Very cool! REAL ALCO sounds....even better. The video is especially crisp for UA-cam Thanks for not just focusing on the SAL unit. 8604 is of great interest to me as it is a late PRR unit with the angled numberboards. I would have loved to see and hear it run. Looking out the firemans door when she notched up a bit was excellent
I volunteer at the museum this is an excelent video of our early years and we do currently have plans to return 1633 to service she needs work on her govenor and she has a short in a traction motor which unfortunately are costly repaires how ever once she is fixed 1633 while pull special trains through out the year check The Florida Railroad museums sites to update or donate to the museum to help find these projects
It's a shame these old locomotives sit and rust. Glenn Miley told me that 8604 is never going to run again. It's missing a TON of parts, a lot of them are on 1633.
2015 update: 1633 has been getting some mechanical attention, and it's possible that she might rumble to life again. 8604 is never moving again. The Pennsylvania unit is instead used as a scrap engine for 1633, as it's hard to get parts for ALCO 244's these days.
I'm back volunteering at the Florida Railroad Museum. Whatever plans we had on bringing back #1633 are no more. Unless a miracle happens, #1633 will remain on display in Willow Yard.
Adam Swindell Dude I know. My grandfather has a ranch with lots of vintage farm equipment. I know a lot about mechanical things and what happens to them when they sit unused for a long time.
Both ALCO RS3s at the Florida Railroad Museum are non-operational, with 1633 being the most intact. We have ex-Conrad Yelvington ALCO S2M #251 and it still runs.

crazyman762 PRR 8604 is cannibalized for replacement parts to keep 1633 running.
5:03 The two Geeps went straight through my home town of Bushnell. That is so awesome!!!
3:50 I LOVE THAT SOUND!!!!

The GP7's are ex-U S Army units and were delivered with switcher trucks. NC&StL had some like that also.
At the moment 1633 is sitting just outside Willow waiting repairs. It will run but there's a short in one of the traction motors from what I remember.
An RS-11? Wow! That's a rare locomotive!

1633 is not retired. It just needs to be fixed. 8604 is retired. 1633 needs a new governor for the throttle and a new traction motor.
Why do the US Army Geeps have switcher trucks?
Because the Army specified that they be built with them for use mainly as switchers. NC&StL also had some GP7s with those trucks.

Adam Swindell Well, F*CK. I knew that would happen as long as it had been sitting.
Green And Orange Line Productions The only other way she'll see the mainline again is if we get alot of funds to restore her.

awesome alco's,Why did those GP7's have AAR type A switcher trucks?
They were ordered that way by the U S Army.
What happened to 8604 after it was retired?
It became a parts donor for the other RS3 and remains in storage at the museum.

What is that horn on 8604?
Leslie S-3L
5:10 that’s a BQ23-7! That should’ve been dropped off also!
where is this line located?
Parrish, Florida on US 301.
And the governor is broken, too.
We have two operating RS-3's in a similar paint scheme, check us out! We also have an ALCO RS-11
