Would be nice to bring the culture of Apero from France to the UK, savoring the drink with a little snack. Thanks for the great content about French culture.

I like these bitesized little segments too. PSBs would try to spread this over a dull as ditchwater 45 minute documentary, but this is ideal in terms of length and content.

The show is very well structured, very pertinent and show different side of the subject. Well done.

When I go to France with my mom, I'll be about 3 weeks away from turning 18 and I hope the champagne bar at the top of the eiffel tower will allow me to have a flute of champagne with my mom.

As long as your mom buys it, there should be no problem.

I like to imagine myself as an average frenchman when I drink a whole bottle of wine during dinner.

Those who enjoy Cognac should try Calvados and Armagnac. Both are delicious!

In America we have an "Apero" too. Drink a case of Bud Light before your McDonald's large Big Mac meal and a half gallon of Jack Daniel's after as a nice digestive to let the stomach settle :)

You drink more like Icelanders nowadays, not regularly anymore or in moderation, but in binges.

I come from a culture where binge drinking is the norm as opposed to the consumption of alcohol with food. So we have a lot of macho men who die from heart attacks during and after a drinking session, brutes that end up turning yellow due to liver cirrhosis, even homosexuals that start an orgy with hard drinks--we now have far more cases of HIV infection in the young.
Basically, men who would drink two lifetime's worth of alcohol in only a decade. And I have tried to influence people I know to consume alcohol with finesse and with a meal, but old habits die hard, and the people with these habits die young.

I hope that they stop. I was raised in a heavier drinking culture, and there is nothing positive about it. It harms your family. It is bad for your teeth and memory. It makes it harder for your children to learn and concentrate in school. It causes cancer and early death.

The past couple of years I've been listening to a lot of Maigret talking books and plays - the alcohol (and tobacco) abuse is quite distracting !

France doesn't have an alcoholism problem like most countries like Britain, Ireland, or Russia. Why? Because they know how to handle it responsibly like the Italians and Portuguese.

Alcohol related deaths in the U.S. is over 100,000 per year. As an emergency room nurse and triage officer, I'd say no less than 2/3 of all trauma seen in the emergency room is alcohol related. I use to enjoy my wine, especially with supper but, have cut back as it is fattening and can lead to type-2 diabetes and heart disease.
