Best friend probably holds the record for most throttle time on a C415. He got it on the Burlington Junction. He loved that loco.
I worked there when this was shot... a dangerous place, a man was killed here .
Really NiCE film !
I've never seen an Alco center cab before.....thanks.
Alco smoke show at 3:22 and 3:34 love how they gave these little switchers the same notched ends as the big 420s 425s 630s and 636s the fact they were running it instead of the parked EMD says a lot
thomasabramson100 That poor old EMD was shot, they had it for years as a spare unit that ran when one of the Alco S2's needed work, they got another EMD switcher from the Kenova plant after it shut down, it replaced an S6 at Kenova before coming here.
Had 10 of these on the Southern Pacific. They worked most of their life at the SP's City of Industry yard in SoCal just east of Los Angeles. They did have a unique sound and could get the job done. The biggest down fall was the cab space for the crews to work, it was very tight and uncomfortable!
My uncle worked for PFE in the Industry yard. He ran C415s and SW1200s.
Was just thinking that I like their look but what actually matters is how well they worked, and now I know that one element of how well they worked.
I remember this locomotive way back when in the Vancouver, Washington rail yard.
Thanks, Loved the sound of that engine, Ha, not so much smoke after all...
Was great to see this one in action, thank you fro sharing.
This video shows what a great America can do.Its unfortunate we now have a Government that hates hard work.
Sad thing is the model RR version is not a great runner
The Overland HO brass version runs real well, an SP version just sold on eBay for $1,650
@@chuckgilly most I have seen are an austrin one
Awesome this aint far from where I live. Love that sound!
Has it got dual controls
This reminded me of the SCOW at Port Talbot Ray...very interesting video...Thanks...Bob
I like these center cabs.. Thank you for sharing..
Nice to see some video of these brutes. Thanks!
Filthy dirty dangerous place, a guy was killed there in 1998
Hello, it was new to SP & S in 1968, same number. Thanks
My family and I used to live in Huntington, WV. I miss the sounds of the railyard.
I was there in February 2018,the entire operation has been ripped out, all that remains is the office building and the locomotive shop, and the small yard tower,I used to watch this place run 24/7,when I first visited in 1996,it had two ALCO S2's that were totally worn out with the green unit had destroyed wheels on the front truck, one of the engineers called it "Square Wheels".
WOW ! Are they still around ?
The entire operation was scrapped about 10 years ago
Ah, these must be from that brief period where ALCo thought this was Germany.
Huntington, WV
Only 28 made
Thanks fobrsharing these unique pictures - this the a very European looking loco and ALCOS are very fascinating in every respect!
i think only 4 of these are running even though train mag said 2..i could be wrong...there on the burlington junction railway..at strasburg theres a C415 with an extra short cab..it use to be a steel mill unit..i have vid of in in my trip to strasburg series..great vid
Sounded like an old John Deere tractor.
1500HP V8 4 STROKE 251F
GOOD 'OL.....ALCO!!!!......MORE!!!!!
Wow, amazing how this one almost doesn't smoke at all!
Why is that? It doesn't even seem to smoke much when reving, which suggests the turbo spools up quite quickly (I can hear it spool quickly as well).
+Benjamin „Ozias“ Esposti I would suppose because it is a 4-stroke turbocharged motor. Perhaps well maintained?
...THAT is one N-E-A-T-O looking engine...!! I wonder what year it was built
Are these two still in operation??
I believe they were scrapped a few years ago.
Ray Evans
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Adam Swindell they were run into the ground, they put to much weight on them and after the terminal closed they went up for sale. They needed way to much work. They would've been scrapped anyway.
How sad. I loved these two engines.
Adam Swindell anda
Thanks for this video of these extremy rare birds - they really look quite European! Wonderful - I love the ALCO-Sound! Oliver
Bellissimo video
Go trains
I believe one of the locomotives went to scrap. Ex SP&S 100 and 101
