  • Introducing the all-new SRAM Eagle Powertrain, Steve Jones gives a rundown on the specs and features that are on this new system. SRAM's new Powertrain integrates with their latest Eagle AXS Transmission ecosystem to deliver features such as Auto Shift and Coast Shift, along with additional new technologies such as their unique battery system. 2 power modes (Range or Rally) help keep things simple, while delivering all the power you'd expect from an EMTB like this.

    First, all my gear is by SRAM except their brakes. But I do surely think that Pinion will have the complete system to beat! Enclosed Gears that always stay clean.....Less weight on the back wheel with everything in the Motor casing. Sure seems like the future to me....I love my current wireless setup but Pinion with enclosed gears & Motor seems to be the way to go.

      I totally agree about gearboxes being the future for emtbs and ebikes in gerneral. Derailleur systems with there lower friction make sense for cycles that rely on human power, but not for those that power assisted for the points you raise above, and many more.

    I don’t want all that auto shift & wireless stuff. Just more stuff to go wrong in my opinion. Plus I enjoy using well setup cable shift gears. • @jmo2752
      @jmo2752 9 місяців тому +3

      @@islandaerial3414 you've got some big jumps on a 9 or 10 speed cassette if you want a 500% range - negated by the motor assistance to a degree, but it still makes the changes more clunky and you'd notice the cadence change more too.
      I agree a 10 speed transmission is likely to be a bit more robust/last longer than a 12 speed designed for non-assisted bikes, but a lot of that can be negated by changing gears sympathetically and not mashing the pedals everywhere...
      Ultimately though - as other people have suggested - dragging a chain across a concentric set of cogs is a pretty rudimentary way of changing gears on a bicycle - a 10 speed gearbox style transmission is likely to become the standard for eMTBs over the next few years I suspect.

    So auto shift and coast shift, not too dissimilar to Shimano auto shift and coast shift, but like both, unless you run the complete system you don't get the benefit of the shifting options, and then there's the Brose motor, there's still the conundrum of do you purchase your preferred ststem or, do you buy.your preferred bike brand, personally for me it's bike brand first.

    Only one question... when can I retrofit my Levo with this?

    • @jmo2752
      @jmo2752 9 місяців тому +3

      Probably not retrofit (unless they design a different TCU), but I can see this being adopted by Specialized on some of their higher end models in the future - they already spec the T-type AXS transmission on a number of 2024 model year bikes.

    • @RyonBeachner
      @RyonBeachner 9 місяців тому +1

      @@jmo2752 I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if this is the same motor that is used in the Levo, but a new TCU. Also, it appears that SRAM has run a wire from the main battery to the RD so that both are charged/running on one common battery, which I think makes a lot of sense for eBike application, and is likely why SRAM is introducing these new batteries.
      Given how closely Specialized, Brose and SRAM are, I’d be surprised if this wasn’t on their new bikes in the coming model year. I also wouldn’t be surprised if this is somewhat of a handoff of the relationship from Specialized/Brose to SRAM/Brose as I know specialized has eaten a whole lot of warranty repairs outside the warranty period, and using a “SRAM Powertrain” offloads all that liability to SRAM if Brose wasn’t already forced to eat the expenses of warranty repairs as a part of their agreement with Specialized.

  • @thewrx2600
    @thewrx2600 9 місяців тому +1

    about damn time, but the only thing I don't like is the assumption that we only need SRAM's 2 calibration profiles, one of the nice things about brose, and specialized, is the ability to moderately tweak the calibration "tune" of the power unit to suit the riders needs.
    One other concern I have is just the dominance that SRAM has over the industry, which in one part is good because you can have everything interoperate with each other, but like all monopoly's (unless they have good opensource community support) it makes the consumer not able to have options for 3rd party products if they chose to.
    One last comment; the AXS controllers aren't horrible but, would like to see a more robust and clean handlebar controller that doesn't look like a ball sac hanging off my bars, like you see on the receiver hitch on trucks. Once again its about options, so if brose/sram offer options to use 3rd party designs for controllers, then everyone will benefit.

    its a brose 2.2+ with all the unreliability associated with it. auto shift takes away freedom. it will be prohibitively expensive and only the well heeled pretty boys will be buying. a case of 'just because we can". gearbox motor combo is where real progress will happen

      you can turn autoshift off and regain your 'freedom'

    Meh, we want smaller powerful motors. Auto shift is a "nice to have".

    Outdated already by pinion, give us what we want sram

      the problem is a pinion style integration means less money. Sram bothered to do all of this to get more money. It would not make any sense for them to go into a direction that brings them less money. They are in this business to make money.. big money, not to make best components for mtb-ing or mtb-ers.

      @@eugenux yep they will wait for till they have no choice or buy piñon and kill it off.

    pointless, Pignon gearbox should be placed in all EMTB.

    Shimano was first. With auto shift and coast shift. Sram is just plagiating.

    looks big, bulky and ugly. looks like the cheap chinese copy of the unit you can find on Specialized bikes. It makes Bosch, Fazua and TQ look like premium stuff... like Mercedes, Audi and BMW compared with cheap chinese Renault copies. Better to avoid it...especially if it has the same belt problems as the unit on Levos.
    edit. it also made the megawatt look so much uglier than before

    does the main battery power the shifter and shift pods too?
