The original All Weather Leather bags were made in the USA. The leather on those bags was actually thicker and the hardware was solid brass. They were also unlined like vintage Coach bags. Like so many companies though, the bags are now made overseas to save on costs. Still a quality product though!
I have that bag and love it! One complaint that people have is that it is heavy. It is a heavier bag than my other ones, especially since I carry a lot of stuff, but the bag is very very nice!
These vintage D&B all weather bags are some of the best I've ever had the pleasure to touch and hold in my 30+ years collecting bags. D&B are basically unknown here in Northern Europe, the ones I bought from the USA wouldn't be worth anything here if I tried to sell them, noone cares about them. Mine are all black pebbled leather, all weather.
Btw, I also live in DFW. Laying the bag on the car's hood in the dead of Summer was the biggest test of all. The fact that it survived the hood's 150° is what REALLY proved how amazing the leather is.😂
I have a couple of D+B bags. One of them is from 1985! Still holding up beautifully the other one is a newer one from a few years ago- like new! Dooney bags last forever!
That is literally NOT what he said. He said, in a nutshell, that FOR THE LOWER PRICEPOINT, ITS A GREAT BAG. But the bad QA in that outward piece of leather, thin internal leather being worse, no weather treatment on the trim, the unclean leather internally, Would make those bags not worth more than than $200 for me. I'm older, and remember when all these bag companies had the best quality. These bags lost their quality. Especially with the cheaper hardware that WILL DISCOLOR QUICKLY. I don't spend more than $80 on bags with cheap hardware, so this would be a pass for me. Also the designs are too matronly and "midwest" for me. This is why, aesthetically, I would always pick a Coach over a D&B, but Coach's quality is almost just as inferior. Tanner did a deconstruction of a Coach bag, and found the same type of cost cutting practices with them. I only own Coach vintage bags now. Problem with Coach is, their prices went up, for worse quality bags. They actually make PU leather bags now, and try to pass them off as leather..... "No Bueno"
@@c16621 I prefer Dooney regardless. My comment did not imply Tanner said anything about the bag being the best. That's my perspective as we're all entitled to express them. Thanks for sharing yours.
2:13 you should take a look at the other line that the Dooney founder created - Henry’s Leather Co. Their Henry’s Crossbody bag is a close dupe to the Hermes Evelyn. On the archive of the Henry’s website, the pebble grain leathers come from Les Tanneries Roux, and they use palladium hardware.
D & B bags aren’t so trendy, but they’re solid and quality, especially the vintage Made In America ones. I have several, both recent and vintage, and they’re both classy and absolute workhorses. I’d rather have “all go and no show” rather than vice versa, myself, if I had to choose.
Thanks for covering this! Their leather quality tbh is amazing.. one of the most amazing leathers in handbags i have ever felt. I own a few and they have been with me for 8 years.. tbh the quality of their works are more impressive than so many “luxury” brands
I have an original bucket bag from the 80s. My ex-mother-in-law gave it to me in 2008. Her sister bought it new in California and carried it forever, then my mother-in-law had it and carried it, and now I have it. I did not give it back after the divorce..lol It is showing wear on the piping, but its insanely well made and sturdy. I think it's the combination of just the heavy unlined all weather leather and the brass fittings. The feet on the bottom are a game changer. It really is crazy if you think about it. This is a purse that is over 40 years old. And i love it. My son(who is an adult now) called it "The Black Hole." Because he would always dig in my purse for gum and tictacs and they'd be at the bottom.😂 It was my daily purse for many years, but I do not carry it every day now as it is getting older.
I was so excited when I saw this pop up! I’m especially excited to see it deconstructed and put to the test. I knew it was a great brand. This is what the website says about the hardware. Vintage double 24k gold and black gold plated hardware, at a 0.25 micron thickness. A thicker plating would probably raise the price point a bit. Thanks for the very informative look into Dooney & Bourke. 😁
I really enjoyed this fun type of video. The Italian leathers from Dooney and Bourke are the Florentine and Alto collections. They have several different collections on their website and different types of leathers. Thank you for reviewing this one as I wanted to know if the new version was as good as the vintage all weather leathers.
I love your voice! Thanks for sharing your lovely *gtdupe* bag / wardrobe collection :) I actually love how you store your collection and definitely an inspiration for me in my future home
The Dooney and Bourke Florentine leather collection is vegetable tanned Italian leather. It’s one of their higher end lines and the construction and hardware quality are a step up overall. Since you have said that you love a good natural leather finish, you should take a look at those.
Great video! My first bag was a Dooney in the 90’s so the brand will always have sentimental value. I would love reviews for Tory Burch quilted, Mulberry and Kate spade quilted.
