This and James Rolfe's Godzillathon videos really help you appreciate the character and his history. From a symbol of atomic terror to a monster bashing friend of mankind and everything in between. My first real Godzilla movie was "Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2" back when i was in middle school. I always saw the character in parodies and homages and admired him before (mainly for the simple fact that he's a giant dinosaur with nuclear breath) but after actually seeing one of his movies, I now completely understood why he's so beloved around the world. Happy 60th big guy.
Thanks a lot for this documentary, from Brazil.
I think its weird how a culture so cemented in the protection of freedoms and liberty can somehow find it ok to take them away from others. A round of applause for my Uncle Sam everyone, because we know he's listening.
I remember now yeah. The evening was a bit of a plug for the '98 movie, get a bit of interest in the genre. In the UK Godzilla movies were normally confined to late night triple-bills on Channel 4, ususally from the late Showa era.
Awesome book by the way!
All uploaded, glad you liked it. I hope sooner or later the BBC put this stuff out on iplayer. I guess they've got so many documentaries it'd take ages to go through.
The documentary was made in the mid 90s. It was part of an awesome "monster night" which I'll upload soon enough.
what if the daleks saw godzilla on that bridge as they were rolling across and were like: "what the hell?" lol
Weeping Angels would see Gojira and be like..."Yeah...fuck that..."
'I thought of Godzilla as the embodiment of violence and hatred for mankind ...'- Jun Fukuda. The guy who directed Megalon!! I dunno ... i'm not seeing that in his movies.
Keep in mind who was writing his paycheck, and their biggest audience at the time
It's funny since England has their own godzilla called Gorgo, that was something I wish i could find again watched it all the time when i was lil
Great stuff! Godzilla, loved him as a child...love him even more as a 47 year old!
at timeframe 3:50 - that is between Akihabara stations and Ueno station - that is where that Café Veloce is. Haven't lived in Japan for a while but I recognize the spot.
@Dinozilla626
The movie is called Destroy All Monsters. The scenes taken from the end of the film where the Alien Invader Bad Guys base is discovered by Godzilla and he gets his payback on them for taking control of his mind.
...just over 8 months until the next Godzilla (2014) movie... yay!
I remember taping this. I still have the video somewhere.
Thanks and cheers!
Oh how it irks me that the creators of the 1998 Godzilla are here, too.
Seeing Godzilla grab Big Ben reminds me of Gorgo for some reason. :-)
I love how Godzilla apparently sneezes his atomic ray in Britain.
The Godzilla music is Awesome...
This documentary was shot in 1998; I know, because I provided the Beeb with some of the Japanese interview subjects, and I was one myself!
August Ragone
Author EIJI TSUBURAYA: MASTER OF MONSTERS
Godzilla needs to return soon very soon
with a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound he pulls the spitting high tension wires down
They say he's got to go…
The godzilla in the intro is a better tribute to godzilla than the '98 remake...
That introduction was more accurate than Zilla (1998)
Nakajima-San was only in the suit for 54 to 72 not 75
The Godzilla suit in the beginning would make the 1967 costume iconic in comparison. :-(
It's annoying how this is an English documentary and there are only two region 2 Godzilla films I EVER recall of: King Kong vs Godzilla and Godzilla 1998.
Please! We English NEED to see these films!
You know, back in the 60's Great Britain made their own Kaiju flick called Gorgo.
Godzilla wants a hug
WHERE IS HE?! I'LL HUG HIM!!
@thekillerklown13
Makes the suit from Son of Godzilla look like the best one ever.
If only Godzilla would destroy the BBC like that.
Could the Rhedosaurus breathe nuclear flames, regenerate, walk upright and be so strong that only a weapon that destroys oxygen could defeat it?
Weird, this is a 1998 documentary and the awful Godzilla suit at the beggining is more godzilla like than the creature in the american version movie of the same year.
Their it is... I still and forever call the 1998 film a remake of "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms"... they just got the title card messed up and called it "Godzilla" by accident, lol.
6:44 I met him once. He signed by copy of Rodan on DVD.
Where can I find Godzilla documentary from1988 and made by the BBC ?
This is a great made of Godzilla by the b.b.c. on Godzilla history told by the Japanese to find out about the history
@ThePajamaGuy you can also get the original and it has some decent special features aswell
i love how it carefully walks OVER the train. lol
Who is that man at the end who was in 7 Samurai, does anyone recognized him from that movie? he said he was working on it for a full year so I doubt he was an extra, probably one of the villagers but just wondering if he was the stand out type.
