- Coll de Dama Mutante has grown very well for us, having been rooted in December 2016. We hoped to have fruit from our tree in 2019 based on the trees size but the first fruits began ripening for us in late August 2020 and today we finally had enough fruits to do our first video review of this variety which was discovered by another collector in Spain who then shared it with other collectors in the U.S. who then shared it with us. The fruit is very characteristic of Coll de Dama / Col de Dame varieties with a thick jammy pulp with a rich berry flavor and mild sweetness. This variety is of somewhat unknown origin as the Spanish collector found this along a road and gave it the "Mutante" name as it appears to be a mutated strain given striped fruits. Carlos is the name of the Spanish collector, I could not remember his name during the video.
This is a common type variety (pollination not required) and it has fruited for at least a few others in states without the fig wasp. We are hoping that fruits will start ripening earlier for us next year as it is not known to be a late variety for some of these other growers.

@figaholics could you tell the fariety of figs you can eat a bunch of? I think they would have to be lower in acidity or maby it has to do with the peel. Thanks!
Look very nice. What about the ripen time of Coll de Dama Mutante compare to other Col de Dame varieties? You have several Col de Dame varieties in your list. Which one ripen earlier among them? Thanks
My Coll de Dama Mutante is a younger tree and it's too early to compare for that but next year I should get a better idea. Sorry for the late reply.

Thank you for all your content! I’m interested in getting one myself and was wondering which variety of col de dame you think tastes the absolute best. Thank you.
All of the CdD types taste very good and I have no preference over one or the other. They aren't exactly the same but even fruit from the same tree a week later tastes different.
These videos would be more helpful if you could focus in on the whole Fruit before eating it.
I went back and checked and I focused on the first fruit for about 24 seconds. Most people like the fact that my videos are relatively short rather than blabbing away or spending too much time on a single aspect. In any event, thanks for watching.

Don't birds bother your trees? Do you think this tree would be hardy in zone 7a, Virginia?
Yes, birds are a big problem here and we have videos on different bird deterrent devices we use. I do not have any knowledge on how hardy this variety is, sorry.
Is your CdD mutante on its own roots and do you ever sell rooted cuttings of any varieties?
Yes, it is growing on its own roots. We only sell dormant cuttings of this and other varieties at our annual cutting sale in January at figaholics.com

I do not sell seeds of any figs, I eat them. :) In addition, figs are best grown from cuttings. We will sell cuttings in January 2021 at www.figaholics.com/cuttings.htm as well as over 300 other varieties.

I only prune my cuttings after they have gone dormant. All trees are still actively growing and producing fruit.
