  • The Teradek TOF.1 is pretty straightforward but a bit different to other rangefinders, so hope this helps.

Great video, I just subscribed. There are very few UA-cam videos of this rangefinder in action even from Teredek. It would be great to see some examples of how this works in real life scenarios

I'll add it to the list 🙏🏻 Got a TOF.1 vs CineRT comparison video planned, so will be sure to demonstrate the TOF.1's performance

how do you feel about buying a tof.1 these days instead of just renting the cinert? I'm on the fence whether it's even worth it now. My main worry is the small beam tbh

In my mind, the TOF.1 is great because of the cheap price and it does a good job of basic rangefinding. If that's all you can afford, or all you need based on your types of jobs/skill level then it's worth it 🙏🏻
Where I'm from we didn't have any rangefinders in the state so I was just thrilled to have anything!
Renting/buying a CineRT is obviously a giant upgrade because it's got so many functions and settings to suit whatever you need such as the tape measure mode, bugs on actors, can penetrate glass/fog and adjust the sensitivity. All things the TOF.1 can't do (can only adjust the offset, turn on autofocus and adjust how quickly it responds...). Basic AF.
However the CineRT is damn expensive (because it's so good)!! But it's another piece of equipment to argue with Production to get hired, or another cost to reduce your overall income. Long form shoots almost always know to budget for one, but TVCs I've heard mixed experiences - with some friends buying it purely to help do a better service/help build reputation but not get a cent towards how much they spent.
For Me the TOF.1 has been a blessing and worked so great for Me. The jobs I get usually require a certain level of 'wing it' and so precise measurements aren't so much a priority as knowing the speed of pace of a subject.
I've still done a good service but also have avoided not having to worry about hiring/buying the CineRT. So I'm very happy with my choice.
If you can afford the CineRT and can see it making a big difference for You, get it!!! It's incredible!! 🥳 But if you just need basic rangefinding and/or don't want to break the bank then get the TOF.1🙏🏻
