Summoning electricity wasn’t a basic ability. The only reason killua could do it was because he was exposed to to electricity his whole life.
Yeah but in a persons mind a easy super power that comes in mind is the power of electricity look at electro from Spider-Man, but I understand that in the HxH world electricity is a rare power since you need to know a lot about the substance you’re trying to mimic
Don’t forget that killuas huge brain allowed him to create a move that’s pretty much fucking autopilot

ThomTom, I know this video is 4 years old, but I bothered to stop and comment just to say exactly this. In western comics/fantasy electricity is actually a basic, meme-like, power. But Togashi is more creative AND logical for that. For him the powers have to make sense, and this makes sense in that nen works more like how irl human capacity for evolution functions.
Underrated Arc. The rpg elements and progression of killua and Gons relationship is amazing
Nen-Fun-Fact:
Most Fans dont realize that Conjuration-Nen has a Replacement-Variant, as shown by Tsubone, Ikalgo and Greed Island. A Mechanic that i imagine to be quite popular as it's simple but potent: You give something up to get something new.
You could even go to Extremes and conjure yourself into something like a Blade that cant levitate but needs to be used by Someone as a mere Blade,
which would sacrifice everything about you temporarily (or even forever), even youre Autonomy, just to gain give youre Comrade Power.
It’s basically Transifguration-Magic, the thing that Prof McGonagall teaches.
Funny/Epic enough: this is the type that doesnt just allows you to summon Creatures like Werewolves but BECOME ONE. Wow.
And of course all this can be used as Self-Cursing, which Conjuration is anyway best-suited for.
Greed Island is a fantastic template for a video game and I don't understand why nobody picks up the rights and makes a decent game out of it. I'm aware of some old or mobile games but I'm talking bout something on the budget and quality level like for example the recent Hogwarts Legacy.
@@nenmaster5218 now that you mentioned all of this, I 100% need to see someone give up their own autonomy with their Nen, in order to help someone else. It's something a royal guard would've done for Meruem but I wouldn't be surprised if he plays with that concept, maybe a prince's henchmen giving up his life in order to transform into a weapon that a prince could use.

Greed Island isnt a good Videogame Isekai. It plays with that concept in a few cool ways, but most of them only work becuase its in the Hunter X Hunter Universe.

Meruem constantly losing to Komugi in Gungi, and growing respect for someone who’s so weak, yet so strong in her own aspect was one of the best parts of the entire series thus far

The fact that Ging created this game really shows how incredible he is with Nen. He has the be the best. It’s really impressive.
Greed Island is one of my favorite arcs, I was shocked when I found out a lot of people don't like it.

Because compared to every other arc even including the first it falls flat.
The reason behind Togashi making and spending so much time on The Greed Island game was his desire to make a tactical card game manga like Yu Gi Oh.
And thinking he wouldn't be able, due to his health he implemented that desire into the Greed Island Arc.
I kinda wanna see Togashi work on a Yugioh manga now, maybe for the 7th series? Or maybe work on a manga for Vrains?

Phatom Troupe and this arc are mine.
Phantom Troupe was the most entertaining, but The Chimera Ants was the most beautiful, it made me cry.

When I was first experiencing the greatness that is Hunter X Hunter I thought that was going to be a sword art online style tangent with no real impact other than a clue. Needless to say I wasn't expecting one of the greatest game related anime to suddenly happen.

1:49-2:11 Wrong, Gon Mentions Razor when he kills his first Chimera Ant, how that Chimera ant's attacks are nothing incomparison to Razor's Spikes.
There are a few mentions of it, but it never coheres in anything substantial. I think Killua compares one of the ant's powers to Genthru's powers as well. What i meant was the whole point of the Greed Island arc, which was the card collecting, is never brought up again.
Daigo 0005 Also in the 13th Chairman arc, when Ging kind of brush off Gon someone in the crowd says that he beat Greed Island so he deserves to be with his dad more.
@@Tekking101 Why would they bring up card collecting? They were all there lol. Theres no reason to bring it up. They even mentioned gons dad probably built greed island to train him. Thats basically referencing it. They just dont say literally say "remember when we had to collect cards? me too, anyway lets save kite"
The cards work only on greed island and only 3 can be used outside after beat the "game", 11 people made that "game". We see a card ability after (with a yu-gi-oh referenze) but not worked
After they mentioned things of greed island :
1)Gon when talk for the first time with Kite
2)Gon compare the chimera ant attack to Razor's spike
3)Gon and Killua talking about Ging's plan for Gon
4)Bisky return
5)(this is more a theory) When the miniature rose exploded looks like Genthru's ability "little flower" (when he show it for the first time), maybe his ability is inspired by that bomb
6)during the election when Gon talk with Ging about Kite and one in the crowd say that Gon cleared greed island

To be fair, Togashi probably went overkill with the cards because he had ideas for the longest time. If you don't quite understand what I mean, imagine this:
Through inspiration, you come up with idea after idea, for years upon years.
Speaking from experience, eventually there HAS to be an outlet. It's like that law of physics where energy builds and HAS to find a way out. It can't just stick around and be piled on forever.
Togashi is a writer I greatly respect. One of the few times I've memorized an author's name.

