The only other pokemon with two is Mewtwo and its the quintessential legendary pokemon with two in its name. And well whatever, its cool. But then two generations later, a whole new pokemon game with new pokemon and mechanics and whose the Ace pokemon of the champion? Charizard... Are you serious? The criticism of ORAS really showed in BDSPs development. I think in retrospect we were spoiled with new Megas, new battle teams, new story beats, and character design updates that we secretly had these expectations for BDSP. As someone who played a lot of Sapphire as a kid, I liked how fresh the remakes were with these ideas and tying it to XY. It respected the source and did something cool with it. They held back and put their money & time on PLA. If there was anything that needed the makeover, it was Diamond and Pearl considering 3rd games get the shaft because money. This generation is the most divisive for me. One the one hand, almost all the new pokémon look great and are good in battle, the designs of everything is unique and beautiful, and the easiness to enter competitive is great for younger fans. Plus, Legends Arceus was the unexpected remakes the franchise needed to bring some soul back to it.
However, the problems are way to noticeable. With SS, the story doesn’t exist, the lack of voice acting and any real postgame was too much, and the sheer lack of real dungeons and adventuring were so strong that, to this day, I haven’t replayed the game ever since I did 3 runs so to use each starter.
With the sinnoh remakes, we all know the problems with BDSP. But for Legends Arceus, I only had some nitpicks but no real bad thing to say of it. Other than the exp system.

As a shiny hunter, The Crown Tundra, BDSP and Legends: Arceus combined raise the overall score of Gen 8 by a lot.
The base Sword and Shield game is awful for shiny hunting, as the 500 encounter method is severely flawed, but the Dynamax Adventures system introduced in the Crown Tundra expansion makes it worthwhile to spend time shiny hunting in the game. The improved Poke Radar in BDSP is IMO the fastest shiny hunting method in any Pokemon game, as you can keep the chain going and catch multiple shinies of the same species. And Legends: Arceus' Mass Outbreak and Massive Mass Outbreak mechanics are great for catching shinies, but also the Permutation Method and simply randomly encountering shinies makes it very worthwhile to spend time shiny hunting in the game.

I have to hard disagree here. Those "flashy additives" did make the games better. And BD/SP's poor reception is proof. They kept gimmicks out of the game and what we got was an overly faithful bore of a game. OR/AS did as well as it did because it gave us mega evolution which improved every aspect of the gameplay. If the situations were reversed, I guarantee you that OR/AS would be the game everyone complains about. It's just so baffling that they didn't bring it back for BDSP not only because so many prominent trainers would be viable mega candidates, but also because the game's theme is evolution and mega evolution would be the next natural step in that research. Ever since Gen. 6, I started to get bored of the franchise because of there low quality ( Though I wanted to play the Gen. 3 remake to see if I like it more than the originals ) and while Gen. 7 does start off rough, but decent in Sun & Moon, I started getting depressed with USUM when they decided to recon the original version by making an " enhanced " version rather than an sequel or DLC and there wasn't anything that it enhanced on. It seems worst; aside adding more Pokemons and having postgame that isn't really that great. I wanted an Pokemon game that's put in effort, having good quality and most importantly, having fun. For me personally, barring EXP Share and P;atinum content I find Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl to be the dream Pokemon games that I'd longed for as a child, and hoped the future would be like: formulaic, charming, simple, predictable, yet beautiful in that, with 3D battles, full 360 degree movement, etc.
That said, I'm not totally without hope at this moment: hopefully Scarlet and Violet can bridge the divide between tradition and innovation in a creative way that doesn't divide the fanbase between the dwindling fans of the older style and the growing fans of the new era.

Seems like one of the point of the franchise is that theyre pocket sized compared to the giant skyscraper kaijus in most media. Being in a dynamax battle just seemed kinda silly with the amount of power it allows you. The lore implies the darkest day was this catastrophic event involving dynamax that almost destroyed the region but lets give access to anyone who wants to be a trainer. Gen 8, despite all the controversy, was an amazing experience for me. I've spent hours in SwSh exploring the Wild Area, which along with the cities and routes in Galar were an immersive and memorable experience. BDSP might have missed a LOT of expectations but at least I had a good nostalgia trip for the 2 months before LA came out (and I can pretend the Azure Flute, Oak's Letter, and Member Card events were finally distributed for DP). And speaking of which, LA was the perfect finale. It might not be perfect, but it was definitely the most fun I've had playing a Pokémon game in recent years. The gameplay, the region, the characters, the not-so-subtle references to the previous titles, the music are absolutely amazing. Not to mention how much personality each individual Pokémon species have! I can tell the people at Game Freak poured their hearts into this game and I appreciate every last bit of it.