PSA: if you have a quite old Dooney that’s faded a little, don’t apply pigmented leather cream to it, as the excellence of the All-Weather Leather will come back to bite you! The leather won’t absorb the color and it will look blotchy and bad. Ask me how I know… 🤦🏼♀️
My daily bags are 35 years old-a Dooney AWL square carrier and a Coach station bag. The Coach is lighter to carry and more sophisticated looking, but the D&B is absolutely bulletproof.
I had a few D&B bags, but gave the last one to a friend a few months ago. I loved them all, but needed space for a couple of newer bags, and know that after 20+ years, I got my use out of them. Besides, the forest green hobo bag, which came with a change purse, was a great bag-but its lack of structure made it impossible dor me to find anything. This is a me problem, not a bag problem. There was a while there in the 2000s when D&B had some It bags, but I always put them in the Coach category before they hit it with the Tabby. Simply american leather brands with a ton of variety and bags that wear extremely well.
Dooney is known for their All Weather Leather. It's so crazy how they have perfected it so well that it has minimal finish while STILL being "weatherproof." But, yes, their dust bags are some of the worst on the market!😂😩 Thank you for doing a Dooney review! PLEEEASE review something from their Florentine collection. It's full grain, vegetable tanned leather.
Dooney is my weakness. Their Florentine leather collection is my ab fave. The Florentine and the Alto collections are from Italy--I think. Don't quote me, but do test them.
Hi 👋 Tanner fellow Texan Here!! I’m not surprised but I am relieved 😅 us Dooney lovers say the same about the dust bag but I would rather have a great bag at a great price than a fancy dustbag. It keeps the dust off anyway 😂 justbFYI they source a lot if their leather from Italy but their Alto Collection in particular is the one that is actually made in Italy and reflects the price. I have been a Dooney lover since I was in highschool when I could not afford it and finally I have well let’s just say several 😏 it’s an excellent brand I am so glad you did a review on a current bag and I am sooo happy it past the test. To me Dooney is beyond luxury. THANKS FOR REVIEW and evil 😈 Tanner you were a blast. BTW I’ve been watching for a long time this one got you me to subscribe. 😉 👛🛍️🚢🙏🦆
Injecting humour and slice-of-life moments: such a nice touch Volkan, this might help broaden your appeal to a wider market! And, as usual, kudos to a fantastic review of an item from a well-respected but currently not very popular brand!
Dooney and Bourke is awesome!! If you wanna nice affordable bag, I definitely recommend this brand. My mom has 2 All Weather bags from the 90s that are still in decent condition. I would like to see a review on the Florentine and Alto leather collections from Dooney and Bourke. Those are the higher end collections.
As a long time fan of Dooney and someone who has several All Weather Leather pieces, I found this to be very interesting--as well as being entertaining. It's not every day you get to see someone drive around with a bag attached to the hood of their car! I'd like to see you do a review of an Aigner bag, they have recently revived this brand and I am curious to see how the quality compares with other bags as I think the pricing is ridiculous.
I remember Etienne Aigner having a great reputation over 30 years ago, but I’m always concerned about what happens to a brand when it’s founder dies and I couldn’t find any info that indicates that the brand remained in the hands of family or anyone committed to maintaining the brand’s quality. I have an Aigner bag that’s over 30 years old. It’s a structured leather bag in tightly woven leather that looks like raffia. It’s a classic design and it’s in excellent condition. The bags I saw on the brand’s website looked like they’re inspired by the current trends and outside of bearing the classic Aigner horseshoe logo, none of the bags gave off classic Aigner vibes. But the times do change.
@@wannabe41 Agree completely. I was a huge fan in the past, but the brand has changed hands several times and now they've dropped the Etienne part and are just going by Aigner. I even have some questions about their "story" as well, and the pricing is way more than what it ever was in the past, even with inflation. That's why I suggested them, I get fakery vibes big time.
I’ve collected vintage Dooney and Bourke (usually the all weather) for a few years. They’re truly the best. I never have to worry whether conditions will affect the bags… they’re basically indestructible. Well, except for when they cross paths with you 😂
Another great video! You're reigniting my passion for bags... so much that I went back to my cupboard just now to see what I have held on to. I found a vintage mulberry chilling with some radley bags and a dkny vintage canvas bag. I sold them on, but I had a handful of cowboys bags, they're fairly popular out here in the Netherlands. Their older models were made out of really thick, heavy hides. Hence why I sold them, they were just too heavy for me. Would you consider taking a modern cowboys bag apart Tanner? I would love to see what you think of them! They don't fall under the category 'luxury' but are they good value for money?
You should do a Dior bag! There’s a huge scandal involved with how they mass produce their items. Your price analysis is very spot on with the pricing of these bags!
