    Even more realistic would be to let the car plan the charging stops. Then you would also test quality of the built-in charging planning.

      The most realistic test is to stop when you're hungry which I was at Spekerød.

      @@bjornnylandwell you planned to stop there already in your garage it was not a spontaneous stop 😉 still think that relying on the charging planner would be a test worthy item and also realistic as non-nerd drivers might just get in the car, enter the target destination and rely on the car to plan the stops.

    I like the idea of a 'chill' test. I'm wondering if just relying on the trip planner would be better, or maybe charging to 70% or 80% (rather than the ninja calculations an unplugging as soon as the charge rate goes down like you normally do) so it is more reproducible.

    • @MarkusAJ

      Might be a problem with newer cars as the planners have less data on the cars.

      @@MarkusAJ should be the built-in planner, your average person should be able to get in a new EV and have the car figure out the route and charging stops for them and get a good experience without having to install any apps or do any TeslaBjorn ninja calculations.

    Thanks for the video Bjorn. I don't know how you were able to tolerate driving so slow for so long man. I know it was the challenge, but it has to be especially tough when you know you could get to a destination so much faster. I likely couldn't have done it and I'm not a lead foot. According to me anyway, my wife might say different. lol. All the best to you and yours.

  • @AndrewClelland

    Throwing the trash out... that was epic :D :P Seriously though, when it comes to 'normal' long distance drives across Europe, usually we drive until the other is getting tired - approx 200-250km, and then stop to swap with a 20min leg stretch, snack, pee, and then a stop of approx 1hr for lunch and/or dinner at some point. I think this makes more sense rather than pushing the distance to the end of a battery.

    I drove 1000 km from central to south europe. Took me 11:20 due to Traffic and construction sites. Also vat was added to the limit when possible.
    If we want to make a break we charge 30-35 min. Otherwise 15-20 because it is slower and boring.

  • @e94mli
    @e94mli 2 місяці тому +2

    If the 1000km challenge was supposed to be realistic then it should be from point A to point B instead of a fixed length that includes detours for charging. Once upon a time it was probably not possible since there was a shortage of chargers for most cars, but now it should be doable. In any case, a chill drive was fun!

    Happy that you did what I was asking for. Don’t forget you were able to chill for almost 2 hours. That is realistic. Maybe 3 stops would have improve a bit the time. And it is needed, especially when you have a family trip. The ultimate challenge would be to drive as fast as usual, with proper stops. Not sure you will be interested to do it again, but it could be interesting to do it again, with a Korean car, an American one, a french one, and maybe a big chinese car, like a BYD! Was fun!

    Not impressed with the DJI in the latest videos.

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  2 місяці тому +2

      Not yet. But I found out that even though both Røde and DJI are omnidirectional mics, the polar pattern on DJI is narrower than Røde which causes the sound to be muffled if placed in that position. It seems like DJI sounds better if mic is placed straight towards my head rather than at a 90° angle.

    • @TheSweMusicMan
      @TheSweMusicMan 2 місяці тому +1

      @bjornnyland Yes, the RØDE is quite forgiving when it comes to positioning. Apparently not the DJI.

    I remember a Dutch car magazine doing a test going from Frederikshavn to Amsterdam in fossil cars, I don't remember which one. Distance was 1000 km. One car drove fast, the other slow. The difference in travel time was only 20 minutes arriving in Amsterdam. And it included unlimited German autobahn. This is in stark contrast to what Björn now finds. I am confused.

    That was an interesting test. I think your usual tests give irrelevant results because you are constantly adjusting for every little thing.
    I think this test shows that there is an optimal way of driving and charging. It's fair to say that it's safer to drive at traffic speed rather than going slower because of the speed limit, and it's also best practice to plan your journey and only charge what you need and not to 100%.
    So I think there needs to be another test that is actual real world.
