the difference in price between the 19 I was about to buy and the VP9 that I did buy all really had to do with the premium materials. I'm glad someone said it

    I went shopping for a full sized 9mm last week. I looked at a glock 17 &19, walther ppq, sig p320 and HK vp 9. I believe those to be among the best. I chose the HK. I took it out for the first time to the range 3 days ago and I must say the gun is fantastic. It was very soft shooting and never malfunctioned. Accuracy was outstanding. My friend. who shot the gun with me at the range fired 10 shots and asked me to sell it to him. In all honesty, I think all those guns I mentioned earlier are great, but I'm extremely happy with my HK and am confident I made a wise choice.

    Just purchased a VP9 as my first firearm. I’m in Jersey so I have to live with the ten round neutered magazines 🥲 I was in the gun shop handling a sig P365XL, a Glock 19, a CZ P10C, a Hellcat…. Man, as soon as I picked up the HK I knew I’d be taking it home. Felt like my hand melted into that modular grip. Some of the best ergonomics I’ve ever felt on a handgun.

    Yup, my only issue with the VP9, is I may ride the slide release and fail to get a lock back on the last rnd. It's not a show stopper for me in that it would not prevent me from CCW this fine gun, but I wish they'd made it more prominent or someone made an after market slide stop release for it.

    I don't think the PPQ was influenced by the P30 at all. If someone laid eyes on a late model P99, it would be unmistakeable where the PPQ was derived from. (I own both) The grip shape and contours are all the same between the two. The only difference is the textures on the grip and front cocking serrations on the PPQ. The P99 predates them all and is still a fantastic firearm. It really started the "very ergonomic" polymer pistol craze. It is a legendary firearm.

    • @nbates9893

      I'm so glad to see this comment, I LOVE my P99 more so then my HKs (P30 & VP9). First saw it in a James Bond flick and knew I had to have one. That trigger, it's sheer perfection, or as close as can be...double taps are a dream. Only my 1911s do I like more, but only just. Thanks for making my day with the P99 love!!!

    • @FNPNick
      @FNPNick 9 років тому +1

      It really doesn't get the attention it deserves. Maybe because it's an older model, I don't know. But, it's one of the best polymer semi autos ever made. And the trigger....well, nothing has a shorter reset, besides a 1911. To me, it's shorter than my PPQ, and just as short as my SIGs with the SRT.

    • @ericbauer7746
      @ericbauer7746 9 років тому

      Amen on that!!! I whole heartedly agree with everything you said. I like the fact that it's overlooked, that means I'll be able to grab another when one comes in to the shop; one for carry, one for keeping in the safe;). The trigger of the PPQ comes close, it's nearly identical to the SRT Sigs and, it even hangs with the Apex triggers for the M&Ps... Right out of the box for under $500.00!!!! It doesn't stop there either, it's accurate as hell and a pure pleasure to shoot as recoil is minimal.

    When it comes to polymer pistols I am a longtime GLOCK guy dating back to 1993 when I bought my first Gen 2 G-19 9mm. I have since acquired 26 other GLOCK pistols from the Gen 3 and Gen 4 variety. I own most of their lineup in .380 ACP, 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, 357 SIG and 10mm. I have owned HK USPs in the past and sold them both. They were a stainless fullsize USP-45 and fullsize USP-40. I never really liked them or their busy/bulky controls. I own three HK P7PSP 9mm squeezecockers from 1985 and 1986 x2 that I love and would never part with. I've owned S&W M&Ps in 9mm, .40 S&W, 357 SIG and .45 ACP (12 exactly) and sold them all off except the rare factory LEO 357 SIG fullsize I keep for collector purposes. Walther PPQs, Springfield Armory XD/XDms, CZ P-10, "Sig" P-320 etc...etc... are "meh" and I won't and don't own any.
    Other than GLOCK polymer pistols, I only own a few other polymers that are worth owning in my opinion. I own a Sig Sauer SP-2022 Sig Pro in 9mm and a HK VP9 OD green frame LE model with tritium night sights. I also own a Kahr P-380 stainless which I really like. My polymer love ends with these and I have no use for anything else. Primarily being a 1911 .45 ACP, Beretta 92FS/M9, GLOCK Gen 2, 3, 4, Sig Sauer P-220, P-226, P-228, P-229 and S&W revolver kind of guy. I also like my Browning Hi-Power 9mm, Star BM 9mms, CZ-75Bs and Kahr MK9 but my "go-to" pistols of choice are those^^^^ by a landslide margin.
    If it ain't a GLOCK, it better be a HK VP9 and Sig Sauer SP-2022 Sig Pro.......
    The end!

  • @sarinhighwind

    From Wikipedia on Double action triggers.
    "Glock and Kahr semi-automatic pistols are not DA (or DAO) pistols because the striker is "cocked" to an intermediate position by the operation of the slide and they cannot be re-activated by pulling the trigger a second time."
    Glocks are Striker Fire. They do not have a hammer or trigger cocking mechanism.

    PPQ was not influenced by the HK P30 (2006). The PPQ is a rebadged P99 RAD. While the P99 RAD may have been designed in 2008, the general shape of the grip remains identical to the P99 (1999). Maybe only stippling .

