Production values are great man. If you’re doing a tour of the manufacturers in the golden area, I’d be interested in what you think of Spot bikes. The living link thing looks interesting. Considering a bike to compliment my ripmo. Something more fun on family rides and the easier single track in western Colorado.
I've been riding the Arktos 140 since the beginning of summer. Your take on the bike is totally on point. It's an absolute blast to ride. It inspires confidence in the chunk and tech and seems to find traction on the harder climbs. I agree it certainly isn't the lightest, but it really doesn't seem to slow you down. It does jump well and seems comfortable to hop and pop around. I see you changed a lot of parts (brakes, wheels, grips, handlebars, seat) What are you impressions on the TRP brakes vs the Srams it came with? So far, I am not a fan of the Sram brakes. Although, going to a 200mm front rotor has helped a bunch. Keep up the honest content!
Paul, thanks so much for this thoughtful reply. You know, the cockpit parts and especially brakes are just preference on all bikes for me at this point. I really love the modulation, power and heat management of the TRP DH-R evos. They make everything from an XC to a full DH bike perform more predictably. I'm a 193lb rider so the thicker 2.3mm rotors really handle heat well and I don't get brake fade like I have with SRAM brakes. Def worth a shot if you're curious or want to upgrade.
Interesting bike. Thanks for showing. How would you compare this bike with the commencal tempo trail bike? You are in XL size so is 150mm rear suspension better than 125 mm?
Howdy. Two entirely different beasts. For example, I wouldn't personally bring the T.E.M.P.O. to Squamish or Moab for the style of riding I do in those places. It's a good bike for many of my local trails however. The Arktos thrives in a wider variety of terrain albeit a bigger and far less nimble option than the T.E.M.P.O. I would sooner compare the Arktos 150 to a larger all mountain bike like a Hightower or Stumpjumper Evo.
Thanks. Are you on the XL? If so, how tall are you? Also, would you go with the 140 or the 150 for CO non bike park riding (blue and blue/black alpine trails)? Thanks.
I'm considering one of these, I'm 6'1ish and considering the Large, but don't want to feel cramped. How tall are you/inseam? I'm a lot of torso with only a 33 inch inseam.
Great review! I have the 150 and it’s a fantastic bike. Climbs and pedals way better than it should and handles very well on the descents.
Just snatched one up on sale can’t wait to give it a go
I love this type of adventure!!

I actually hadn’t considered it but that’s a great idea lol. I will reach out to them soon. Thanks for the note!
I just ordered my first one and super stoked about it! Just curious why you changed out the wheels, and what you put on it?
I busted up the stock wheels pretty good but I ride like an idiot. Ended up going with dt ex511 rims for their reputation of strength.

@@MTBJonnie The TRPs are on my short list for sure. I am a little heavier rider for my size as well. Stopping is a must. Plus, that gold.....FIRE!
Lol yeah they're pretty easy on the eyes.@@paulthompson6357

That spec for $5500 is RIDICULOUS.
Seriously. Easily one of the best values out there.

I’m on the XL. l felt too small for sure. Honestly I’d probably do a 140 if I did it again.

I’m a lot of leg and a short torso but also 6’1 on the money. The large felt really small for me and I loved the XL. Personally I’d size up.
The frame and linkage looks like a carbon-copy of the SB150....
They share some stuff as they both license suspension from the same guy, Dave Earle. What I can tell you is they ride very differently.
