When weight loss was my goal, back in 2017 & 2018, I had to be consistently super low-carb/keto for 18+ months. For me it was all or nothing, because I am severely insulin resistant. I was able to drop 60 pounds in a bit less than 2 years. I'm maintaining now and I watch my carbs very closely. If I don't, my weight creeps up. When this happens, I dial down the carbs again. My endocrinologist and cardiologist have given me their blessing. They agree with eating low-carb. It's great to have supportive doctors.
Very helpful, but still not common knowledge and certainly not advice given by most doctors. This method will slowly reduce your body fat, while also making you more insulin sensitive (reduce yourA1C). It is a disgrace and a disservice that the health community does not tell us this more often to more people. Thanks Kait!
Thank you Kait, You are 100% spot on. Here in the U.K. our health system is slowly catching up with the information that you are sharing with us. I am a type two diabetic and I endorse your videos 100%. May I wish you a Very Merry Christmas and look forward to following your advice in the future.
Thank you for talking about the protein problem for some of us! If I don’t stay high fat while eating protein I get spikes! The sugars, the inflammation, the weight gain all go together for me when I eat a lot of protein even with less than 10 total grams of carbs. I can’t eat more than twice a day too.
Right?! My doctor thinks my labs look better cause I'm doing something called "Meatless Mondays". Not once have I gone without meat protein. Gonna laugh in his face at the next checkup when I tell him what actually worked.
I believe I've been IR for at least 20 years. Was diagnosed 3 years ago. Been keto for at least 10 years and ended up having to go carnivore cause it's wasn't working even though it was better than S.A.D. I've been IF for about 3 years now and have been carnivore 8 months. I have finally seen results, but I'm still IR. Even though I've made progress, I still have a ways to go, and I have hit that infamous IR brick wall once again. Have not progressed in 4 months. I just recently added a 36-hour fast once a week (on my 4th week). Since I've started carnivore my A1C has gone from 5.7 to 5.9 and now 6.2 (fasting glucose went down to 99 from 113) The one issue that I've had all along dating back over 20 years is my inability to sleep. Although my sleep has improved from 4-5 hours a night, it is still only between 5 1/2- 6 1/2 hours. I don't do any devices 2 hours before bed, I go to sleep between 9-9:30 every night, and my dinner time is between 5-6 every night. I fall asleep just fine, but I wake up way too early. I have no control over this. I've even succumbed to taking Marijuana edibles before bed, which helps some nights but not all. I am retired, and my life has no stress (other than worrying about the state of my health) I have no doubt in my mind that sleep is interfering with my progress. I'm at a complete loss of how to conquer my sleep issues.......... (P.s. I also do weight training 4 days a week and walk almost every day, been doing so about 4 years now)
I watch and love your videos. I am saving this one to share with anyone who needs a comprehensive overview to get a start on the nutrition and lifestyle changes that do work! Thank you for the inspiration that you are giving to so many people. You are beautiful both inside and out.
Such great content beautifully explained. I’ve been working on my weight for the last few years and only by following this type of eating have I been able to make a difference.
This video is great! Thank you so much for explaining insulin resistance. You explained in a very basic way where anyone can understand. I’ve watched many videos and even had a dietitian who I loved actually but they never explained it as good as you do in this video❤❤❤ I feel less intimidated about making better choices and doing the work!
This is the first time I’ve heard about color walking. Sounds interesting. Reminds me of the kids games we employed when our kids were young when going on long trips in the car. Having them watch for specific things kept them occupied and less fractious - calm, in other words - than simply playing at whatever they came up with between themselves. Worth trying. Thanks!
Weight loss was not my goal, fat loss was. OMAD, 60% fat mostly from nuts and seeds and 20% each from carbs and protein, helped me shed 39 lbs / 18 kgs. That, coupled with fasted weight training and NEAT being my go-to form of movement, no specific cardio was undertaken. Find what works for you. 😃 The 1 gram of protein is an easy go-to metric, but it could lead to gluconeogenesis, which could in turn hamper getting leaner. I tend to gravitate to 0.75 per lb of ideal body weight-again, find what works for you. Thank you for uploading and sharing.
I have said this time and time and time again to anyone I’ve listened to regarding weight loss and insulin resistance…..how do you stop eating late at night?? I can go all day long without cravings and BOM evening hits and all I want to do is eat!! Don’t tell me to brush my teeth or just go to bed ( I don’t sleep well anyway due to fibromyalgia) Someone PLEASE give me the answer on HOW TO STOP THE NIGHTIME CRAVINGS!! Ughhh
If you are used to eating at that time your body will produce hunger/digestive hormones at that time in anticipation of food. Push through for a week and the cravings will be gone!
I love your clear and no-nonsense advice. Still, there are things I donot fully understand : my fasten Glucose is 103 mg/dl (ref. Is 79-99) but my fasten insulin is 68.4 pmol/L (ref, 18.0 - 173.0). So, one good and one not so good. If possible, could you do a video on this ? What's the correlation ? Thank you.