He played "Rikichi", the young villager whose wife was taken by the bandits.
i love godzilla
@TheDarkofTommy Yeah sorry about that, it's from a very old vhs tape.
0:09 Godzilla walking and rampaging on the road next to you, walk calmly like nothing happened.
I AM GODZILLA 'S FAN FOR A YEAR ALSO GAMERA'S FAN TOO , ANYWAY ,I WOULD LIKE TO ASK WHEN WILL NEW GODZILLA BE RELEASE FOR THE DVD ? EVEN WITH GAMERA 'S NEW DVD,
I NEED IT TO RELEASE VERY SOON AS POSSBILE ,,, THANK YOU GODZILLA & GAMERA
He will...he will.
godzilla got serious swag
The translation on the subtitle was inaccurate! Is this really from BBC?
Godzilla is badass
yeah where were you. That is old news
I know the war was very bad .. but im glad it happend because if it diddnt we wouldent have godzilla
I saw this when I was Little
Not just you. It's like everyone has a lisp of some sort....they all sound like they whistle when they speak.
this will always top zilla
0:26-0:28 his tail went through the bridge...also fire breathing? no he does not
I liked the intro it was funny
GODZILLA is the KING!!!
totally 90's!
i like in the beginning you see godzilla and the people are just walking like neh i see giant radioactive lizards everyday
Which godzilla movie is that at 2:26?
Actually, Ray Harryhausen's 'Beast From 20,000 Fathoms' ~inspired~ Godzilla, but I can't call Godzilla a copycat idea!!! By the way, I am a fan of Ray Harryhausen, and a fan of Godzilla as well!
Wheres the doctor when you need him?
God I love it when Japanese people say "gojira"
After seeing the original Japanese version of Godzilla, Gojira, I have no time for Godzilla. Gojira is a great sci fi film, while Godzilla is for kids.
in the engilsh verisons he's called Godziller GODZILLER WTF?
To be fair even in the Japanese versions of the later films called him Godzilla as well
1st time seeing this! The British break it down like dirty!
the big ben part is like people didn't give any fuck to godzilla,it just an usual day
I'm a fan to guy's.
yeah i got it too
HARUO NAKAJIMA! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!
Why are the legs of the 2014 godzilla so skinny. And the feet so small. From the waist down he doesn't look right.
You'll have to just ignore, atleast it's better than 1998 godzilla
360Pop Up that thing. They tried to pass off as godzilla in the 80s MOVIE. No way. Enjoy the New movie
360Pop Up It wasn't a Godzilla movie. It was a monster movie which managed to score the same name as the legend. Don't judge them by the same standards.
So it seems to me that the idea of Godzilla Was born from an atomic bomb. So from a certain perspective Godzilla's origin story is 100% true
WHY way Dean Delvin allowed to speak on this
Godzilla >>>KING
RUN ITS GODZILLA¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
collect the story boards
The American one is which is now called Zilla, the Japanese Godzilla was always a male.
fair enough i am 89 years old
DAT INTRO!
why the fuck is dean devlin there?
I escaped after living under a rock for 80 years, so don' make fun of me :'(
Who else hears that erritating beeping sound in this?
did anyone else get that little freaking annoying noise while they were watching this video?
look at gojira in the beggining look no good oh bbc why!
Godzilla looks like ogra from gorgo.
What was that abomination in the intro. If it was the gman. WHY
That intro hurt me
So you can say the American participated in the creation of Godzilla... By dropping a bomb.
dat intro
Tsuchiya FTW
Screw Godzilla, someone step on that cricket.
Godzilla in London? what😁
Godzilla can go anywhere 😃
Gorgon and the movie producers were engaged in an ugly contract dispute. 😂😂😂😂😂
GOJIRA!
yeah. sounds like a fucking cricket in my fucking notebook
Yeah, the suit is horrible. :/
You can watch Godzilla movies for free on Crackle . com
goldzilla kicked king kongs asss
That background noise is raping my fucking ears.
I dislike the 1998 Godzilla! I look at it and think "THAT is not Godzilla!" (What were they thinking when they created that as a rendition of Godzilla?) The whole movie was more like Jurassic Park than Godzilla!!!
yeah I guess lol
The beginning part had shown one of the worst and most *Terrible* Godzilla suite i have ever seen in my entire life bar none.
godzilla is ugly in the beginning
