i wish i would have seen this before i went to the hair salon. they messed up my bangs. gave me short, blunt bangs and i wanted longer, wispy bangs. aaagggghhhh by the time they grow and with 100 + degree weather i have to walk around with a "blanket" on my face
Believe it or not but not every hair professional knows or is comfortable cutting a new fringe for their clients! I graduated from Beauty school and our class specifically had a lady come in and taught us the latest techniques on fringe trends. in other words if the stylist isn't keeping up his/her education they're not going to know what to do. A hair stylist must keep teaching themselves and sadly some do not!

I already had short blunt bangs but wanted more texture and uneven lines so this video helped me to achieve the exact look I was going for. Perfection is sometimes uneven and jagged. :)

I cut my bangs myself about four months ago and love them. I think it can be very satisfying to do it yourself, because it is easy and can make such a huge difference.
I wanna ask a question . Does this work on curly hair ? I know if I cut it I will straighten the bangs but does it look good on curly hair ? (I put my hair in a bun all the time)
Its_Me_ Yusr I have curly hair and cut my bangs all the time but prefer to have them curly. If your hair is very curly cut the length to the tip of your nose as it will shorten due to the curls. I used to do this when I was younger and my hair was a lot curlier than it is right now.
Looks lovely! Another great tip: gather the hair you want to cut into bangs and twist it all together over the bridge of your nose. Slowly snip across. Start off a little longer than you'd like and once the big chop is done you can go back in and touch it up!
Your cutting bangs actually help me save my too short cut bangs!!!! I went back and held them up and cut into them at an angle!!!! So glad I watched your video!

That's a biased statement. You think you did a good job, that doesn't mean you actually did. I'd also like to add, a hairstylist'd job isn't iust strictly making it look good. They're also trying to make sure they're cutting the hair in a way that doesn't break the hair or make it brittle at the same time. There's a lot more to cutting hair than you'd think.
Korii Carrasco Well, you gotta try to understand, you're likely talking to a bunch of women that have had their hair *BUTCHERED* by salons. Her hair looked 10X better than about have my haircuts... ever. It's frustrating cause You can pay 50-300 bucks and end up looking like a wild hobo. If it looks good and your happy with it, that should be the point. Maintaining the health of the hair is important, yes. But it shouldn't be a choice between health and good looking. A good hairdresser should be able to find a good balance.
Hey there! I go to beauty school at the Aveda Institute in Chicago. You did pretty well cutting your bangs but I just want to give you some tips on point cutting. (which is what you're doing at 2:07) When you first started point cutting that's exactly how you're supposed to do it. But when you start to point more shallowly you want to go a little higher up into the hair. It's only meant to take out the littlest bit of hair when you do shallow point cutting!
Hi Julia :-) I feel exactly the same way you do about hairstylists! I live in the Nürnberg, DE area and haven't found one hairdresser who's salon I've walked out of feeling great. So, I learned how to cut and color my own hair and now it's never looked better. Enjoy your new bangs!

But there's 1 time I asked her to cut my fringe shorter and she accidentally grab the front section of my bangs as well as the second section and cut it all off. My bangs were so short as if I was a boy or a girl with mullet haircut! LOL Ahh memories~
I did the same thing I took in a pic to my stylist and asked her for "choppy" bangs and she left them looking amazing!!!!! And I've had them for over 3 months :)
I dont know if you're still trimming your fringe this way or if you're getting your stylist to do them now, but if you trim them with the twist technique, it softens and blends them into your hair, and you can cut them all at once. (look up sam villa's twist fringe to know how)

Continual frustration lead me to learn how to cut my (& friends) hair from online tutorials & books. Lovely! Your use of a quasi point cutting technique works well to create the peicy look! I agree- bad stylists are awful! When sharing pics & telling them what you want- it's like they've already got an idea in mind for what THEY want to do. Never be afraid to stop mid-haircut if you notice that a stylist isn't doing what you asked them to! It can be hard to speak up but you'll be glad you did!