As for my experience, SwSh was fun, and while I love the overall art-style, the designs of the cities and the music of the game, the story and the region felt too shallow compared to Gen 5 or 7, but it was otherwise enjoyable. The horrible draw distance and some minor graphical issues were a shame, but no deal breakers for me. The DLC was extremely fun and refreshing, especially the Crown Tundra.
BDSP was just a lazy remaster of DP, and the only thing I liked about it was the difficulty in the League, it was an insane nuzlocke experience, and it was breathtaking, but otherwise cannot dethrone Platinum as the best Sinnoh experience.
Legends Arceus was insanely fun, I had so many times in my first playthrough with my mouth wide open, going "oooooh this is DOPE!!", and of course Volo bits were incredibly enjoyable, but it's the least replayable game out of the three imo, since you gotta get through so many tutorials, cutscenes and research to keep progressing in the story, but I can forgive that, since the immense amount of enjoyment it gave me the first time around can't be matched by SwSh and BDSP. This game frickin ROCKS :)

Sword and Shield were fine, but they did feel incomplete without the DLC. The way Dynamax was integrated in to the story was magnificent; it was a far cry from how Megas were handled in X&Y. I also love how they integrated the game specific mechanics in to the story by having the climactic battle against Eternatus be a Max Raid battle.
BDSP I only got because I lost my diamond cart years ago. I still think they could have just made a switch port of platinum and that would have been enough; it didn't change enough to really justify the remake.

    @michaelnelson1127 Рік тому +18

My feelings toward this generation is overall positive. Sure, SwSh’s story isn’t too good, but there’s a reason why Sword is my most played game on the system. I’ve spent so much time with competitive breeding, max raids, and to a lesser extent shiny hunting, and I don’t regret it. For Legends Arceus [Arkoos], it was a nice fresh experience, and it’s pretty fun. Admittedly I haven’t completed the Dex yet, but I’m almost there.
As for BDSP, I’m currently working through it after dropping it at the end of the year, and I’m grinding for the elite 4. I don’t really care about the artstyle or graphics (similar for the other games), but I have run into some problems along the way. The underground somewhat makes up for the DP dex limit, but keeping evolution items until late game (or even post-game) is pretty frustrating (for me it was the shiny and dusk stones). The extended 360 movement doesn’t fit too well with the grid-based layout and can lead to some frustrations with narrow corners. And while I haven’t faced the elite 4 yet, I have heard about the huge spike, which is why I’m grinding my team to level 70. But despite the flaws, I can still find some fun. Id say the Grand Underground is the best part of the game, not only due to the hideaways expanding the dex, but also because of the wide range of items you can dig up; I have about 20 heart scales in my bag, and I’ve already used a few previously.
So overall, I’ve had a positive experience with Gen 8, but I’m still hoping the next one will be even better. Sorry this comment was so long, but if you made it to the end, have a great day.

With how many tools you’re given to help you raise your team in Sword and Shield, some pushback should have been included at least as an option you could turn off or on. Level scaling so you can’t sweep opponents through overlevelling, or simply being able to turn off the EXP Share (a function that’s been in previous games so it’s not a great deal of effort to code in).

With SWSH, I do agree with how variable the Pokemon you can get early on is good and the amount of new Pokémon and regional forms feel well distributed. I agree with how bland the region is; yes it’s based on the entire United Kingdom but I felt like it could have been like Hoenn due to the mini dungeons and having to backtrack to places (like going back to Petalburg).
EDIT: The battle timer bothers me due to the things you said, that even Shofu and Pokeaim made responses to get rid of that. And the Battle Recorder being gone despite VGC being a thing, the heck?
I haven’t played Legends and BDSP but for BDSP, it having the same levels and Pokemon that the trainers have (thanks to the regional dex), not borrowing an element from Platinum aside from the Rotom forms and clothes, the permanent EXP share, coupled with the friendship mechanic that lets your Pokémon survive hits makes it feel imbalanced. DP is half baked and the remakes not really trying to rectify that, unless you count the Grand Underground, makes you confused when looking at previous remakes.

Personal opinion incoming: Many fans of video games have been spoiled by the games that go for as realistically looking as possible. Now, many want all games to look that realistic. Give ten years, and the realistic games will not look good anymore. The games that will look good are the ones that were stylized. Pokémon is a stylized game. It’s art style will look better in the long run. I just do not like when people say that Pokémon looks bad when it is stylized to look timeless. (And I don’t want anyone saying that there is a game from ten years ago that still looks amazing because that is the exception not the rule.) This is just my opinion.

maybe it's because i only got into playing pokemon at the start of this year, but legends arceus is by far my least favourite one (i've played lets go, sword, heartgold and violet so far) i actually hated how different it was but i can see how more long-term fans found it refreshing. i found some of the controls fiddly, and the open world wasn't that interesting to navigate and i kept ending up in dead ends of endless identical hills lmaoo. the boss battles were an unwelcome surprise to me, and i felt like i could never fully spend time exploring since i was too busy trying not to get attacked by pokemon every 2 seconds lol. i ended up exchanging the game for violet which instantly became my favourite pokemon game. maybe i'll try arceus in the future since i'm really curious to learn more about arceus' lore and the other legendaries