What bloodwork name is it to check insulin levels? My doctor just ordwres a full bloodwork panel I just wanna make sure he checked this also please. I’m struggling with losing weight
Months of smart food choices, high protein and fat and my weight wasn’t budging. Glucose was staying around 115. Now after one month of carnivore, I’ve lost 9 pounds. Sometimes I’ll add 1/2 avocado. My ketone level stays between .5-2.5 but glucose is still in the prediabetic range. I doubt that I’ll stay carnivore long term, but I’m really trying to get glucose in the 90’s or below.
I can fast but still need black coffee on rising. I have read mixed thoughts on drinking coffee. I make a 1/2 pot of caffeinated/ decaf and drink the whole pot. I crave it. What are yours Kait?Does it increase hunger hormone and causing me issues?
If my diet is zero near zero carbs, beef bacon butter eggs fish... no fruit no juicrd no grains no seed oils... will intermittent fasting remain relevant? Im 7 mos carnivore now, signif health improvmts seen. Carb cravings greatly reduced... fat is my friend... salt is my friend... beef is my friend... many prescription meds have left the building. My bp is normal 106/65... lost 20 lbs and still reducing my waistline... am 70. disabled but exercising more and have much more energy. Blood tests are great...
Less relevant but it can still help. What’s your feeding window like currently? But if you’re progressing towards your goals and feeling great I’d say stick with what you’re doing!
There is no phytonutrient that is an essential nutrient, so no you don’t need them. And what on earth does “cleansing” even mean in relation to food haha
@@HealthCoachKait this is why people wake up with cancer ond day and wonder why. There are tons of studies on what powerhouses phytonutrients are. There in tells me the problem of so called nutritionists not knowing what cleansing means and how certain foods like fruits cleanse our internal organs and much more.
Great explanation.. I’ve not been tested but I’ve struggled with any weight loss for years. High BMI, raised blood pressure and cholesterol. I need to loose at least 30 lbs or more to be in healthy weight range. It’s hard to excercise as I have osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia and always stiff and in pain. Although I eat a lot of processed foods I seem to be addicted to sugar and this is where I struggle. Where should I start … should I just slowly reduce the carbs or cut as much out as soon as possible ?
Trying to lose weight, nothing seems to work, and they feel miserable. [That part] 😅 Well said, thanks for the tips!🤗 Cravings & hunger are just always a thing and I don't want full blown diabetes. But it has been impossible to get the appetite and cravings under control and truly lose the weight I need to lose and keep it off. Hopefully I can get the balance going and stop the constant cravings for sugar, preferably chocolate for me and the appetite. I'm just not the best at balancing my foods. But these tips are certainly appreciated!! 🎉❤
Same her my guess is the disbalance in our gut (microbiome) and the daily stress (cortisol rising) sabotage our thoughts and make us craving for bad choices. It does not feel that way every moment, but with ptss every form of stress makes me fall of the wagon of trying to loose overweight😢 Yvonne
So not sure if this is also related to insulin resistance I know it is to cortizol but I don't have issue losing weight, I have issue putting on muscle. lol Could you do a video on that please?
Get into ketosis and remain there AND restrict calories a bit to force the body to use stored body fat for energy. Look up autophagy as well. There are many UA-cam videos on the subjects. Good luck!
The good news is kids can “bounce back” from it easier than adults! They will respond to changes quicker. I can’t give specific advice but I think the key is to focus on whole food, and limit processed food as much as possible. Focus less on the macros, whole food carbs will be ok, as long as there is enough protein. Of course getting some movement in will help, even if that’s just a daily walk.
It helps for sure! That’s one of the strategies I suggest for being “smart” about carbs. Protein, fat and fiber first slow digestion of carbs = less of a blood sugar spike = less insulin all at once.
Fabulous information! I love the colour walk idea! I already eat my dinner before 6pm and don't eat again until morning. During keto I didn't eat again until I had a salad lunch with meat. I was never hungry. 😊
It’s easier than said to run them low, without going to low- I need to lose weight and I’m type 1, I’m now going the other way and running my blood sugars between 8+14 that way my body thinks the energy is ther so it won’t store any fat.

Fasting insulin level
@lesliemc3043 A1c missed it unless it has progressed to prediabetes. You need to test insulin.

I have to snack because I get physically nauseous if I don’t eat. So I’ll snack on fruit or veggies usually or a protein shake.
If you get nauseous it's because you're insulin resistant and your body cannot dig into your fat reserves
Likely due to hypoglycaemia due to your insulin being too high. Protein/fat rich snacks will be best if you must eat ❤️
If a Glucerna drink is supposed to keep insulin levels in control, could a non diabetic use them along with intermittent fasting?
It’s easier than said to run them low, without going to low- I need to lose weight and I’m type 1, I’m now going the other way and running my blood sugars between 8+14 that way my body thinks the energy is ther so it won’t store any fat.