It is possible to make aniline leather just as waterproof. Triple tanned, chrome, mineral and veg combined with high density oil and waxes and pfte stuffed at multiple stages. There is also russia leather if all natural is wanted. Finishing the leather with pigment is just a cheap practice that has no place in quality craftmanship. Also considering the bad QC of this bag i would not call that price multiplicator justified. Thanks for letting us know to avoid it though!
I would like to understand more about the craftsmanship and leather quality of the brand Balenciaga, particularly their edge finishing, stitching, and leather quality. There's very little testing or information available on these aspects. Additionally, I'm curious about the term "waxed leather" and why brands like YSL, Balenciaga, and Prada seem to have issues with leather easily cracking.
@@HauteGemsDallas Really? In fact, the advertising incident that caused a stir is already a thing of the past as of 2022. I don't quite understand why some people still consider it so important. As far as I know, the brand Balenciaga always incorporates elements that may be satirical into its designs or advertisements. I think that particular ad, although not very dignified, could also have been intended to satirize certain things. You may not know, but unlike in Europe and America, there wasn't such a huge wave of protests in the Asian region. Although there was an impact, sales in the Asian region have continued to steadily rise after the designer's apology. This also proves that consumers in Asia actually don't mind this controversy as much as you do.
I recently discovered an Italian brand, Bottega Giotti and had the opportunity to visit the store in Firenze and got myself a butter soft nappa clutch. I had to wait a few weeks for it to be made. If you can would love to see a review of their leather and craftsmanship. They sell online too.
20 years ago I washed a white B Makowsky leather bag in my washing machine and air dried it. It came out beautifully! However, I don’t think I would have a good result if I did that with bags made recently.
Can you please do a review of Maria Oliver bags? It’s a Spanish handbag brand that uses exotic leather, but priced relatively more affordable compared to most premium luxury brands. I bought one last year and absolutely loved it, and I am considering buying another one.
Great review, thank you for sharing. Can you do a review on the leather bags, shoes, wallets etc., from the 80's era made by Etienne Aigner. If I remember, many of the items were actual real leather and not vinyl similar items of today.
I love D&B. Great bags for reasonable prices. The packaging is not glamorous, but the bags are wonderful. In all my years of buying Dooney, I never got the "wheel of fortune". Absolutely hilarious! If you find time, please deconstruct the Henry's line from Dooney and Bourke. I would love to hear your opinion.
I was thinking that too; does anyone actually use the dust bags? I just repurpose em for shopping bags. If I use a purse rarely enough that it gets dusty, surely I should rehome it…
Another great video, Tanner! I would love to see Frye & Cole Haan bag reviews. I'm both sorry we're losing you to Spain & jealous! Are you & your family taking Spanish lessons?🥰🌻
Yes, I will do a Frye soon. But I have done some Cole Haans plus I used so many of their products and love them for the most part. We will take Spanish lessons as soon as we arrive there in September. We will be back to US at some point perhaps after a few years there.
Will you do a review of the DIY kits from Babylon Leather? I’m very new to leather crafts and have been dipping my toes into the water so to speak by assembling their Birken Bag kit. I’d love to hear your thoughts!!
The original made in USA D&B all weather bags were simply great and tough. IMHO, since their production went to China, their quality rapidly went downhill.
Agreed. No unnecessary theatrics I have to pay through the nose for; just a solid, quality, classic bag that will last for decades and not go out of style.
Dooney and Burke used to be the absolute best when the bags were manufactured in Connecticut. They are now made in China. I have a bag that I bought in 1998. This bag looks new to date. I bought a another one about 3 years ago. It fell apart in a year. 😢
Can you review “the horse” brand pleaaase. Im super interested to try their popular style “Clementine” but also would like to know what kind of leather they use. They have a great price too. Thanks Tanner.
I wonder if you can do a review of the brand Bona Ventura. In person, their bags and leather goods look decent in quality and the price isn't as premium as the main luxury brands most people hear of.
Is it too much to ask for Givenchy bags review. Antigona is one of their classic models, which unlike many brands sometimes goes on sale and retails at quite an affordable (for luxury brands) price point of £13-14k. I am quite curious to hear about the quality of the bag. It is quite structured but is also soft and the leather looks not too processed.
I thought you had moved to Europe but if you're still in Dallas, hopefully I'll see you drive around with another bag strapped to the hood of your car! 😄
Love your channel👍. Would be awesome if you could review OROTON brand from Australia and DEADLY PONIES brand from New Zealand. Oroton has been established since 1938. Believe the company has up and down moment. Recently I just purchased their mica bag which I think looks very nice. While for deadly ponies, they are using NZ Merino Bulle Lamb Nappa on one of their style and I am intrigued to find out more.

Thanks for the video. Could you please cover Mulberry bags soon?
Thanks for watching! Mulberry bags is on my review list. Thank you for the suggestion!