Looks amazing, Julia, should have had you cutting my bangs a week ago...The woman I went to is supposed to be a professional stylist, but you'd never know it. I have had my bangs cut many times before, and I know pretty much how bangs are supposed to be cut, and that, most of the time, they are not as screwed up as mine. She simply moistened my hair, combed a bit down over my eyes, and, by God, she cut me some bangs...nothing like I asked for or wanted..Just one little area shorter than the rest of my hair, like a peephole to see through, no attempt at making them THICK, and I specified I wanted thick, full bangs angled into the rest of my hair..I had a trim of the bottom, which she did beautifully, but this woman obviously does not know how to cut bangs...I know, they'll grow, but it's dealing with them until then...anyone, you did a fantastic job...New Subbie here. :-)

Nice bangs, Julia! I have been doing this for years. Only ONE hair-dresser has managed to cut my bangs nicely throughout the years and she is nowhere to be found right now. I cut 'em, I style 'em and now that I got the hang of it, I do not let anyone else, but me to touch them :-)

When I saw your bangs on my facebook & you asked real or clip ins I thought they looked real but I answered clip ins.Now I see you really did it & I am a hairdresser. A lot of hairdressers do take the scissors & chop up like you did.It's called point cutting.I have had bangs for yrs now & finally started growing them out last July.They are coming back in style but it seems to be slow catching on.Razor cuts are never good. They make your hair a whole lot more frizzy & tend to cause split ends.
At first I thought this was a joke, then I was scared for you, then I thought for sure she's gonna stop and go get it done by a pro - you sure got me on a roller coaster ride this time Julia! I don't think I'll have the guts to do this to myself anytime soon. I'm pretty lucky with the stylists in my city though. So relieved it turned out well for you!
And when you part the hair to cut a bang you want to part it into a triangle from the center. It helps the bang to look fuller and gives you a better shape!

I've cut those kind of bangs on someone before. You round out the edges so they frame the face and then point cut as you did. Honestly, I took cosmetology in America and I learned that exact way of cutting bangs. In fact, it's usually preferred over a blunt cut bang.
I love it! I thought for sure it was clip-ins but I love bangs on you :) I wish I could have bangs but I have very thin hair so I can't really cut enough, they end up looking way too wispy. I'm very much of the same opinion that it's just hair. I've cut it, dyed it, lightened it, whatever. I have always had a hard time finding a good hair dresser as well so I end up just doing it myself.
Just a tip for next time. If you take that section, twist it once and cut straight across (below the twist,) you will end up with face framing bangs that are actually pretty straight.
I live by this motto too "life is short, dun spend time worrying about yur hair, it will grow back.." I have got friend whom keep the same hairstyle for the 20 years I have know her, she is simply too afraid to change her hairstyle. Love your bangs, I had mine for 2 months too.
I love it! It makes you look so much younger even though you look very young anyway. I have the same problem with hair stylists cutting my hair. They always mess up and make mistakes, so I cut and color my own hair now. I love my hair cuts and color. And if I mess up, I just remind myself that I didn't have to pay $85.00 to have someone else mess up! Kuddos to you!

I used ot have and love bangs. I had it cut by a hairdresser the first time, and after that i kept cutting it myself every now and then and even made it into a V shape and U shape, pin up short and long to almost cover my eyes, very blunt and piecey... I love what it does for my high forehead, but the thing is, it just gets dirty too soon for me (I can get away with washing my hair every 5/7 days but my bangs needed washing every 3 days!).
I hate hair places here too :C Back home when I asked for those bangs I'll always say I wanted them 'choppy'. They looked just like yours! I'm glad I found this tutorial :D

At first I tought you were going to cut from you almost cutting your bangs, to you with bangs, and then say it was only extensions, so i did think you were crazy for a sec when you started actually cutting it on camera, but it looks really good! It makes you look younger and gives you a preppy look which I think suits you ^^
We call it fringe in the uk and i have mine the exact same but luckly the hair dressers know what u mean when u tell them and they do it xx it really suits u :)

I realised that people with bangs, i remember more easily. Its kind of like the first impression of a person and bangs create that character.

Hair around your face is naturally more fragile and fine so that piece might have broken off from heat styling ;)

Yeah I cut my own bangs as well, I rather screw up my own hair than to pay someone to do it.

Continual frustration lead me to learn how to cut my (& friends) hair from online tutorials & books. Lovely! Your use of a quasi point cutting technique works well to create the peicy look! I agree- bad stylists are awful! When sharing pics & telling them what you want- it's like they've already got an idea in mind for what THEY want to do. Never be afraid to stop mid-haircut if you notice that a stylist isn't doing what you asked them to! It can be hard to speak up but you'll be glad you did!

