32-29 is actually the danger zone for road temperatures. At 28 the ice forms crystals on top and gives a better (not dry road but better) grip with the tires. At 33 degrees you’re close to the freezing point but generally it’s spray back from the tires still.
Most of you people down south really need to stay off of the road. Your state doesn't have the kind of equipment or salt and sand/ beet juice to spray on the roads to deal with weather like this stay indoors stay off the roads.

I'm from up north, been driving for over 50 years, seen plenty of blizzards and I cant for the life of me figure out why people put themselves or others in harms way.
Yeah it's bad... it's bad here in Madison County NC "Marshall NC" deep snow on the mountains iced roads n 90% of the roads are completely covered In ice n deep snow it's Hella bad here in nc
It's only a "nightmare" if you are unprepared. There's no shame in saying no to bad weather driving. Driving the Northern Plains in bad weather is best left for professionals who ARE prepared. The roads will clear and then you can go.
I personally plan on gig working the local roads early in New York when it hits but the moment I feel unsafe and when the roads start to get busy I shall stop.
Funny, how the States knows these winter blasts are coming, YET they never seem to have enough salt & sand to put down on the roads. Then you have that 1 driver who thinks they are the best & safest driver out there, who ends up looking at their phones & causes major back ups.
This storm in particular hit many areas in the south that have VERY little snow removal equipment or salt/sand/crushed rock. Georgia gets some very light snow, nothing like this storm. It doesn’t have to be looking at a phone to cause a chain reaction of bad juju either- a split second look down for a drink or change the radio station has the same results.
If you must drive bring kitty litter the cheap kind. It provides great traction. Brink a blanket and a candle in a glass holder. It will literally save you from freezing to death. Keep your phone water and snacks in the car over winter.
We got 14 inches of snow friday where I work in Colorado. I drove home at much slower speeds and with snow tires and 4 wheel drive it wasn't a big deal. We are used to though averaging 200 plus inches per year snowfall!
We rarely get snow and ice so we don't have the road equipment a lot of places have. Today's snow in Charlotte is an icy snow. When we have a dry snow, the road conditions are usually a lot better.
@@atomicfusionvideo True enough! We did get 96 inches of snow in 3 1/2 days however in 2003. Usually a dry snow but often after warm weather so the roads are a sheet of ice under the snow!

Ms. Ellison, this doesn't happen very often. My mother-in-law lives about 30 mins. outside of Charlotte and she says they do get mild storms - 1 to 3 inches here and there or a little ice that stops traffic for a day. Storms like this maybe 1 in 5 years or so. The fact that there is another storm coming this next weekend is a double whammy and something not often seen. The snow/ice doesn't stick around. Usually the temp warms up and melts whatever is dropped within a day or so. Good luck with wherever you choose to make your new home.
Why are the small cars even out on the road, they have been talking about this storm coming across the United States for weeks. How did you miss the memo?
This looks like common winter snowfall condition in here finland. None of these drivers know how to drive in snow probably and are driving with summer tires on top of that, a terrible combination.
Not sure where this is or where it was shot but I don't believe this is Charlotte, NC. It may be on I77 well north of town. But the city may have gotten at most 2" on 1/16/21.
The military can sometimes be very shortsighted with safety issues. Why are these tropps standing on a road with moving traffic in olive drab coats, with very limited vision? . Reflective vests would take the excitement out if the mission.
Fill up the tank and find a place to park it until the road crews clean that mess up a little. Gotta be a greezy spoon nearby to kill a few hours and sleep a few hours in the car.
Why do people not listen .stay off the roads….this weather system was broadcasted for the last 2 days…..why expect police and elms and every else to come and save your butts..good grief….
Even I from the Dakotas, where we get our share of heavy snow and -30 wind chills, know better than to drive in winter storm conditions like this, don't they watch weather forecast? If you have never driven in snow you are only asking for trouble, it's better to be a day or two late getting somewhere instead of being in a car accident or stranded stay home and stay safe.
The same thing just happened right up the road in Virginia a week or two ago with weather forecasters screaming for days it was coming and they had the same results. Some ppl refuse to watch the weather or heed it's warnings.
It's very little snow and mostly ice. Many folks works still made them go out today though! Our roads are not made for these storms as we used to only get them every couple years but it seems like yearly now. We just don't have the infrastructure to handle it.