Can you please do a review of Maria Oliver bags? It’s a Spanish handbag brand that uses exotic leather, but priced relatively more affordable compared to most premium luxury brands. I bought one last year and absolutely loved it, and I am considering buying another one.
Just added them to my list. Thank you!
I'll see if I can get more of their products to review. Thank you! 😊
Yaaay dooney and burke! Is my current go-to? I think they are BETTER THAN COACH! 😊
Definitely pleased with what I saw here. Might be one of my new favorite brands!
Wow!!! I feel validated in my choice of Dooney, especially Florentine, bags.❤🌻
So glad you tested D&B, a faaaaav
Yay time for Dooney! No one loves those dust bags. I knew this would stand all the tests! 🙌🏼
I think it is better if they don't send a dust bag
I love Dooney! Please do a Florentine and a Saffiano leather bag next from Dooney and Bourke!
Thanks for all these informative, educational videos. Would like to see you deconstruct a BruceGao’s crocodile/alligator handbags.
My first expensive bag was a DB -I was 22 yrs old -I’m 46 now-took me forever to save up and I’ve been a fan ever since.
glad to hear your good experience with the brand. Indeed it proved that they use very high caliber leathers and their price is not bad for the quality
Will you do a review of the DIY kits from Babylon Leather? I’m very new to leather crafts and have been dipping my toes into the water so to speak by assembling their Birken Bag kit. I’d love to hear your thoughts!!
Dooney and Bourke for the perpetual win. Over 75 years and counting....My preferred designer.
The original made in USA D&B all weather bags were simply great and tough. IMHO, since their production went to China, their quality rapidly went downhill.
Yep, love Dooney & Bourke ❤. Well made, genuine leather, & no stupid games like LV or Hermes.
Very straight forward value delivery. I like seeing that as a leather enthusiast
great video, fun, entertaining and informative!! thanks for putting a lot of effort to help consumers 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for watching!
please test the bags of Maison Guibert Paris ❤❤❤
Rebecca Minkoff has a similarly styled bag. Not sure if they say its water resistant tho.
This was a great video. Can you do the new Coach Empire bag next?
Glad you enjoyed the video! I’ve seen the new Coach Empire bag and it's already on my list.
Can you review “the horse” brand pleaaase. Im super interested to try their popular style “Clementine” but also would like to know what kind of leather they use. They have a great price too. Thanks Tanner.
Can you also try the brand PEDRO? Im curious on how they describe the wallet made of calf leather.
They're on my list! Thanks for the suggestion!
Honestly Dooney’s quality has gone way down on some of their bags in my opinion. I have bought and returned quite a few due to poor quality.
@@plannermumsy I think the ones made in Mexico or Italy are still good, but outsourcing never seems to be good for quality…
?can you do Celine review? Thanks
I wonder if you can do a review of the brand Bona Ventura. In person, their bags and leather goods look decent in quality and the price isn't as premium as the main luxury brands most people hear of.
They raised the sale price of the bag. It's now $269 sale 😢.
Fabulous video. Would you consider reviewing Patricia Nash if you haven’t already
Please review BASILE handbags 😊
Hi, can you do some reviews of other leather products such as leather jackets? leather shoes?
How about reviewing coach outlet leather bags and portland leather bags.
He's done both of these brands already. Check his video list, I believe both in the past year. He didn't torture those bags though! 😂
Would love to see a video of you testing different watch strap brands. Is a $200 strap better than a $50 strap.
Could you do the celine Classic Box Bag please
Is it too much to ask for Givenchy bags review. Antigona is one of their classic models, which unlike many brands sometimes goes on sale and retails at quite an affordable (for luxury brands) price point of £13-14k. I am quite curious to hear about the quality of the bag. It is quite structured but is also soft and the leather looks not too processed.
This is the content I want!!!!
I thought you had moved to Europe but if you're still in Dallas, hopefully I'll see you drive around with another bag strapped to the hood of your car! 😄
Love your channel! Can you dissect a leather bag from French brand A.P.C. please 🙏🏼
Thank you for you kind words! A.P.C. is already on my review list.
Dooooney! 🙌🏻
Please do a review of Frye, Bally, or Anya Hindmarch.
Thank you for the suggestions! All three brands are on the list.
It would also be fun to see how American made brands compare to bags made in Spain and Italy. Frank Clegg, Colonel Littleton, Buffalo Billfold Co. and many others... @@tanner.leatherstein
Amazing video and content as usual . Just thinking that it's always better to avoid showing the front of the house / street 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate the feedback and advice!
What a fun test! 😄
Right! Haha, thank you!
TannerLeatherstein your bag that you designed and made did you retail all the bags ? Or are they available to purchase Thanks in advance
Yes, www.pegai.com is my brand
My vintage All Weather Leather bags and shoes are some of the best I own.