Looks amazing, Julia, should have had you cutting my bangs a week ago...The woman I went to is supposed to be a professional stylist, but you'd never know it. I have had my bangs cut many times before, and I know pretty much how bangs are supposed to be cut, and that, most of the time, they are not as screwed up as mine. She simply moistened my hair, combed a bit down over my eyes, and, by God, she cut me some bangs...nothing like I asked for or wanted..Just one little area shorter than the rest of my hair, like a peephole to see through, no attempt at making them THICK, and I specified I wanted thick, full bangs angled into the rest of my hair..I had a trim of the bottom, which she did beautifully, but this woman obviously does not know how to cut bangs...I know, they'll grow, but it's dealing with them until then...anyone, you did a fantastic job...New Subbie here. :-)

I LOVE THEM!! Makes me want bangs but I DO NOT trust myself to cut them in myself. Maybe I could trim them myself, but I'd never attempt to style them. Great job.
Nice bangs, Julia! I have been doing this for years. Only ONE hair-dresser has managed to cut my bangs nicely throughout the years and she is nowhere to be found right now. I cut 'em, I style 'em and now that I got the hang of it, I do not let anyone else, but me to touch them :-)
To stop your bangs from separating where your parting was you blow dry while hair is still very wet,you did a great job x

Love the bangs! I too have been thinking about cutting my bangs. My hair is not straight nor super curly, so my hair has a mind of its own when its short. But after seeing your results, I may just try bangs again.
When I saw your bangs on my facebook & you asked real or clip ins I thought they looked real but I answered clip ins.Now I see you really did it & I am a hairdresser. A lot of hairdressers do take the scissors & chop up like you did.It's called point cutting.I have had bangs for yrs now & finally started growing them out last July.They are coming back in style but it seems to be slow catching on.Razor cuts are never good. They make your hair a whole lot more frizzy & tend to cause split ends.
At first I thought this was a joke, then I was scared for you, then I thought for sure she's gonna stop and go get it done by a pro - you sure got me on a roller coaster ride this time Julia! I don't think I'll have the guts to do this to myself anytime soon. I'm pretty lucky with the stylists in my city though. So relieved it turned out well for you!
You did a great job. I'm all about DIY haircuts. Took a few disasters, but once you get the hang of it, you can do a better job than most stylists.
And when you part the hair to cut a bang you want to part it into a triangle from the center. It helps the bang to look fuller and gives you a better shape!

Sieht absolut klasse aus! Finde ich super, dass du das einfach so kurzentschlossen machst. Ich hatte vor einem Jahr auch einen Pony, gefiel mir gut, aber ich kam leider überhaupt nicht damit zu recht, weil ich megafeine Haare habe. Mittlerweile ist wieder alles rausgewachsen.

I've cut those kind of bangs on someone before. You round out the edges so they frame the face and then point cut as you did. Honestly, I took cosmetology in America and I learned that exact way of cutting bangs. In fact, it's usually preferred over a blunt cut bang.
I love it! I thought for sure it was clip-ins but I love bangs on you :) I wish I could have bangs but I have very thin hair so I can't really cut enough, they end up looking way too wispy. I'm very much of the same opinion that it's just hair. I've cut it, dyed it, lightened it, whatever. I have always had a hard time finding a good hair dresser as well so I end up just doing it myself.

Just a tip for next time. If you take that section, twist it once and cut straight across (below the twist,) you will end up with face framing bangs that are actually pretty straight.
I live by this motto too "life is short, dun spend time worrying about yur hair, it will grow back.." I have got friend whom keep the same hairstyle for the 20 years I have know her, she is simply too afraid to change her hairstyle. Love your bangs, I had mine for 2 months too.
I love it! It makes you look so much younger even though you look very young anyway. I have the same problem with hair stylists cutting my hair. They always mess up and make mistakes, so I cut and color my own hair now. I love my hair cuts and color. And if I mess up, I just remind myself that I didn't have to pay $85.00 to have someone else mess up!

I used ot have and love bangs. I had it cut by a hairdresser the first time, and after that i kept cutting it myself every now and then and even made it into a V shape and U shape, pin up short and long to almost cover my eyes, very blunt and piecey... I love what it does for my high forehead, but the thing is, it just gets dirty too soon for me (I can get away with washing my hair every 5/7 days but my bangs needed washing every 3 days!).
I think you just convinced me to try this. I've been debating doing it for a while now. But hey it's hair it always grows back

At first I tought you were going to cut from you almost cutting your bangs, to you with bangs, and then say it was only extensions, so i did think you were crazy for a sec when you started actually cutting it on camera, but it looks really good! It makes you look younger and gives you a preppy look which I think suits you ^^
We call it fringe in the uk and i have mine the exact same but luckly the hair dressers know what u mean when u tell them and they do it xx it really suits u :)