Probably my 2nd favorite arc, this was really gave the boys a much needed power boost and it was pretty fun like the first arc.
Only thing I didn't like was that Leorio and Kurapika took a HUGE backseat for hundreds chapters, I wish they could've came along in Greed Island too.
The final fight was one of my all time favorites, seeing Gon have his throat crushed and get beat around that really made tear up and go wild because I wanted him to actually one a boss fight for once.
Lastly, I shipped KillianXBiscuit up until I found out she's an old lady in her 50's like Tsunade.
Morgan Craddock exactly! Hus fight with genthuru was so overwhelming because the level between thier abilities was huge..and he was completely on his own (till he started to follow the plan)
so you wont be enjoying the newest manga arc either as there is only kurapika atm
@@juldor93 Oh I will, bummed out Gon & Killua won't be tagging along, but they'd have no place in this arc so it's their turn to take a break for over hundreds of chapters.
Plus I love Kurapika and Leorio together and there's been a lot of interesting build up, especially now that the Spiders are there.
I'm also still waiting for the "Top 3 shocking moments" the Author mentioned awhile back.

About I wanna say 2-3 years ago the creator made an announcement on the Jump Author comments saying to be prepared for the top 3 shocking moments we won't see coming in this arc when they arrive to the Dark Continent.
I think you missed the most important part regarding the nen system in greed island. All the cards have restrictions how to get them. So the more complicated the restriction to obtain a card is, the more powerful can it be by the "restriction->power" rule of nen. Because the card only materializes the moment the restriction is cleared.
Yes! The pledge/restriction system here involves both the makers of the game, the game itself and the players. The power and action of the cards comes out of the whole interaction not one source.

Wait what a hunter x Hunter video
greed island has always been one of my favourite arcs, though i do believe the chimera ant arc and phantom troupe arc are more developed and are better overall, the greed island arc in general was always just so fun for me.
first of all it introduces my personal favourite character of the series, biscuit krueger, who is just an amazing character who honestly needs way more attention and appreciation. the arc itself is also very crucial to the storyline as it's probably the main training arc of the series, where gon and killua learn the more complicated and extended techniques of nen and gon actually finds more about his father and where he is and what he's doing which is gon's goal. it also gives the phantom troupe some closure, instead of completely cutting them out of the series (until they appear again in the chimera ant arc) we get to see them after the events of losing chrollo and how they work and act around it, also them actually searching for the one who can help their leader. and it also gives the show so much more diversity, hxh already had so many genres but adding a rpg card game? like wow that's extremely unexpected for a shounen series that isn't completely based on that concept already.
although the arc does have it's downsides like genthru who is just a weak villain (not just physically, but motive and character wise), especially compared to the phantom troupe and the chimera ants. overall it's a very fun arc in my opinion, as it allows some more calm and less serious plot lines to take over and we just get to see killua and gon developing as hunters and nen users.
ALSO THE NEW GAME COMING OUT BASED OFF OF GREEN ISLAND? i hope this film (whether it's a movie, ova or actual series) is able to explore the game a lot more especially because hxh 2011 gave it so much world building but never fleshed it out and showed it off.

If anyone here has not watched Hunter x Hunter, let me make a case real quick for you to watch it. Now, I'm sure a lot of people, like me, think that the shounen genre is over-saturated and very predictable, but if you come into HxH with that idea, prepare to be shook. There is a reason why Hunter x Hunter is #5 on the top anime of all time list from Myanimelist, and is the second highest ranked shounen after Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. If you thought One Piece had some great character building, HxH has been being made for 19 months longer than One Piece, yet the Gon Pirates have only JUST entered their Grand Line.
You probably thought all shounen villains were there to be hated by the audience and defeated by the main character, but when was the last time you met one that changed so drastically over the course of their arc that you are actually moved to literal tears when they're gone? When was the last time you watched a shounen where you actually have to question which side you should be rooting for and that even makes makes you question the meaning of life as a whole. Watch HxH, and if you don't like it, you can sue me for all I'm worth. I guarantee you will.
@Remark It has 8 times as many episodes, of course it does.
I am pretty sure Gintama is the second highest ranked shonen in the list. I, personally, prefer Gintama and FMAB over HunterXHunter but the Chimera ant arc is arguably one of the best shonen arcs of all time. Having said that, I remember how much I struggled to get through Greed Island. I am not the biggest fan of that arc and for me that was HunterXHunter's weakest arc.
Interesting points, for sure. But there was only one instance in HxH where I was torn between the two sides of a battle/argument. I don't think that's all that knew in shonen manga to be honest, and even Naruto pulled that off more times than HxH for me. Though I can't vouch for the "meaning of life" part, no shonen has even come close to do that to me xD
@@Newtonissac6 Good point. I forgot that it was serialized in Shonen Jump. To me though, Gintama is almost in a category of its own since it has parts from basically every anime type, but fair point. #3 then.
@@JayfroC What about the Phantom Troupe? They're kind of a chaotic neutral; they killed the Kurta, but they also saved Meteor City from the chimera ants. As to thoughts towards the meaning of life, I guess what provokes that is different for each person. Personally seeing Meruem constantly question what reason he was born so powerful made me.
Compared to the ark the came before it and the one after it greed island was pretty mediocre I don't why people think it's the best more like 3rd it goes

