Honestly, if you don't have the cat leash-trained (highly uncommon) or have the cat carrier out and ready to go, you may not have time to track down the cat (who may be hiding, on top of everything,) dig out the carrier, leash them/stuff them in the carrier, and then carry that to the shelter while a tornado is bearing down on you. When the siren goes off seconds count because the tornado is only minutes away. More often than not there simply isn't time to get the pets. Think of how much time it takes to find your cat and get it ready to travel. Now imagine trying to do that *_AND_* grab all the necessary medications *_AND_* immediate necessities... sadly, there simply is not time. 🤷 The way to solve that problem is to have a shelter of your own. That way the few minutes warning you have is sufficient time and you don't have to use any of it traveling to the community shelter.
@@lornamurdocheaton624 They are family members indeed. It's the cold calculus and hard choices of emergencies; do you take the medication that keeps your heart pumping, that controls your diabetes, that you won't be able to get any more of for days, possibly weeks? Do you take the necessary paperwork that you need to get loans and assistance, stuff that is only replaceable with great effort and inconvenience? If you think about these things ahead of time and put them in a bug out bag then things are much easier and smoother. Putting the pets in a secure location where they're easy to access without having to crawl under a bed or hunt high and low for instance. But most people don't plan. Most people don't think of things ahead of time and prepare. Most people wait until the last possible moment rather than making a smooth, stress-free, orderly evacuation say when a hurricane is known to be approaching and fixing to make landfall. That's why most people lined up with nothing but the clothes they wore when they fled, and why most pets get left behind.
Unfortunately they were not allowed a whole controversial post was made the morning before on the community page and no animals were allowed due to allergies, and there are certain things the city can’t have on their hands such as biting, scratching etc… people were mad but it was not allowed.
We have what we call go bags that we have things packed for ourselves and then we have go bags packed for each pet and we have them right beside their carriers. My new pup that’s with me all the time, I have a bag that’s ready for him. Material things I could care less about, but to lose a pet because I left it behind? That’ll never happen to me because I don’t leave my pets behind. They come with me. If there’s a danger and we’re told to go, they come with us.
So glad that you get the luxury of taking your pets, Barnsdall does not allow that at all and made it clear the morning before, so maybe instead of making this shitty comment trying to imply someone doesn’t care about their pets you could ask the city why they don’t allow pets in a public shelter.
I have read that some tornado sirens overheat and burn out if they run continuously. Therefore so are turned off intermittently during an emergency. It can be a deadly mistake to assume the treat has passed. The sirens are to warn those OUTSIDE away from broadcast sources of warning not for those indoors. Always check your weather app, NOAA radio, other radio or weather report before assuming anything. And NEVER go to a window or outside to look. A cell phone is your friend. Post script: I 💕 🐱 🐱
That’s the fist thing I think of get the cat ! My house is underground and I keep the carrier close by stocked with food water and litter for just such a emergency. If needed
This warms my heart & soothes my soul. I’m relieved that they reunited with furry family member Pikachu. The destruction & deaths caused by these storms is heartbreaking. As severe & awful as the property damage is, it can be replaced. Family, furry or otherwise are irreplaceable. During an emergency I’m making sure that I have my furry family with me above all else. Cats & dogs are gifts to humanity. No house or apartment is truly a home unless it has furry pals inside of it. Anyway, thoughts & prayers to all those affected & condolences to the families who lost loved ones. This is a good reminder that you should be prepared. Make sure you have a bug out bag ready & have carrier on hand for your cats & dogs along with supplies for all so you can bug out in a flash. Things have already been chaotic & challenging so I can’t imagine the distress the affected people are feeling. Stories like this though give us comfort & hope during terrible times. No matter how bad it gets, the most important thing is that furry family & family are safe. Best of luck to everyone & hope that you ca. rebuild things as fast as possible. I’m sure Pikachu is over the moon as much as the family about being safe & reunited🐈.🙂👍
I don't currently have a cat, but if I did I'd never leave it behind in a weather emergency. I could not live with myself if something bad happened to it.
Barnsdall does not allow pets in their shelters and made it very clear on the community page that morning. She has 2 small children and the closet they would have had to take “shelter” in was thrown several feet off of the concrete foundation and completely collapsed underneath the house. It would have been the death of all of them especially considering the house still had damage from the direct hit of the EF-1 that ran through their home just 5 weeks before this one.

So glad Pikachu is back with her family! There is nothing like finding a lost pet that is dearly loved! 😻
Thank God you got her back.❤
Pikachu is a gorgeous meezer (Siamese)! Glad she's okay!
This absolutely infuriates me that they left their pets behind.
The way to solve that problem is to have a shelter of your own. That way the few minutes warning you have is sufficient time and you don't have to use any of it traveling to the community shelter.
@@HM2SGT you're a bad person.
@@DelicatelyDestroyed 🙄 I'm a pragmatist & realist with direct experience. What's your excuse?
Why would collecting medicines and "immediate necessities" take precedence over living, loyal, loving family members (which is what our pets ARE)?
That's why most people lined up with nothing but the clothes they wore when they fled, and why most pets get left behind.
what a beautiful cat
That's awesome!! ❤
I'm glad they found their cat, and the dog is safe. It will be a while until they can get into normal life. I hope everyone else was safe.
So Happy for you and your beautiful kitty😺❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm glad she was found. I could have never left my two girls (cats) behind. They would have came with me!
Unfortunately they were not allowed a whole controversial post was made the morning before on the community page and no animals were allowed due to allergies, and there are certain things the city can’t have on their hands such as biting, scratching etc… people were mad but it was not allowed.
That is WONDERFUL ❤❤❤
Really glad you found your cat.
Wow, she is a stunning Siamese 😍
So happy you found her.♥
I have read that some tornado sirens overheat and burn out if they run continuously.
Post script: I 💕 🐱 🐱
Wonderful ❤
That’s the fist thing I think of get the cat ! My house is underground and I keep the carrier close by stocked with food water and litter for just such a emergency. If needed
It's cruel to not let pets in some shelters, especially after all the family has been through!
ピカチュウ無事に助かって良かったです
Oklahoma, or any Midwest state, is not worth losing my pets, my home, and everything I own!!
I am in Alief, Houston, texas, and I cried, when I saw Picachou pop up!
Thats a ADORABLE Cat
I’m so happy you found you!!!! ❤❤❤
Happy that she found her cat 💕
So glad 🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
If you love your pets they are family you protect them as you would your kids there is no excuse for leaving your pets behind!
My heart always goes out to the animals in thunderstorms and the like. I do ask though, you left but left the cat?
They weren’t allowed, would you have stayed home with them and risked your 8 and 12 year olds lives just because animals aren’t allowed?
They left them behind? I could never.

Always have your pet Chipped and update address. so if found by pound/kennel they can be returned.
I wouldn’t leave my pets behind. At least this beautiful cat was safe.