They should have been better prepared and OFF the streets by now.. That's what common sense would tell you. I'm from up north, been driving for over 50 years, seen plenty of blizzards and I cant for the life of me figure out why people put themselves or others in harms way.
People know how to drive in snow but the ice...
Yeah it's bad... it's bad here in Madison County NC "Marshall NC" deep snow on the mountains iced roads n 90% of the roads are completely covered In ice n deep snow it's Hella bad here in nc
When people are told to stay off the roads that is exactly what they mean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s crazy you’re only about four hours away I’m here in Jacksonville North Carolina with sunny clear weather.
If you don't have to be on the road dont go out let plows do their job without worrying other vehicles.
Praying for everyone's safety
Did these people not see the forecast or hear any of the many warnings?
Honestly we never get much of anything ever, got fooled this time lol.
LOAD UP THE KIDS HONEY. I GOT TO GO BUY SOME BEER, CIGARETTES, AND A LOTTERY TICKET.
😂
us folk from the north west take it for granted that folks will slow down when snowy conditions occur. to me it is a no-brainer.
Have you ever seen Seattle drivers doing it in the snow? Enough to make Flo cry
Did that OshKosh get stuck?
It's only a "nightmare" if you are unprepared. There's no shame in saying no to bad weather driving. Driving the Northern Plains in bad weather is best left for professionals who ARE prepared. The roads will clear and then you can go.
Nice to see the Oshkosh M984A4 wrecker out there on the highway. Fun times driving and operating it.
Context. Everyone knew it was coming. Yes, the DOT has been working non stop to salt and scrape. No, you can't drive in almost a foot of snow.
I moved to N.C. and they simply don't plow the roads nor know how to drive in the snow....
Why did anybody have to travel in snow. Why not leave a day early if your going home.. or shop before it starts.
I agree unless it is an essential job like a hospital or nursing home.
I personally plan on gig working the local roads early in New York when it hits but the moment I feel unsafe and when the roads start to get busy I shall stop.
That’s the kind of weather we usually have in northern Michigan but we barely got anything yet, thankfully
most dont read the memo about this storm coming
Funny, how the States knows these winter blasts are coming, YET they never seem to have enough salt & sand to put down on the roads. Then you have that 1 driver who thinks they are the best & safest driver out there, who ends up looking at their phones & causes major back ups.
This storm in particular hit many areas in the south that have VERY little snow removal equipment or salt/sand/crushed rock. Georgia gets some very light snow, nothing like this storm. It doesn’t have to be looking at a phone to cause a chain reaction of bad juju either- a split second look down for a drink or change the radio station has the same results.
If only we had a way to predict weather ....
When we have a dry snow, the road conditions are usually a lot better.
colorado hahhah new york state and east coast gets it nasty and damp icy NOT the same
@@atomicfusionvideo True enough! We did get 96 inches of snow in 3 1/2 days however in 2003. Usually a dry snow but often after warm weather so the roads are a sheet of ice under the snow!
They must have sent all the plow trucks to Charlotte because here in the foothills, our roads are covered and packed down and icy
Wow, Charlotte is at the top of my list for relocation when I leave Indiana. I thought I did my research but this is the kind of weather I'm ready to get away from. 🧘🏾♀️🌬🕯🌬 sending good vibes, positive energy and safety to them all
I live here in Charlotte. Trust me most of our winters are very mild. It's rare that we get snow in these parts. And it only lasts for about 3 days...
If you can’t get out of snow ,get branches from trees ,put under tires .carry cat litter, shovel ,food ,water , blankets ,
I had all that stuff and was ready. You show see the looks that I got when I tried to get on the bus.
I used to carry ashes from my wood furnace / fireplace . They stick to the tires and provide traction.
There really are times you have no business being in that kind of weather...even if being on the road is what you do.
I watched this morning and thought it wasn't that bad!
I was in Charlotte NC last Thursday. so glad I'm in California 🙏 😎
Why are the small cars even out on the road, they have been talking about this storm coming across the United States for weeks. How did you miss the memo?
Doesn't look so bad to me but then again I'm from Buffalo, NY
It's an icy snow
GO BILLS!
This looks like common winter snowfall condition in here finland. None of these drivers know how to drive in snow probably and are driving with summer tires on top of that, a terrible combination.
Ice was involved with the snow. Round two is tonight.
@@tammyferguson2707 yep, that's why I turned around and went back home on my way to work.. I get off at 3:30 am and was like f this
Not sure where this is or where it was shot but I don't believe this is Charlotte, NC. It may be on I77 well north of town. But the city may have gotten at most 2" on 1/16/21.
I'm near Greensboro, there was snow for 3 hours and then icy sleet for 5 hours, it is exceptionally slick!
I will correct myself after watching the news. This could have been I77 just north of town.
@StormChasingVideo:
What vehicle do you drive and does it have some proper winter tyres? Thank you!
Damn, if only there was a way to make the world warmer.
Here in Canada we have winter tires on. Its way easygoing if you're used to it. And drive safely.
Bad weather rarely slows trains.
Why is people driving in this bad weather. No money is worth my life. The news been giving people updates way before the storm
How do electric cars cope in this weather?
I'd probably be curious about that too. Good point. My guess, probably not so good. Not even great, I would think.
The military can sometimes be very shortsighted with safety issues. Why are these tropps standing on a road with moving traffic in olive drab coats, with very limited vision? . Reflective vests would take the excitement out if the mission.
A little taste of Canadian winter eh,I see this about 6 Months a year
Fill up the tank and find a place to park it until the road crews clean that mess up a little. Gotta be a greezy spoon nearby to kill a few hours and sleep a few hours in the car.
It’s not Charlotte. I live in Charlotte and there was less than one inch of snow fall. Why would this channel do something so wrong ?
Wow, I'm just three hours north of Charlotte and we only got a dusting of snow.
I'm two hours west and we got six inches. Funny 🌎
Marry Christmas 🎄
At 2:53 - Your Amazon delivery will be late.
It's very little snow and mostly ice. Many folks works still made them go out today though! Our roads are not made for these storms as we used to only get them every couple years but it seems like yearly now. We just don't have the infrastructure to handle it.
My nephew used to drive cross country and mostly along the East coast..Oh my goodness!
No chains, no snow tires, no common sense. Especially with all those 70,000 pound toboggans on the highways.
I guess when y'all don't have snow plows and sanding and salting trucks gotta call out the national guard! Wow, it might be a good idea to invest in a few snowplow essentials for the Justin case!