That Nen-Minecraft comparison is damn awesome. Especislly if you think about it a little more. The way Ging and his friends created that game is in my opinion very simmilar to that minecraft calculator.
You have no idea how it's done and it shows that there are insane skills to aquire that seem way beyond of the concepts original capabilities.
Greed Island is the embodyment of what we don't know and understand about nen yet.
If you're a halfling you're basically guaranteed to always succeed on the risky die.

My theory about the creation of those absurd nen abilities cards is that, somehow, Ging just "captured" every single one of them, or most of them, and one of the other creators turned them into cards. Granted, we don't know half of the people who developed Greed Island nor their nen abilities, but we do know that each letter in the name of the game stands for one person.
Maybe one person in specific could locate nen users by their hatsu's functionality. Maybe they just went full tyrant with it and killed most of the users to get a stronger version of their nen. I don't know, but i do know that Ging has the perfect ability for the job, even if i we don't have the full understanding of it.

The phantom troupe arc is debatable with the chimera ant arc
True but most fans will put CA over PT. Myself included. But it's not a huge gap tho as far as i know.

Whatever else: The remaining 10%
The PT arc is amazing but CA is more amazing imo and that's where the 'debate' lies
@@rob_lucci9100 if we're talking about what arc get's the most votes in "your favorite arc" category, it is usually the chimera ant arc. but in terms of an average score it gets, yorknew city arc could be the highest-rated out of all of the hunter x hunter arcs. especially if you were to ask people who don't watch anime most of the time.
You could do a series of videos going through each card and find a scenario to use each one. Maybe like a 0-24, 25-50, and so on. Just an idea. Just going through the cards all in one would be cool too, but might be a long video. I'm always down for a series. excited about the black clover character discussions too!
Greed island is my favorite arc. And it peaks at the volleyball match. That was SUPER AWESOME!!! I liked the last part taking out the bomb guy too.

Chimera Ant Arc,period. Because of Nagareboshi Kirari,one of my favorite anime songs. Meruem playing gungi with Komugi. The unleashing of Gon. The horror aspects of that arc. Just let's say,It made the most impact on me. And touched me in the feels,a couple of times.
I actually loved Greed Island because it was also a major character development arc for Gon and Killua not only in the training and refining of their respective Nen abilities but also in their relationship, meeting biscuit and getting more of an idea of what kind of a mad lad Ging is.

I totally agree tekking! I have been saying for years that greed island is so amazing, also because when the arc came upon use (i was reading back then) we thought it would be a meeh arc, but it was just amazing combining so many amazing element of games etc. into HXH. The camara ant arc is pretty good but I think Yorknew was better, simply because the Phantom Troupe is amazing.

Detroit's Reaper Well in terms of content, character development, fights, plot, vilains, support characters, psychological and metaphors, I could go all day long. Literally everything is superior in the Chimera Ant Arc. You can say that you prefer the other Arcs but the Chimera Ant it’s just too much.

Better villains, better plot, better character development for both heroes and villains, more twist and a better build up to the troupe . Alot of the things you named i could say were better with better pacing as well imo. But its just all opinion at the end of the day
Detroit's Reaper Well idk but the atmosphere that was going through the Chimera Ant Arc was simply unmatched. The sheer darkness and character développement is also undisputed. Sure Kurapika and Chrollo get developped but Meruem, Gon, Pitou, Pouf and Youpi can’t be matched by the Phantom Troupe, because we don’t really know much about them. Meruem was simply untouchable in terms of character and the fight scenes are also unmatched. Kurapika vs Uvo was amazing but Netero vs Meruem and Gon vs Pitou are too much. That’s forgetting the Royal Guards fights. Psychological metaphors are everywhere more than the York New Arc. I think that your preference is fine, but overall, Chimera Ant Arc was an unmatched masterpiece.

@@skywalker1335 the game seem complicated as hell, and the bomber has to be the lamest major villain in hunter x hunter history, the only good that came from that arc is bisky and the Dodgeball game other than that I think the series could have continued without this arc, and Razor too.

SkyWalker I don’t think so. The characters usually explain their nen abilities after they have bodied their opponent. For example, the kurapica vs uvo fight and the meruem vs netero fight.

the arc that made me hooked to HxH was without a doubt the phantom troupe arc. the way the PT is hyped is amazing and all that mafia shit.
my favourite is heaven's arena arc, because it introduces nen perfectly and sets up yorknew, greed island and chimera arc for greatness.