    Bought one right after i got my new drivers license in my new home state. Great feeling pistol. I've shot enough Glocks to know how it feels, and the HK stands heads and shoulders better ergonomics than the Glock. The charging ears actually work to rack the slide. The interchangeable grip panels fot my small hands mich better. The paddle mag release actually works better than button release.
    I really like this pistol and got a Streamlight TLR-1 1,000 lumen light for the pic rails. Superior nightstand dity pistol as well as a traveling companion when i travel in the 37 states that recognize my CCW.

They won't watch all of the other video reviews showing the VP9 performing flawlessly when under the same conditions. I'm sitting at a solid few thousand rounds through my VP9 OR I will say it's honestly my hands down favourite factory pistol that said I've been putting a lot of rounds down range lately on Sig 320 and 365 series pistols and the 320specter comp has really got me thinking but entirely too easy so I got a rail mounted comp lazy wolf zero overtravel trigger with a 3.5 pound trigger kit gauged mine at 3.3 lightening cut my slide because I'm a gunsmith and former CNC machinist so I do what I want all the time ramped and polished the slide out a low profile flared mag well and a gas pedal been trying to get my hands on one of the holosun VP9 direct mount green dots only thing I'm short rn but I mean immediately back on par with the gucciest version of a 320 all in all cost me like $450 extra so far without an optic so I'm still under a 320 spectre comp by a little bit all in all I've found though that if youre willing to have about 2k in just about any build ever you're gonna come out with a gun you'll wanna be burried with

    It still has that annoying, glock style, 'trigger within a trigger'. Larry test it side by side with the new Sig 320 striker fired line and let us know what you think. Also could you explain further why muzzle flip is not that bad despite the gun clearly having a bore that is too high. Didn't follow that. One of the many great things about the HK P7 is the low bore axis

      Sold my 19 for the VP9 and never looked back. I carry it whenever and wherever I can. I made one change by adding a slide cap because I didn't like the red indicator at the rear of the pistol. Imo you should know when your weapon is loaded. Trigger guard mag release is nice because I don't like reaching with my thumb as Vickers demonstrated with his index finger. Trigger pull is smooth. Not sure why the recoil looked the way it did, but it doesn't feel like that to me. Standard glow sights are a nice addition. Straight outta the box this gun is fantastic imo. I take it out to the woods and practice often (shooting, drawing, moving). Nearly 5000 rounds with zero malfunctions. As you well know, personal preference will have a lot to do with your decision, so I'd say shoot the VP9 if you get the chance. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. Good luck with your decision and I hope you get one.

    Agreed love my P-30 and think it is the best made polymer framed pistol out there, but I agonized between the VP9 and P30L because the trigger is better on the VP9. I knew I’d have a hard time finding the P30L again. And it is that well made. I might break down and buy a VP9. I have a Steyr M9A1 that I absolutely love that is probably very similar to the VP9 and it is a smooth, sweet shooter.

    Everyone is yappin about the PPQ, but the P99 was there before and was not influenced by anyone except for input by LE/military.

    I. Agree It is the best striker fired handgun on the market today. I picked mine up for $649 at my local shop and nothing has the ergonomics, quality and trigger that the VP9 brings to the table. I'm drilling 15 rounds in a silver dollar effortless at 7 yards,, and the group doesn't open up much at all when doing drills and quick fire..

  • @okeydokey2337
    @okeydokey2337 9 років тому +12

    Not sure how people think the VP9 has a crisper break than the ppq. The break and the reset on the ppq is far superior than any other handgun I've felt in my life. I understand if someone says it's just as good but in no way I'd it "better" than the ppq.

    • @jpap967
      @jpap967 9 років тому +5

      I've owned both, and all though the break is lighter on the PPQ, the take up is heavier and not as smooth as the VP9. Also for me the break on the VP9 was more predictable and in a better spot for me. It's preference really when the differences are this small, but to me, the VP9 trigger is better. Your results may vary

    I agree on your assessment of the trigger. I own a PPQ and a VP9 and I think the trigger is better on the VP9. The PPQ has a lighter trigger and many novices equate a light pull to a better pull but the VP9 has a smoother uptake and a crisper break. If you look at the PPQ and pull the trigger slowly you will notice the sides of the trigger drag on the frame, the VP9 does not.

    • @jpap967

    I feel that the VP9 is a smoother shooting gun than the other two. But i believe that the Walther has the better trigger. Both the PPQ and the VP9 have better ergonomics than the Glock, once again the nod goes to the VP9 . I own the PPQ and love everything about it less the muzzle flip. And may just ad the H&K in the future. But only after purchasing my first 1911.

    That's great, if you paid attention to the video, he says Glock has a double action STYLE trigger.
    Pulling the trigger on a Glock cocks the striker, also releases it. The increased trigger tension along the pull is akin to a double action style pull vs a single action style feel of a fully cocked striker in the VP9.
    Here's a bit from Wikipedia, since you like them: "Double action may refer to: Double-action, a system in firearms where the trigger both cocks and releases the hammer"

    Excellent review; gave me all the key points to consider as I'm in the market for a Walther PPQ now, but this might be a show stopper now. I need to test both the VP9 and the PPQ in person at the stores, but if the trigger is anything like the PPQ or better, I'm picking up a VP9 instead.

      Vp9 is better than the PPQ. I've owned both. Better grip, less muzzle flip than the PPQ, and to me the trigger is better. Vickers said exactly what I think about the triggers of both pistols. PPQ is lighter, but VP9 is smoother and more predictable.
